His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presented a rare original historical manuscript to the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy, in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA).

The manuscript dates back to August 14 , 1624, and includes a papal decree written by Pope Urban VIII and sealed in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Additionally, His Highness gifted his book 'Papal Bull' in both Arabic and English at the university's premises.
In his speech, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Rector and members of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan for their warm welcome.
His Highness spoke about the manuscript he gifted to the university, which dates back to August 14 , 1624, highlighting that it is a papal decree written by Pope Urban VIII and sealed in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The purpose of the decree was to raise financial assistance for the Portuguese fleet.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah discussed the conflict between the Portuguese and the English in Hormuz, stating, 'In 1622, the Portuguese were expelled from Hormuz at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf from the Persian coast, where they had occupied it for one hundred and fifteen years, by English and Persian forces. The mission of the Portuguese leaders, along with the priests, was evangelization, whether in Hormuz, Persia, or India.'
His Highness added, 'After the English expelled the Portuguese from Hormuz in Persia, King Philip of Portugal sought to retake Hormuz. However, the Portuguese government lacked the financial resources to send a military campaign for its recovery. King Philip requested financial support from the clergy, which led Pope Urban VIII to issue a papal decree to collect the necessary funds from the churches.'
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah explained that he translated and studied this decree, tracking the funds collected through the churches, which amounted to two hundred thousand cruzados, a Portuguese gold currency at the time. The goal was to build a fleet and send it to India to retake Hormuz. His Highness noted that the fleet required a special type of large ship capable of crossing oceans, which would take considerable time, along with a sailing journey from Portugal to India that would last several months.
His Highness indicated that King Philip ordered the funds to be sent to India to build a local fleet there, due to the short distance between India and Hormuz. He explained that the details of this fleet and its armament are mentioned in the book 'Papal Bull ' that he authored, as well as the account of its journey to the battle site in Hormuz against the English and Dutch forces, culminating in the defeat of the Portuguese fleet.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a commemorative gift from the Rector of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, which was an original 3D map of the city of Milan dating back to 1657.

"I studied anthropology and then I went through AFI [the American Film Institute] in L.A. I started to do short films and got more and more interested in directing. I wrote and directed my first feature, [titled Stormy Summer]. It was a French drama set during the second World War, a love and betrayal story in the French residence. After I finished that, I got a prize for it and decided I didn't want to do anything else for the rest of my life." She also mentions how she's directed projects in three different languages — French, Swedish, and English. Berg has "so much respect" for Brändström for being able to "speak and direct in three languages, because you speak better English than I do," he jokes. Berg started out by directing plays in high school, but the "key moment" happened when he was acting on Chicago Hope. "The great David E. Kelley did that show back in the day, and we were doing 28 episodes a season ... I was becoming kind of TV-famous as a doctor, Billy Kronk, and people would come up to me and start talking to me like I was that character." When a stranger on an airplane showed him a "horrible, oozing rash" on her elbow, he realized his "legacy" was about to be cemented as a TV doctor. He recalls, "And that, more than anything else, motivated me to take my interest in directing to the next gear." His first movie was Very Bad Things (1998), which Kelley let him out to write and direct. "Meanwhile, Glenn and I have been spending three years on a spec," Requa laughs. "A friend of ours who's an actor is baiting us, will you please just finish the script?!" Ficarra can't get his "mind around" producing so many episodes and shows simultaneously in today's landscape, noting, "We wrote, produced, and directed [Rabbit Hole] on Paramount a couple years ago, and that is the hardest f--king job. It almost killed me. I can't imagine doing more than one show." After making Super 8 movies separately as kids, the duo "met in film school in the '80s," with Ficarra explaining, "I wanted to be a director, and John helped me become a writer." Requa chimes in, "I read Akira Kurosawa's autobiography, and on the back of the book there are 12 hints for young filmmakers, and one of them is 'read the great screenplays, master the craft of screenwriting.' I was like, 'Oh, really? I have to do that?' So, I put down my director pants and I put on my writer pants and I decided I'm gonna figure this out. It took me 20 years! And I still don't think we figured it out." Ficarra recalls, "I don't remember who said it to us. It was like, 'You guys get tired of directors f--king up your scripts. New literacy pack aims to boost reading skills for students across California
( — State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday the release of the California Literacy-Biliteracy Professional Learning Pack. California Department of Education stated that this would be a comprehensive suite of resources designed to improve literacy instruction and support educators across the state in improving student outcomes, especially for younger readers. The Literacy Roadmap highlights our multifaceted approach to improving literacy for California's students, including current and proposed initiatives,' Governor Newsom said. 'When added to our other investments in literacy coaches and reading specialists at high-needs schools and professional development for teachers, we are doubling down on our commitment to ensure no student falls behind in their reading.' The new Professional Learning Pack includes two crucial literacy guidance documents, CDE stated. The first is set to be the California Literacy Roadmap's Literacy Content Blocks for English-Medium Classrooms, which is focused on transitional Kindergarten through Grade Five. The roadmap provides instructional recommendations that educators can use to support students as they develop across all areas of literacy and bitliteracy, according to Newsom. The blocks will reflect an intentional approach to literacy that will promote sequenced initial instruction, appropriate practice and reinforcement, intervention as necessary, and meaningful application in English language arts. 'Literacy is foundational to lifelong learning and academic success,' said Superintendent Thurmond. 'With this release, California takes a significant step forward in providing educators with the tools they need to foster strong literacy and biliteracy development from the earliest years of learning as we move the needle on student achievement, particularly for our youngest readers.' The second document is Preschool through Third Grade Learning Progressions for Language and Literacy Development, which will outline key developmental milestones and offer examples of play-based, inquiry-based instruction to support early literacy in both English and students' home languages, according to CDE. 'In California, we're focused on an approach to literacy that supports evidence-based instruction and high-quality professional learning,' said State Board of Education President Linda Darling-Hammond. 'The Literacy Roadmap and the Literacy Learning Progressions provide teachers with key resources and tools they can use to support every child in learning to read with comprehension, write with expression, and explore the world of books with excitement.'
