Ryder Cup: Scottie Scheffler dominates U.S. Ryder Cup race as top 6 qualifiers are set for Bethpage Black

The first half of the U.S. Ryder Cup team is now officially set.
The qualification period for the United States' Ryder Cup team ended on Sunday afternoon following Scottie Scheffler's historic win at the BMW Championship. Scheffler — who has now won five times on the PGA Tour this season — more than doubled up the rest of the Americans in the points race to qualify for Bethpage Black.

Scheffler racked up 37,181 points in the qualification race to lead the way. He actually locked up his spot weeks ago, so his presence at Bethpage Black next month was never in doubt.
J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau were the other five Americans who qualified for the team. Keegan Bradley — who actually finished 11th in the standings — will make his six captain's picks after the Tour Championship to round out the 12-man team.

Bryson DeChambeau is the only LIV Golf member to make the team. He hasn't been able to earn points since the British Open, however, as LIV Golf events do not qualify. He had been promised a place on the team regardless of whether or not he held onto the sixth and final automatic spot, so that ended up being a non-issue.
Bradley put himself into the mix for the Ryder Cup amid one of the best seasons of his career. He finished T17th on Sunday at the BMW Championship and will advance to the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta. He's had five top 10 finishes on Tour this season and won the Travelers Championship, which briefly moved him to his career-high of No. 7 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
But in order for Bradley to make it onto the team, he'd have to select himself. There hasn't been a playing captain since Arnold Palmer did so in 1963.
But plenty, including Rory McIlroy, don't think that being a playing captain is even possible anymore. Bradley said before the BMW Championship that he still wasn't sure what he was going to do. Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Maverick McNealy and Brian Harman round out the top 12.
'I certainly have a lot of concerns, as well as everybody else, but I have the most incredible vice captains, including Jim Furyk, who's been on these teams and been captain a bunch of times. Quite frankly, I've been leaning on them more than any other captain ever anyways, even if I'm not playing,' Bradley said.
'We're ready for this if it happens. I'm not sure it's going to. I can truly sit here right now and say I don't know what's going to happen. I have to look at myself just like any other player trying to make the team. I'm 10th in points right now, and that's not sixth.'

The European Ryder Cup team qualification period will end next Sunday following the Betfred British Masters. It's set up the same way, where the top six will automatically qualify and then captain Luke Donald will make his six captain's picks later. McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood have already secured their spots.
The Ryder Cup is set to kick off on Sept. 26.

2025 LIV Golf Indianapolis prize money payouts for each LIV Golf player at Chatham Hills

The LIV Golf week started with a 59, as Sebastian Munoz posted a sub-60 round (despite recording an early double bogey) and it ended with Munoz hoisting the trophy at The Club at Chatham Hills. He needed to birdie the last hole in regulation to force a playoff against Jon Rahm, and then Munoz birdied it again on the first playoff hole to win his first LIV individual title. For his effots, Munoz banked the $4 million first-place prize from the $20 million total purse. In addition, he will share in the $3 million team prize (split four ways) as his Torque GC won the team portion of the 2025 LIV Golf Indianapolis event. Rahm, meanwhile, wins the season title and the $18 million bonus despite not winning a LIV event all year. LIV Golf Indianapolis 2025 prize money payouts Pos. Robert MacIntyre closes with 40-foot birdie to lead Scottie Scheffler by four at BMW Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Robert MacIntyre was up to the test of facing the No. 1 player in the world Saturday, holing a collection of big par putts and then delivering a 40-foot birdie on the final hole for a 2-under 68 and a four-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler in the BMW Championship. Scheffler picked up one stroke on the five-shot deficit he faced at the start of the steamy afternoon at Caves Valley. He never got closer than three shots. MacIntyre, the lefty from Scotland, got out of several jams, none bigger than the short fifth hole when he drove over a hazard line into the bushes . He decided to hack out, and it shot some 70 feet away for a putt straight down a series of ridges. He two-putted for par, making an 8-footer, one example of his grit before a large gallery that favored Open champion Scheffler. MacIntyre holed an 8-foot putt on the 14th, then turned toward a hospitality area and placed his index finger to his mouth, shushing whoever got under his Scottish skin. He was at 16-under 194, and gets one more day with golf's best. Scheffler finally ended a streak of 37 holes without a bogey and efficiently put together a 67. Ludvig Åberg entered the mix. The Swedish star appears to be emerging from a summer slumber and shot 68 that left him alone in third. He was still six shots behind MacIntyre. No one else was closer than eight shots of the lead. The BMW Championship is the penultimate postseason event that decides the top 30 in the FedExCup who advance to the Tour Championship for a shot at the $10 million prize. Akshay Bhatia helped his chances with an amazing day that included a hole-in-one on the 17th hole to win a car, but more important project him inside the top 30. He also holed out with a wedge on the par-4 seventh for eagle, and turned in a card that had scores of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Harry Hall of England, at No. 45 in the FedExCup, had a second straight 67 and was tied for fourth with Sam Burns (67), projecting him to reach East Lake for the first time and be assured of all the majors except the PGA Championship. Rickie Fowler, who narrowly got into the top 50 to reach Caves Valley, had a 67 to put himself in position to move into the top 30. He was projected just outside the top 30, and those projections are likely to fluctuate wildly on the last day. BMW Championship 2025: Final-round tee times, TV times, how to watch second playoff event Final-round tee times and pairings for the BMW Championship, along with how to watch. Golf Channel Staff , Players often talk about staying present. Hall takes that to another level. 'I've only got one job to do, and that's go recover and hydrate and get ready to hit that first show down the fairway tomorrow,' Hall said. 'My game plan won't fluctuate regardless of the situation I'm in. I think I'll try and do the right thing on every shot, and hopefully that will be enough.' Fowler has an idea what he needs, but he kept it simple. 'Hopefully, just go wear out some fairways and then get the iron play back to where it's been and make some putts,' he said. 'But it sounds a lot easier than it is.' Scheffler is going for his fifth win of the year, which would make him the first player since Tiger Woods to win at least five times in consecutive years. He hasn't had a round over par since the third round of the Travelers Championship nearly two months ago. MacIntyre was clearly up for the test, though. He made five par putts from the 5- to 8-foot range, had a couple of birdie putts inside 6 feet and then ended his day with an uppercut celebration of a 40-foot birdie putt. He was generally safe to make it to the Tour Championship at No. 20, but it could be quite a payoff tomorrow, upward of $6 million with the prize money and bonus for reaching No. 3 in the FedExCup with a win.

ESPN Analyst's Son Was Just Named The No. 1 Recruit in America

ESPN on Thursday dropped its SC NEXT 60 for the high school basketball Class of 2027, and a very familiar name sits at the top of the list. Marcus Spears Jr. has been named by ESPN as the No. 1 basketball recruit in the country. And if his name sounds eerily familiar it's because his father, Marcus Spears Sr., is an ESPN and Monday Night Football analyst. The elder Spears was a standout at LSU before he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the 20th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. That Marcus Jr., a 6-foot-7 power forward, opted for basketball instead of football comes as no surprise. His father was once a highly touted basketball recruit who earned Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors in high school before committing to play football at the SEC powerhouse. What's more, Marcus Jr.'s mother was also a standout basketball star. Aiysha Smith played at LSU before the Washington Mystics selected her with the seventh overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft. Suffice it to say, Marcus Jr. has some serious basketball pedigree. 'I have a lot of respect for my peers and they are great talents as well. To be recognized as the top player in the country in my class is not only an honor but a testament to all the work that's been put in so far," Marcus Jr. said via ESPN. "Much more work to do but honored to be in this spot. The work is all that matters." It goes without saying, Marcus Jr. will have plenty of collegiate options. According to the national recruiting site 247Sports, Marcus Jr. already has 12 offers, including from Kentucky, Houston and, of course, LSU. No word if Marcus Sr. will encourage his son to follow in his parent's footsteps and become a Tiger, but it's safe to say Marcus Sr. will carve out time from his busy schedule as an NFL analyst to watch his son ball out.
