Power restored after more than 50,000 people reported an outage north of Denver
DENVER (KDVR) — Tens of thousands of people living north of Denver were without power on Friday. It was a dreary and soggy Friday, with rain and snow impacting roadways. Residents north of Denver were also reporting a large power outage that impacted tens of thousands of people. According to Xcel Energy's electric outage map, just before 11 a.m., nearly 30,000 people were impacted by 34 reported outages. These outages were in Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton and north of Northglenn. Just before 11:30 a.m., Xcel said only four customers were impacted and a majority of power had been restored. At its peak at 10:20 a.m., over 57,000 customers were impacted by 71 outages reported. The city of Northglenn said the city hall and the recreation center were closed due to the outage. Northglenn police are stationed at major intersections to help direct traffic. If you are at an intersection where the lights are out, treat it as a four-way stop. Will it still be rainy, snowy on Easter Sunday?
DENVER (KDVR) — After a snowy and wet start to the holiday weekend, the sun will return just in time to celebrate Easter Sunday. Whether you are headed to Red Rocks for the annual sunrise service, church or to an egg hunt, you will want to pack warm clothes for the start of the day. Friday and Saturday are both Pinpoint Weather Alert Days due to a storm system that is bringing rain and snow to the Front Range. Temperatures will drop to the mid-30s; however, snow accumulation will be minimal in Denver. Due to continuous melting, snow may only stick to grassy areas and some roadways. Denver weather: Cold and snowy Friday, Pinpoint Weather Alert Day This is good news for those looking to meet the Easter bunny or hunt for eggs on Sunday. The Colorado Council of Churches is hosting its annual Red Rocks Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m., and it will be chilly. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said overnight lows will be in the low-to-middle 20s, so those heading to Morrison at around 4:30 a.m. when doors open will need to bundle up with coats, hats and gloves. While temperatures will be brisk, Michels said there will only be a few clouds in the sky, meaning the sunrise should be great for worshippers. As the day develops, Sunday will have partly to mainly sunny skies. By noon, temperatures will rise to the upper 50s, and the afternoon will be seasonal once again, in the low 60s. If you are doing an Easter egg hunt with the family, watch out for some wet areas. The Pinpoint Weather team expects most of the snow from Friday and Saturday to melt by Easter; however, if your egg hunt is in the shade and faces north, the grass could still be wet. Temperatures will continue to warm up on Monday, with highs back in the 70s. Over 600 flights delayed at DIA due to winter weather in mid-April
DENVER (KDVR) — Winter weather is back in Colorado after a dry and warm start to spring. Friday and Saturday are Pinpoint Weather Alert Days, as a storm system brings rain and snow to the Front Range and the high country. Winter weather advisories will be in effect through Saturday morning. Heavy snow is falling in the high country, where some areas could see up to a foot of accumulation. Major roadways, like Interstate 70 and U.S. 6, are closed for those wishing to travel west. While Denver will only have minimal accumulation on grassy surfaces and some roadways, this spring storm is causing problems at the Denver International Airport. As of 9:20 a.m. on Friday, FlightAware, a flight tracking website, said DIA has reported a total of 624 delays with 11 cancellations. SkyWest has reported 100 delays, United Airlines has 94, Delta Airlines has 21 and American Airlines has 13 delays. The 11 cancellations all come from Southwest. If you have a flight scheduled for Friday, be sure to check with your airline on possible changes due to the weather. The storm is just getting started in Denver. The wet weather is expected to last through Saturday morning, with snow tapering off later on Friday night. Several Colorado road closures in place as snow coats high country in mid-April
DENVER (KDVR) — After a warm and dry stretch, Mother Nature is reminding Colorado that winter weather can still happen in April. Friday and Saturday are Pinpoint Weather Alert Days due to rain and snow showers that will impact the Front Range and high country. Winter weather advisories will be in effect through Saturday morning. According to the Pinpoint Weather team, heavy snow will coat the high country, dropping up to a foot of accumulation in some areas. This is great news for the lingering ski areas that remain open this spring. Denver weather: Cold and snowy Friday, Pinpoint Weather Alert Day However, the winter weather is creating adverse driving conditions in the mountains. Here is what you need to know. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, U.S. 6 – Loveland Pass is closed in both directions due to what the department called 'adverse conditions. At 8:30 a.m., CDOT said the left lane of westbound I-70 is closed, previously, both lanes were closed to traffic due to the same adverse conditions. Eastbound has been reopened to traffic from Silverthrone to Denver. CDOT said these areas should expect heavy snow showers on Friday. On I-70, the department said to expect up to 3 inches of new accumulation. On Loveland Pass, up to 2.5 inches of new accumulation is expected. Detours around I-70 and Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel Wind will also be a problem for drivers. Gusts up to 17 mph are expected and could create blizzard-like conditions. The Colorado State Patrol posted on X and said the estimated reopening is 30 minutes to one hour. For detours around the closures, check out this story. However, the best plan may be to stay home and avoid the snow. CDOT said westbound I-70 is closed between C-470 and U.S. 6 due to 'safety concerns.' The department said the closure is due to ice and spun-out vehicles. Cameras located along the interstate show snowpacked roads. CDOT said CO 9 – Hoosier Pass is now closed due to adverse conditions and spun out semitrucks that are blocking the highway. Snow showers will also push across the Front Range on Friday; however, accumulation may only be noticeable on grassy surfaces. Denver could still see some slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses, so take it slow. Denver weather: Sunny before rain, snow and wind
DENVER (KDVR) — Sunny skies will help warm temperatures on Thursday before a boundary slides in during the evening, bringing wind, rain and snow to the Denver weather forecast. Mainly sunny skies will be around for most of the day Thursday, helping highs top out in the lower 70s. Timing, totals, impact of mid-April rain and snowstorm in Denver Later this evening, a boundary will slide through, bringing breezy winds out of the north. Rain showers arrive around sunset with some snow in the higher elevations. Red flag warnings are in effect Thursday afternoon and evening for south of the metro area, with brisk winds and low relative humidity. Rain showers will switch over to snow around midnight as temperatures drop. Winds will slightly decrease, but remain brisk overnight. Low temperatures will end up just below freezing in the lower 30s. Snow showers are expected to last through most of Friday with a brisk wind and highs in the upper 30s. Some melting is expected along Interstate 25, but roads could still be slushy through the day, especially if you are headed into the mountains. With impacts across the Front Range and into the mountains, Friday through Saturday morning will be Pinpoint Weather Alert Days. Snow showers wrap up by noon on Saturday with slow clearing and highs in the middle 40s. Metro totals will be lower, as melting will happen on roads and sidewalks. Any accumulation will mostly be a coating on grassy surfaces and trees. The high country could see some good snow with some places nearing a foot or more. Easter Sunday will bring back more sunshine through the afternoon with seasonal highs in the lower 60s. Monday has above-average highs near the 70-degree mark with mainly sunny skies.
