We're nearly halfway through the month of June, and stars like j-hope & GloRilla, Lil Tecca and Gunna marked Friday (June 13) by dropping new collabs, albums and singles galore.
The BTS member and the Memphis MC teamed up for 'Killin' It Girl,' a tinkling hip-hop groove that captures the seductive magnetism of lust at first sight. (Playing the irresistible baddie in question, GloRilla brags, 'He said I be killin' it, I said I do this everyday.')

Meanwhile, Lil Tecca expands on his recent viral singles 'Dark Thoughts' and 'OWA OWA' on his fifth album Dopamine — a 17-track collection which he confidently runs through mostly solo besides closing Ken Carson collab 'Tic Tac Toe' — and Gunna presents a confident ode to his own prospective reign over the rap game with 'Won't Stop' and the weathered stone clock face on its bold cover art.
Elsewhere, Mark Ronson added to his legacy of powerhouse collaborations with female vocalists like Amy Winehouse, Miley Cyrus and Lykki Li by enlisting RAYE for the sparkling, flirty pop-soul fusion of new single 'Suzanne,' and Brandon Lake makes a praiseworthy bid to be the mainstream face of contemporary Christian music with fifth album King of Hearts, which serves as the full-length follow-up to 'Hard Fought Hallelujah,' his 2024 crossover hit with Jelly Roll.
Finally, the title track to Zara Larsson's own upcoming fifth album, Midnight Sun, is Billboard's Editor's Pick of the week with its smitten montage of perfectly curated playlists, fast drives and the all-encompassing infatuation of new love.

Who Could Be the Video Vanguard Recipient at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards? Our Eight Best Guesses

On Tuesday (Aug. 5), MTV announced the nominees for the 42nd annual Video Music Awards. Lady Gaga led nominations with 12, while her 'Die With a Smile' collaborator Bruno Mars was just behind her with 11, with big names like Kendrick Lamar and Sabrina Carpenter trailing shortly behind that pair. While we now know the nominees for marquee categories like video and artist of the year, one award remains remains a mystery for the Sept. 7 VMAs: The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. More from Billboard Selena Gomez Reveals Which Old Song She Wants to Re-Record and Perform Again Justin Bieber Shares Sweet Father-Son Moment With 11-Month-Old Son Jack Blues MGK Reveals What Taylor Swift Said to Him While Watching the Chiefs Lose the 2025 Super Bowl The lifetime achievement award, which dates back to the first-ever VMAs in 1984 and has been given out annually since (with occasional gaps, most recently for the pandemic-stricken first two years of the 2020s), is given to reward 'outstanding contributions' and 'profound impact' on music videos and popular culture. It's named after Michael Jackson, arguably the most outstanding artist in music video history, and has been handed out over the decades to video luminaries ranging from David Bowie and The Rolling Stones to Beyoncé and Missy Elliott. Most recently, the Video Vanguard has been awarded to global pop superstars Shakira (2023) and Katy Perry (2024). Who will be the 2025 recipient? As we did last year — correctly predicting Perry as the '24 honoree — Billboard decided to take a crack at predicting who will get the award this year. We started with some of the biggest and most legendary artists yet to receive the award, and filtered our list through factors like contemporary relevance, promotional considerations and the simple likelihood of the artist being willing to show up to deliver a speech and career-spanning medley performance, as has been customary of honorees for most of the past decade. Here are our eight best guesses for the 2025 Video Vanguard recipient, ranked (roughly) from least to most likely. 8. Lady Gaga Could Gaga cap what might be an already-triumphant night for her with a Video Vanguard win and accompanying career-spanning performance? It's certainly a possibility — and few artists would be as deserving, with Gaga's illustrious career as a music video icon spanning 17 years and encompassing countless classic VMAs moments. But one of those moments came just five years ago with her acceptance of the 'Tricon' award and her accompanying hits medley, which still might be a too-close, too-soon overlap with a prospective Video Vanguard win. 7. Kesha Kesha is coming off her biggest pop moment of the decade with her well-received, Billboard 200 top 20-charting Period album, and the current revival of her brand of what is now called 'recession pop' would make the timing even righter for a career-spanning celebratory performance. But while most Video Vanguard recipients have historically had at least a decade-long run of major MTV hits to pull from, Kesha's biggest pop impact mostly came in the first half of the 2010s — and as much as pop fans liked Period, none of its songs even reached the Billboard Hot 100. 6. Drake Drake unquestionably has the hits for a killer Video Vanguard medley, and he has the motivation — both from a legacy standpoint and from a promotional standpoint — following last year's deflating beef with Kendrick Lamar, and this year's upcoming Iceman release. The one thing he doesn't really have here is much of a relationship with the VMAs: It's unclear if he's even showed up for any of the ceremonies since Rihanna famously curbed him as he presented her with the Video Vanguard in 2016. 5. The Weeknd It's a little now-or-never for the artist born Abel Tesfaye, who heavily teased the retiring (or at least easing-off) of his The Weeknd persona following the release of this year's Billboard 200-topping Hurry Up Tomorrow album. He certainly has the right hits and the right timing, and he's historically cared about such legacy achievements — but would there be too much pressure on another high-profile career-spanning medley performance to live up to his triumphant Super Bowl halftime show from just four years earlier? 4. Bruno Mars Bruno Mars' career has been so stacked with hits that not only has he already performed at Super Bowl halftime twice, his most recent appearance was nine years and eight Hot 100 top 10 hits ago. Two of those, 'Die With a Smile' with Lady Gaga and 'APT.' with ROSÉ, were in the past year, thus making this a golden moment for Mars to celebrate his decade and a half of top-level hitmaking. The only question is if he still has anything to promote: He hasn't released an album since An Evening With Silk Sonic alongside Anderson .Paak four years ago, and even with the two smashes this year (and a third top 20 hit in Sexyy Red collab 'Fat, Juicy & Wet'), there's no indication of a larger project on the way. 3. Mariah Carey Has Mariah Carey really never won the Video Vanguard award? Forget that: Mariah Carey has still never won a single Video Music Award, getting shut out to date in eight career nominations stretching back to 1996. She's up for a ninth in September, with 'Type Dangerous' nominated for best R&B video, but MTV could really make this wrong right by giving Mimi the Video Vanguard for her decades-spanning career as a music video superstar. She'd be on the veteran side for the award at this point, but that didn't stop MTV from honoring Shakira two years ago, so perhaps there's still a chance for MC after all — and given the release of new album Here It for All later this September, now would be the time. 2. Ed Sheeran After a couple more intimate and introspective releases, Ed Sheeran has been jumping back into Big Pop with the singles off his upcoming album Play — one of which, 'Sapphire,' is up for three awards, including best pop and song of the year — at September's awards. Sheeran, a music video and VMAs fixture since the early '10 (as well as a record-setting live performer) seems a perfect candidate for a career-spanning celebration on the MTV stage — particularly because Play is dropping just five days later. 1. Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus is a true legend of the VMAs: a former host, video of the year winner and central figure in one of its all-time most infamous performances, all within just a three-year period in the mid-2010s. She's also a four-time nominee this year, and while her Something Beautiful visual album (up for best long form video) has been out for months at this point, it came with a somewhat muddled rollout and was met with a muted commercial response — meaning Cyrus might feel motivated to redeem its era with a massive spotlight performance on a stage she's very familiar with. We have our fingers crossed, anyway. He also performed on the last two VMAs telecasts – he participated in an all-star salute to hip-hop's 50th anniversary in 2023 and led a 40th-anniversary salute to Def Jam Recordings in 2024. The latter segment also featured surprise guests Chuck D and Flavor Flav from Public Enemy. This year, LL's single 'Murdergram Deaux' (feat. Eminem) is nominated for best hip-hop. The song was taken from his 2024 album THE FORCE. LL has emceed many awards shows, most notably the Grammys, which he hosted for five consecutive years from 2012-16. Additional performers, presenters and special guests will be revealed in the coming weeks. Lady Gaga leads the nominations for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with 12 nods, followed closely by her 'Die With a Smile' duet partner Bruno Mars, who has 11 nods. Other top contenders are Kendrick Lamar (10), ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter (eight each), Ariana Grande and The Weeknd (seven each) and Billie Eilish (six). MTV has yet to announce this year's recipient of the Video Vanguard Award, but Billboard's Andrew Unterberger listed eight likely candidates – in ascending order of perceived likelihood. (Last year, he correctly predicted Katy Perry as the Vanguard recipient, so he knows what he's talking about.) This will mark the first time the show has been broadcast by CBS. It will also simulcast on MTV and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. The 2025 MTV VMAs are executive produced by Bruce Gillmer, Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic, and Barb Bialkowski. Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler is producer. Alicia Portugal is co-executive producer. Jackie Barba is executive in charge of production. Wendy Plaut is executive in charge of celebrity talent. Lisa Lauricella is executive in charge of music talent. This marks Toffler's return to the show following a decade-long absence. Soulshine at Sea 3 Is Cancelled After Artist Exodus

Soulshine at Sea 3 won't set sail as planned. The concert cruise was slated to begin its voyage Nov. 4-8, 2025, headlined by Michael Franti & Spearhead and tracing a path from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico. More from Billboard Fans Choose Conan Gray's 'Wishbone' as This Week's Favorite New Music Hailey Bieber Pokes Fun at Candid Moment Between Justin and Kendall Jenner Ronnie Rondell Jr., Stuntman Set on Fire for Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' Cover, Dies at 88 Produced by Sixthman, and billed as Soulshine at Sea 3 With Michael Franti, the event was officially sold-out back in mid-December 2024. However, the show entered stormy waters in recent days when performers including Dispatch, Maggie Rose, Hirie, and Liz Vice pulled out. Sixthman has returned its plans to dock. 'In light of recent events, the Soulshine at Sea with Michael Franti event scheduled for November 4-8, 2025, is cancelled,' reads a statement posted to the official Soulshine at Sea's website, noting that plans for a separate event are underway. The artist exodus was fueled by allegations of abuse by an unnamed artist on the lineup. Maggie Rose shared a post on her Instagram stories: 'I've made the decision to no longer perform at Soulshine at Sea. There were some allegations made by a peer of mine about another artist on the lineup and I want to stand in solidarity with her. I hope you understand my decision and I appreciate your support.' Another, from Dispatch reads: 'We've decided we will no longer be performing at Soulshine at Sea. We have been made aware of deeply concerning public allegations involving another artist on the lineup and have chosen to withdraw from the event. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.' Hirie and Lice Vice also pulled out, citing similar reasons. Earlier, musician Victoria Canal accused a 'very powerful, decades older' man in the music industry of grooming and sexually abusing her when she was 19. 'This is something I've never spoken about publicly, and have been holding for 8 years now – it has plagued my body, spirit, and mind, in subliminal and overt ways, for my entire 20s,' Canal wrote Aug. 11 on her Instagram account. She declined to mention his name or any specifics 'because I can't risk the financial loss or emotional terror a lawsuit would bring.' This 'experience, which lasted a little over a year, has had a years-lasting effect on my intimate life,' she writes. As the accusations and subsequent cancellation spread on social media, Franti attempted to clear the air with a statement on an extramarital affair, a 'regrettable mistake,' as he puts it. 'I come here most humbly to share my story with you,' he writes in a social post. '7 years ago I had a romantic relationship outside my marriage. It was with an artist who was touring with me. I broke my wedding vows, I broke my wife's trust, I broke her heart and for that I am deeply sorry for the pain my actions have caused.' Franti's wife found out about, and 'to save my marriage, we ended the relationship,' he continues. The unidentified artist continued to tour with Franti in what he depicts as a professional relationship, and after the tour ended, continued to perform with him at 'several shows.' Meanwhile, organisers of Soulshine at Sea are 'actively working to announce a new event that will sail November 4-8, 2025'. Additional details will be shared today, Aug. 18.
