Don't overlook society's role in knowledge acquisition, says Infosys VP V. J. Hanumesh
Tumakuru: Graduates should not consider education complete the moment they receive their degree, stressed V. J. Hanumesh, Vice President at Infosys, while addressing students at the convocation ceremony of Sridevi Engineering College on Saturday.
Hanumesh emphasised the importance of continued learning and acknowledged the crucial contribution of society in the process of knowledge acquisition. 'Knowledge cannot be hoarded by any one individual; it holds immense value worldwide. Education is even more significant than food donation,' he remarked.
Highlighting the collective effort involved in learning, he said, 'Your education comprises 25% from teachers, 25% from your own hard work, 25% from your peers, and 25% from society. Therefore, never forget the debt you owe to your community.' He also urged graduates to maintain good health and cultivate an interest in arts to enhance their thinking abilities, which in turn would lead to greater success.
Dr. M. R. Hulinayakar, President of the Sridevi Group of Educational Institutions, lauded the success of Indian defence operations and technological advancements, particularly referencing the victory of 'Operation Sindhur.' He expressed confidence in India's rapid rise as the world's third-largest economy, driven by the determination of its youth and scientists.
Dr. Raman Hulinayakar, Medical Director of Sridevi Medical College, encouraged the graduates to view their degree as the beginning of a new journey, wishing them a bright future ahead.
College Principal Narendra Vishwanath highlighted the institution's commitment to technical education and appealed to parents for continued support in meeting the challenges ahead. He also spoke about the infrastructure and facilities provided by the college.
About 250 graduating students took the pledge, administered by Academic Dean Dr. N. Chandrashekhar, vowing to use their education for the welfare of society and humanity. The event was attended by senior faculty members, including Dr. L. Girish, Head of the AIDS Department, and Dr. Lavanya Raman, Trustee of Sridevi Charitable Trust.

Madras, June 1: The Indian space satellite programme would not be affected because of the difficulties experienced in the functioning of Aryabhata, Prof. Satish Dhawan, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said here to-day. Prof. Dhawan said that the malfunctioning of some of the equipment on board the Aryabhata was due to the failure of the 'power transistor' system. The fault was detected by the ISRO scientists after careful scrutiny of the material received by Mission Control at Bangalore. These scientists were now working round the clock studying the possibility of reviving the experiments. Even such 'drastic steps' like sending electronic pulses to activate the instruments abroad the satellite were being considered. But it was too early to say whether 'we will succeed in this task,' Prof. Dhawan said. Tracing the initial difficulties encountered by the satellite immediately after it was launched, he said even after a few orbits, it started 'tumbling' and did not 'spin' as expected. The satellite was made of non-magnetic material but even then there was some drag on it, thereby slowing it down. The latest information was that it was normal and orbiting according to the programme, he said.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates Krishi Bhawan in Sambalpur
Sambalpur (Odisha) [India], June 1 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Krishi Bhawan in Sambalpur on the occasion of Sitalsasthi, a major cultural festival in western Odisha. Speaking to mediapersons here, Pradhan said, 'I thank the double-engine government in Odisha for undertaking many works for the benefit of the farmers in the last year... On top of the MSP increased by the central government on Kharif crops, Odisha also gives Rs 800 per quintal from its budget... No one has given so much subsidy, so much help to farmers after independence...' Meanwhile, addressing the 'prhAI: Conclave on AI in Education', organised by the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG), Chief Minister Pradhan said that AI was both inevitable and essential. 'Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity,' Pradhan said. Speaking at the Conclave, Pradhan shared his thoughts on AI's transformative potential in reshaping the Indian education system. Pradhan said that there are hardly any higher education institutions in India where AI is not discussed. He described AI as both inevitable and essential: 'Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity.' The Union Minister added that increasing access to technology has created a highway of empowerment in students' lives. He expressed optimism that India could effectively leverage AI, and said, 'India's human intelligence has the power to transform any emerging technology into an indigenous innovation.' Pradhan shared the policy action required to prepare for the technological change, outlining efforts to build mass-scale AI literacy and support innovation in AI. Pradhan commended the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) for hosting this timely and much-needed policy dialogue. CPRG is a policy research think tank that aims to promote responsive and participatory policy-making. As an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)-recognised institution, it has established itself as a leading voice in technology policy through its 'Future of Society' initiative. (ANI)
