Trainer Reveals the 5 Exercises Every Man Should Do to Build Massive Legs
That's where Bobby Maximus comes in. The renowned fitness authority, former UFC fighter, BJJ world champion, and founder of The Maximus Gym and Project Maximus just shared the only five dumbbell leg exercises you really need. These moves will help you build serious lower-body strength and boost your overall muscle mass.
"If you want to have big legs, you've got to do volume," Maximus says. "I've been telling you guys this from the start, there's no hacks, there's no shortcuts, there's no three easy payments of $9.99. Now, this workout means you're going to be sore for days, but if you want to grow your legs, you're going to have to be sore. I promise you by week three, you will be in the groove of this."Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your toes slightly turned out.
Extend your arms in front of you for balance.
Bend your hips and knees to lower your body like you're sitting in a chair.
Keep your chest up and knees in line with your toes.
Lower until your hips are below your knees, if possible.
Push through your heels to stand back up.
That's 1 rep.
Perform 3 sets of 20 reps.
Stand with the dumbbells in your hands and step back with your right foot, to start.
Lower your body until your front thigh is parallel to the floor and your rear knee nearly touches the floor.
Keep your torso upright.
Step forward to return to the starting position.
Complete all reps on one leg, then switch legs.
That's 1 set.
Perform 3 sets of 20 reps.
In a squat rack, step under the barbell and place it high on your trapezius muscle across the top of your shoulders, to start.
Place your hands a few inches outside shoulder-width to keep the bar stable.
Step back, removing the bar from the rack, and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and toes turned slightly outward.
Take a deep breath, then bend your hips and knees to lower your body as if you were going to sit down in a chair.
Aim for your butt to go lower than knee level while maintaining a tall, upright posture with your upper body.
Extend your hips to come back up, continuing to push your knees outward.
That's 1 rep.
Perform 10 sets of 10 reps at 60 percent of your one rep max.
Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and dumbbells or a barbell in front of you, to start.
Slightly bend your knees and keep them in that position.
Hinge at your hips, pushing your hips back, and lower until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings. Keeping your back flat, pick up the weight.
Stand back up by pushing your hips forward and squeezing your glutes.
That's 1 rep.
Lower the weight back down to shin height before standing back up again to continue your reps.
Perform 5 sets of 10 reps.
Stand in front of a flat bench, facing away from the bench, to start.
Rest the top of one foot on the bench, then transition all your weight onto the other leg. This is your "working leg."
Holding dumbbells in your hands, slowly lower yourself down until your working leg's thigh is parallel to the floor.
Push all your weight through your heel and stand.
That's 1 rep.
Complete all reps on one side, then repeat on the other.
Perform 3 to 5 sets of 10 reps on each leg.Trainer Reveals the 5 Exercises Every Man Should Do to Build Massive Legs first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 7, 2025

Viking Therapeutics stock crashes after weight-loss pill trial shows high dropout rate
Viking Therapeutics (VKTX) stock crashed more than 40% in early trading on Tuesday after a phase 2 trial of its weight-loss pill showed a high patient dropout rate. The company stated that most of the adverse treatment-related symptoms were gastrointestinal in nature, and 99% of the adverse events were mild. Over half (58%) of participants taking the drug reported nausea, compared with 48% for placebo, and a quarter of patients reported vomiting. The obesity treatment showed some promising results: After 13 weeks of once-daily dosing, patients lost 12.2% of their body weight (26.6 lbs on average), compared with a 1.3% loss (2.9 lbs) for the placebo. However, 28% of patients discontinued the treatment before the trial was completed. Viking's oral obesity drug, VK2735, aims to compete with Eli Lilly's drug, orforglipron, which revealed results from its phase 3 trials earlier this month. Eli Lilly's results earlier this month showed patients taking its treatment had a weight-loss rate of 12.4% (27.3 lbs) after 72 weeks. Analysts similarly noted that Eli Lilly's pill had a high patient dropout rate — 25% at the highest dose — and the stock dropped 14% in one day following the results. However, Viking Therapeutic's update may be casting a new light on Eli Lilly's late-stage trials as the race to develop a weight-loss pill heats up. "Data look inferior to LLY on almost all metrics and the thing to consider here is that patients discontinued at such a high rate over 13-weeks vs. LLY in the mid 20% range — but over 72-weeks," Mizuho analyst Jared Holz wrote in a note. "A much longer trial, and [therefore] LLY looks far better head-to-head." Following the results, Eli Lilly stock (LLY) rose 1.7% on Tuesday, while Novo Nordisk (NVO) also rose more than 1%. Pediatrics group's COVID vaccine recommendations differ from CDC advice
The American Academy of Pediatrics is sharing new vaccine recommendations that, for the first time in 30 years, differ from U.S. government advice. In the guidance published Tuesday, the AAP is "strongly recommending" COVID-19 shots for children ages 6 months to 2 years old. For older children, shots are also advised but up to parents' discretion, the AAP said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's advice is different. Under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s guidance, the CDC doesn't recommend COVID-19 shots for healthy children of any age. Instead, the administration says kids may get the shots in consultation with physicians. In a news release Tuesday, AAP President Dr. Susan J. Kressly, said the organization's immunization recommendations will continue to be "rooted in science" and in the "best interest of the health of infants, children and adolescents." "Pediatricians know how important routine childhood immunizations are in keeping children, families and their communities healthy and thriving," Kressly said. Dr. Céline Gounder, CBS News medical contributor and editor-at-large for public health at KFF Health News, told "CBS Mornings Plus" on Tuesday that there's "a lot of noise out there" when it comes to vaccines. "Parents should really stick the course and make sure that their children get all of the routine childhood vaccinations," she said, adding more announcements are expected from other professional societies in the coming weeks. Gounder added AAP's recommendations are really just reaffirming what they've previously advised. "The first encounter with COVID should be with the shot, not with the virus," she said. "There is still a very high risk in younger children, particularly 6 months to 2 years, for hospitalization and severe complications if they get COVID." The AAP's recommendations also included guidance for RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, and flu vaccines. For RSV, the APP recommends immunizations for infants younger than 8 months old who aren't protected via a vaccine from the pregnant parent, and for children 8 to 19 months old at high risk of severe infection. For the flu, the AAP recommends annual vaccines for all children starting at 6 months old, unless they have a medical reason that would prevent them from getting the vaccine. Alaska Sen.
