The confidence level in that prediction is currently at 60%. Wilkes is one of the best players of the 2026 recruiting class. He is an in-state prospect from Wadley, Alabama. He is ranked 10th at his position nationally, and No. 88 overall. Also, Wilkes is rated No. 6 in Alabama. He was a key player for the Wadley Bulldogs to win the AHSAA 1A State Championship in 2024. They defeated Maplesville in convincing fashion 37-7. 247Sports' Cooper Petagna evaluated Wilkes as a player who should be able to translate to the next level due to his size, speed, and athleticism.

The Tigers currently only have six players committed to the 2026 class. Auburn also has a commitment from four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harrison from Jemison, Alabama. In 2026, the Tigers could be looking to replace edge rusher Keldric Faulk. Therefore, it will be a position of need for Auburn. Faulk is being projected as a first-round draft pick by many draft experts for the 2026 NFL Draft. With recent developments in recruiting, the Tigers need a big commitment to get back on track. Wilkes would do that for this program.

ESPN analyst Heather Dinich believes the Playoff Predictor is underrating Clemson in 2025
ESPN's Playoff Predictor has put Clemson in the thick of the national conversation once again, even if its title odds remain modest. The Tigers are given a 47.3% shot at making the 12-team College Football Playoff, according to the latest ESPN analytics model. That marks the first time Clemson is projected to have at least a 10% CFP chance in consecutive seasons since the program's dominant six-year stretch from 2015 to 2020. However, the model gives the Tigers just a 2.8% chance to win the national championship, which would be their first since 2018. Not everyone agrees with that outlook — especially ESPN's Heather Dinich. 'Clemson was overrated heading into the 2024 season. Now it's underrated,' Dinich wrote. 'The Tigers' offense is loaded, starting with much-improved quarterback Cade Klubnik and a deep receiver corps.' She pointed to the team's veteran offensive line and dominant defensive front as reasons why Clemson could return to national prominence and potentially win the ACC again. A 2–0 finish in non-conference games — with wins over LSU to open the season and rival South Carolina to close it — could give the Tigers a major edge in the eyes of the CFP selection committee, particularly in head-to-head comparisons with SEC teams. Still, Dinich acknowledged the ACC schedule may not help Clemson's case much. 'If Clemson doesn't go 2–0 against the SEC, this could be an issue,' she said, citing the lack of Miami on the regular season schedule. 'SMU and Louisville could be top-25 opponents — and maybe Syracuse or Georgia Tech sneak in. But Clemson can't afford another loss to Louisville, and they shouldn't drop one to SMU at home either.' Even with a potential loss in the ACC Championship Game, Dinich believes Clemson could still qualify for the playoff as an at-large — though a weak conference resume might be a sticking point. Clemson's projected path is slightly ahead of Miami's, with the Hurricanes coming in at 46.3% to make the CFP and 2.7% to win it all. SMU is next among ACC teams at 21.1%. South Carolina, meanwhile, is ranked 22nd in the Playoff Predictor at 20.3%. Texas leads the way nationally with an 83.9% chance to reach the CFP and a 24.1% title probability. Hugh Freeze discusses the 'flash' of Omar Mabson early in Auburn's fall camp
One freshman running back is turning heads at fall camp. One week into fall camp, and the Auburn running back room is just as much a mystery as it was at the beginning. Earlier this week, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze shared that running backs Jeremiah Cobb and Durell Robinson would be limited due to injury. However, on Saturday, Robinson returned to the practice field while Cobb remained out, and projected starter Damari Alston was held out due to a heel bruise. Limitations for Alston and Cobb left the door open for a true freshman to shine in front of his new coaches. Following Saturday's practice, Freeze shared that he was pleased with the efforts of his running backs that were able to practice, including one in particular. "Man, the other guys are showing up," Freeze said. "Durell (Robinson) had some explosive runs. Alvin (Henderson), there's still a little learning curve for him, for sure. But I tell you the one who is flashing is Omar (Mabson)." Mabson joined the roster a year earlier than anticipated after reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class and is quickly making strides with his new team. Freeze went on to say that Mabson is hard to tackle due to his 5-9, 213-pound frame and is great at finishing runs. Auburn's running back competition remains wide open with just over four weeks until the Tigers kick off the season at Baylor.
