GAA player charged with hit-and-run that left woman with serious injuries
Antrim GAA player Kavan Keenan was today ordered to stand trial accused of causing serious injury to a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident.
Appearing in the dock of Ballymena Magistrates Court, the 26-year-old confirmed he was aware of the two charges against him, both allegedly committed on October 26 last year.
Keenan, from Millfield in Ballymena, is accused of causing grievous bodily injury by driving carelessly on the Glenravel Road and with aggravated vehicle theft causing serious injury.

The charges arise after a Peugeot Partner van struck a pedestrian on the Glenravel Road in Martinstown just before 9pm that Saturday evening.
At the time, it was reported that the victim, a woman in her 30s, sustained 'potentially life-changing' injuries as a result of the hit-and-run incident.
The allegedly stolen van was recovered later that evening and it was found to have sustained frontal damage.
In court today, defence counsel Patrick Taggart conceded there was a prima facie case against Keenan.
Keenan, who plays for his county side as well as Antrim league team All Saints GAC, declined to exercise his rights to comment on the charges or to call evidence on his own behalf.
Returning the case to Antrim Crown Court and scheduling the arraignment to be heard on September 17, District Judge Nigel Broderick granted legal aid and freed Keenan on his own bail of £500 (€578).
Arising from same incident Keenan's father, 55-year-old Joseph Jude John Keenan, also from Millfield in Ballymena, was charged with attempting to obstruct a constable 'in the execution of his duty.'
It will be remaining in the Magistrates Court and after defence solicitor Niall Murphy asked the that case to be adjourned until after his son is arraigned, Judge Broderick adjourned the case against Joseph Keenan to September 18.

Gardaí in Galway investigating multiple thefts from parked vehicles
In an appeal for witnesses, a garda spokesperson explained officers are investigating two separate incidents of theft from vehicles, as well as a burglary. The first incident occurred at approximately 5.40pm on Thursday, July 31 at Applegreen Petrol Station on the Tuam Road, Galway city. A grey BMW X3 jeep was broken into while parked outside the station and a black suitcase was taken from the vehicle. Anyone who may have seen anyone interfering with the vehicle or anyone who may know the whereabouts of the black suitcase is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091-538000 The second incident occurred between 1.30pm and 1.45pm on Friday, August 1, outside the AIB in Oranmore village. A white Peugeot Partner van, which was outside the bank, had the passenger side window smashed and a quantity of cash was taken from the passenger's seat of the vehicle. Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any person acting suspiciously in the area or any person interfering with this van to contact Oranmore Garda Station 091-388030 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111. A further incident of burglary occurred at Kilkerrin Road, Glenamaddy, Co Galway at approximately 3.15pm on Friday, August 1. Two males entered the property through the rear door, the two intruders were disturbed by the homeowner and they fled the scene in a silver Lexus car. Sentencing was adjourned at the Dublin Children's Court on Tuesday pending the preparation of a pre-sanction report. Judge Shalom Binchy saw a list of the damaged specialised fixtures and fittings: padded door and wall, foam materials, an ocean effect projector, balls, a sensory tube, a mirror, steps, a railing, and other items in the room. Garda Jordan Martin described the scene afterwards as "completely destroyed, it was trashed". The court heard the four youths had gone when gardai went to the centre at 9.40 pm and saw a door had been opened. Garda Martin said it had been recently refurbished with a new sensory room for children with autism from the locality. CCTV evidence from the building led to the identification of the accused, then aged 13, and three other boys who gained entry by force; however, there was no footage from inside the sensory room. Garda Martin said they were responsible for substantial damage, which cost €12,178 to repair. The room was due to be unveiled the following week, but that had to be delayed. Defence solicitor Brian Keenan acknowledged the seriousness of the incident, which he added was aggravated by the fact that it was a facility for children who needed it the most. The teenager did not give evidence, but his solicitor said he was apologetic and was pleading guilty. Mr Keenan pleaded with the judge not to send the case to the Circuit Court, which has greater sentencing powers, and to note his age and level of maturity at the time were important factors. He asked the judge to note that the Director of Public Prosecutions recommended the case be dealt with in the Children's Court, which could consider a maximum one-year term, and which Mr Keenan argued was sufficient to deal with the case. The boy, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile with the legal right to anonymity, accepted that he "pulled at" some items in the room. The court heard he was still in school, keeping his head down, not coming to Garda attention, and was engaging with a social care services provider in Dublin. The other boys involved in the incident avoided a court prosecution after being found eligible for the Garda Youth Diversion Programme, which aims to prevent young offenders and children involved in anti-social behaviour from reoffending. However, the defendant was not suitable for that approach and was charged.
