Carole and Michael Middleton were 'hugely dedicated' parents and 'sacrificed' a lot for their children growing up, Kate remembers

As a parent to three children herself, Catherine, Princess of Wales knows just how much effort it can take - which is why she's always quick to praise her own parents for everything they "sacrificed" for her, sister Pippa Middleton and brother James growing up.
The close relationship between Kate and her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, is one that's only got stronger over the years. Carole has always been Kate's 'rock' and it was suggested that being closer to Michael and Carole in Berkshire was one factor that inspired Prince William and Kate's family move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
And it's easy to see why Kate continues to lean on her parents, as she talked lovingly of how "dedicated" the pair were while appearing on Giovanna Fletcher's Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020.

The Princess of Wales reflected upon her idyllic childhood, explaining how Carole and Michael "sacrificed" their free time to cheer them on at all their sporting events.
"I had a very happy childhood. It was great fun. I'm very lucky I come from a very strong family. My parents were hugely dedicated," Kate shared. "I really appreciate now as a parent how much they sacrificed for us. They came to every sports match, they'd be the ones on the side-line shouting, and we'd always have our family holidays together."
It seems that since becoming a mom herself, Kate has come to value Carole and Michael's unwavering commitment to supporting their children's hobbies in a slightly different way. Kate's memories of playing matches and seeing Carole and Michael Middleton on the side-lines cheering have clearly had a huge impact upon her.
She's been pictured attending one of Prince George's football matches before and has often discussed her children's favourite hobbies.
During a different podcast appearance in 2023, Kate also revealed that her well-known love of sports come from her parents' support and encouragement.
"I suppose as a family we were just very active. And I can always remember being physical, using our bodies, whether it's walking, climbing the lake district in Scotland [or] swimming from a young age," she said on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast. "[My parents] always encouraged us to be physically active and sporty and they always encouraged us into doing team sports and trying things."
William and Kate seem to be continuing this tradition, as we already know Prince George is proving to be an ace on the tennis court, having had a lesson from Roger Federer, and Princess Charlotte is a massive fan of ballet.
Whilst the Princess of Wales seems to be taking a similar approach to her parents, their decision to be there at every sports match isn't the only sacrifice they've made. Writing previously in the Mail on Sunday's You magazine, Kate Mansey claimed that while the public "may not have noticed", Carole allegedly accompanied the Waleses on their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014 so she could "help with Prince George".
If this is correct then Carole selflessly spent three weeks away from home to assist with childcare and as she was believed to have still been running her former business, Party Pieces, day-to-day.
This was such a heartfelt gesture from Carole and one that was likely very much appreciated by the Prince and Princess of Wales.

When you see a knife stabbing somebody, it's either rubber or plastic. Flamethrowers, on the other hand, are a whole different deal. While some productions opt for CGI, the truth is that there is a big on-screen difference between real fire and fire that's digitally created, and no genius has yet to invent fire that doesn't hurt/burn. The blaze-spurting weapons are serious business, which is why I am in no way surprised that Ana de Armas had a very emotional reaction using one during the making of Ballerina. As previewed in the trailers for the John Wick side-quel, there is an extended sequence in Ballerina where protagonist Eve Macarro straps on a flamethrower and goes on a mini rampage torching a bunch of dudes – and that's basically what de Armas had to do on set. The people that she was setting on fire were trained and experienced stunt performers who were prepared for said torching with extreme safety at front of mind, but even just practicing for the scene left the star in tears. Speaking about using the extreme weapon during a long lead press day earlier this spring, director Len Wiseman told me, They're scary in such a fun way... I tested it out and the amount of power that it feels behind it. And I remember, I tested it out before so I could tell Ana that it's safe and I've done it. And I got a report and the guys were testing with her when she actually had to actually test flaming somebody. And first attempt, she cried because it's horrifying, you know? Back in late March, I had the great pleasure of joining a small group of journalists for a special experience at 87Eleven headquarters in Los Angeles, and after a training session that saw us learn how to perform the moves in one of the key action sequences in Ballerina, I had the chance to speak with Wiseman about the process of making the film. Having personal experience being on a set where a flamethrower was used, I asked about the tension that the dangerous weapon can create. Wiseman explained that it was definitely a freaky experience for Ana de Armas to purposefully set a person on fire, but once she got past her first taste of it, her mood changed: And then after that, she was really down with it, really cool. She flamed, like, I don't even remember how many people. But imagine you're testing it out and flaming somebody and they're screaming in front of you and you're lighting them on fire. It's a rush. It's traumatic. If you're excited to witness Ana de Armas setting a whole bunch of people on fire, the best news I can offer you is that Ballerina is almost here. Featuring an outstanding ensemble cast including Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, the late Lance Reddick, and John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, the new action film arrives in theaters everywhere on June 6.

The John Wick franchise became more than just a saga following Keanu Reeves' title assassin when it delivered the Peacock subscription-exclusive prequel series The Continental in 2023. Now we're about to enter spinoff territory again with the 2025 movie release of Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas in the lead role. This time though, Reeves gets to partake in this side quest as John Wick, although this didn't mark the first time he and de Armas met. A decade ago, the former showed the latter choreography from the first John Wick movie. Ana de Armas, who has previous action experience from No Time to Die, The Gray Man and Ghosted, reflected on that experience while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She and Keanu Reeves first worked together on Knock Knock, and after they made each other's acquaintance, he showed off some of the moves he'd done for John Wick, which hadn't been released yet. In de Armas' words: The first time we met, we were at lunch, and he told us the story about John Wick. Like, he had just wrapped the first John got up from the chair in the middle of the restaurant and started doing one of the choreos in front of everybody. I was like 'Well, he looks excited.' While Keanu Reeves had no idea at the time that John Wick would spawn a popular franchise, the action choreography alone was enough to make it stand out from the crowd. So Ana de Armas and everyone else in that restaurant got a special tease for what was to come, and man, I wish I could've been there. When John Wick was released in October 2014, it was met with positive critical reception and made $86 million worldwide, somewhere around three-four times its budget. Chapter 2 was greenlit a few months later, and the rest is history. Now the time has come to spotlight Ana de Armas' Eve Macarro in Ballerina, as we'll see her training to exact revenge on the people who killed her father. That will include her clashing with John Wick, and de Armas went on to explain just how much these movies mean to Keanu Reeves, whom she's now worked with three times (they also co-starred in Exposed): These kinds of movies, I mean, this is his happy place. This is what he likes to do. He loves rehearsing, he loves martial so generous too when he goes to set, and he knows you're trying to figure it out. So, he gives you your time, and he just steps back, he's never imposing anything. And then when you're ready, he's like 'I'm coming for you.' Ballerina takes place between the events of the third and fourth John Wick movies. As such, we'll find Reeves' character after he was found by The Bowery King, but before he started carrying out his mission of vengeance against The High Table. Although John Wick: Chapter 5 is in development, if it doesn't get off the ground it's entirely possible Ballerina will be the last time we see him playing the character since Chapter 4 ended with him being presumed dead. But ultimately Ballerina is Ana de Armas' platform to shine on, and her other co-stars include Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick, Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus, among others. The action flick, which arrives in theaters on June 6, was directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, and John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski oversaw the reshoots, although he'll go uncredited for that work.

Why Ballerina's Director Sees The New John Wick Universe Movie As Something Beyond A Spinoff Or Sequel

We live in an age where there are far more than just simple sequels: there are spinoffs, prequels, crossovers, team-ups, capstones, legacyquels, reboots, retcons, and more. It provides modern filmmakers with a lot of creative options when it comes to adding to an existing canon, and it's something that director Len Wiseman very much appreciates when it came to making his new action movie Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. Ballerina is a title that expands the breadth of the ever-growing John Wick universe (which announced a number of other exciting in-the-works projects a few weeks ago), and it sits in an interesting position within the continuity. When I spoke with the film's director earlier this year during a press day at 87Eleven Action Design, he explained how the movie slots into the timeline of the action franchise and noted that it's something a bit different than your standard sequel or spinoff. Said Wiseman, It takes place between Chapter Three and Chapter Four. It was a fun journey to find how it, how it intertwines with three. It was also more interesting to me of like doing that than in say a spinoff, because it's really more of a parallel story within that same world during chapter three and also how John Wick intervenes with our timeline. Ballerina's Director Discusses The Surprise Reaction Ana De Armas Had The First Time She Set Someone On Fire With A Flamethrower Audiences who have seen John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum have gotten an early look into the part of the canon world that will be further explored in Ballerina. In the 2019 movie, the titular Keanu Reeves character is looking for safe harbor as he is being hunted by every assassin on Earth, and he finds it in a theater with an old acquaintance known as The Director (Anjelica Huston). It's during the sequence at this location that we learn of a program that simultaneously trains young women to be both dancers and killers – and it's here that Ana de Armas's Eve Macarro enters the picture. The story in Ballerina essentially uses this sequence as a launching pad, and while it unfurls principally with Eve on a solo mission of personal vengeance, the plot also eventually sees her cross paths with the legendary Baba Yaga as he is gearing up for what audiences got to witness in 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4. It's a cool twist for fans who enjoying marathoning their favorite franchises in special watch orders. Further solidifying it within the John Wick franchise, Ballerina not only features Keanu Reeves' return as the world's most dangerous assassin and Anjelica Huston reprising her role as The Director, but it also has Ian McShane back as Winston Scott and Lance Reddick delivering is final performance as Continental Hotel concierge Charon. Long in the works, Ballerina will be arriving in theaters everywhere on June 6.
