Power restored after more than 50,000 people reported an outage north of Denver
DENVER (KDVR) — Tens of thousands of people living north of Denver were without power on Friday.
It was a dreary and soggy Friday, with rain and snow impacting roadways. Residents north of Denver were also reporting a large power outage that impacted tens of thousands of people.
According to Xcel Energy's electric outage map, just before 11 a.m., nearly 30,000 people were impacted by 34 reported outages. These outages were in Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton and north of Northglenn.
Just before 11:30 a.m., Xcel said only four customers were impacted and a majority of power had been restored.
At its peak at 10:20 a.m., over 57,000 customers were impacted by 71 outages reported.
The city of Northglenn said the city hall and the recreation center were closed due to the outage. Northglenn police are stationed at major intersections to help direct traffic.
If you are at an intersection where the lights are out, treat it as a four-way stop.

Northglenn police said the outage is due to the weather.

Spring snow is often wet and heavy, and it can have an impact on trees and electrical wires.
Aside from power, the storm caused a lengthy closure on Interstate 70 Friday morning, leaving mountain travelers stranded for a few hours. Thankfully, the interstate has since reopened.
The snow is expected to taper off by Friday night into Saturday morning.

Pinpoint Weather Alert Day Friday for thunderstorms
DENVER (KDVR) — Pinpoint Weather Alert Day on Friday for thunderstorms, before quieter and warmer conditions return for the Denver weather forecast this weekend. Although a few isolated storms will be possible, particularly on Sunday. Overall, dry conditions are forecast for the region. Pop-up storms, rising temps in Charlotte ahead of severe weather Saturday
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — We've made it to the end of the work week, and our treat will be a foggy start and stormy finish, but there will be some sunshine mixed in here and there. Temperatures are sitting in the 60s and 70s this Friday morning with light and variable winds kicking off the day. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds Friday afternoon with upper 80s on tap ahead of pop-up afternoon storms. These storms will have the potential to pack a punch in the form of damaging winds, with a marginal risk for severe weather in place for the Queen City and surrounding areas. Highs will fall just shy of 89 degrees before overnight lows dip into the low 70s heading into Saturday. We'll host another storm chance for the start of the weekend with the added threat of large hail with the potential for damaging winds. Saturday will be a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day with a slight risk for severe weather taking over the Carolinas. Storms will likely focus on the peak heating hours of the day and taper off late in the on Saturday can reach 90 degrees as we continue to bring on the heat this weekend.
