Country Star Lorrie Morgan ‘Devastated' After Sixth Husband Dies From Cancer

Yahoo02-06-2025
Country music star Lorrie Morgan has shared her heartbreak after the death of her sixth husband of 17 years, Randy White.
Morgan put her touring career on hold in April while White battled mouth cancer. He passed away on the morning of June 1, aged 72.
The pair shared a blended family with six children, fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In a heartfelt tribute posted to her X account, Morgan wrote, 'Randy has been my partner and my rock for 17 years. Our big, wonderful family and I are devastated at the loss of this truly kind and incredible man. I was blessed by his love. Ran-Ran, I will love and miss you forever.'
In December, Morgan told fans her husband was 'making some progress.' The dual CMA Award winner added, 'We are strong and he is determined. I love you RanRan.'
'We are strong and he is determined,' she wrote. 'I love you RanRan.'
White's stepson, country singer Jesse Keith Whitley, posted a tribute on his Facebook page.
'The recent years of my life all the way back to when I was 22-23 years old this great man has been here and loved my mom, and also me and my sister as we were his own,' Whitley wrote.
'He showed me love and showed me a relationship with Jesus even though I grew up Catholic, I kinda distanced myself a little from it. He has been the best grandfather for my kids they could ever ask for. Has come and picked me up late night when it wasn't safe to drive and was never mad .. not even once (this happened multiple times lol).'
'I can't tell you the amount of love that has poured in from fans, family and friends. We will miss you always and forever and our hearts are shattered in losing you. But you have fought one helluva fight RanMan! Rest easy.'
Morgan commented on the post, 'Love you son.'
White was born on May 15, 1953 and was a retired Nashville business owner.
He was Morgan's sixth husband. The pair married in September 2010. Morgan's other husbands included country singers Keith Whitley, John Randall and Sammy Kershaw.
Morgan's first country single charted in 1979 and she has had three Billboard country No.1 hits: 'Five Minutes', 'What Part Of No' and 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength'. She is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
A statement from Morgan's publicist stated 'The family appreciates prayers of support and requests privacy during this difficult time.'

How you can pack a lunch that a child will actually eat

For Rebecca Zeitlin, packing her 5-year-old son's school lunch is always full of surprises. Offer him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at home and he won't touch it. But pack it in his lunch with fruits, vegetables and a small treat and he'll dive in. He will 'chow down' on applesauce at preschool parties. But if she served him applesauce at home, 'he'd look at me like I was crazy,' Zeitlin said. Like many parents, Zeitlin has been thinking about school lunch ahead of her son's first day of kindergarten. Lunchtime will be different than it was at his small private preschool, where teachers could more closely monitor whether he was eating. She's already been eyeing school lunch conversations in mom groups on Facebook, and she's has new lunch boxes ready to pack. She plans to start off with some of her usual go-tos. Perhaps she'll pack him chicken nuggets or pasta alongside strawberries, oranges or watermelon. 'I think it's going to be real interesting to see what next month is going to be like,' Zeitlin said. 'I've got my plans for now, but when reality hits, his lunches might look different.' For parents of children 5 and under, navigating school lunch can be challenging. Colorful videos fill TikTok and Instagram showing off creatively shaped sandwiches and neatly cut vegetables laid in bento box-like containers. Lunch box styles can make a difference, influencers advise, as they share school-friendly recipes. It's easy for parents to worry that they got it wrong when a child returns home with uneaten food, said Anet Piridzhanyan, a clinical dietitian at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. But there are a few basic steps to make school lunches a success. What should parents put in their toddler's lunch box? It's important to remember that the start of the school year is exciting, but can also be overwhelming for a young child, said Lori Russell, a registered dietitian and nutritionist at the Mayo Clinic. It may not be that they don't like their food — they may simply be distracted. Either way, lean into familiarity to encourage them. And don't offer too many options. 'We have this tendency to overdo it,' Russell said. 'If parents want to fill that lunch box with everything that that kid might possibly consume that you have in the house, that's stressful.' Kids should have one main item in their lunch box and two or three snacks, which could include carrot sticks or an apple and perhaps a small treat such as a piece of chocolate, she said. Piridzhanyan agreed, recommending that parents rotate through the five food groups throughout the week, packing different fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins and dairy. Consistency is key. If a parent plans to offer something new in their child's lunch box, they should pair it with a food item they know their child likes, she added. 'Every day is a new day,' Piridzhanyan said. 'They've only been around for two to five years, so it's not like us where, when we see food, we're like, 'Oh yeah, I know what that is.'' That's something that Gabriella May has learned as her daughter has grown. May, of Fresno, has been making videos of her daughter's school lunches for TikTok since she started kindergarten. She's now in fifth grade. Her daughter has always been a picky eater, so introducing new foods at school without the pressure of having mom and dad nearby was helpful — and still is, she said. What's the best lunch box for toddlers? It's important for parents to make sure that the food they pack is accessible and that they have the utensils and napkins that they need, the dietitians said. Parents should practice opening containers with their child and make sure the lunch box isn't too heavy. 'We tend to focus on what's in it and what's being consumed, and not the actual container,' Russell said. 'And does the child like it? Are they enjoying opening it? Carrying it? All that really makes a difference.' That's where, for many parents, bento box-style lunch boxes come in. The compartmentalized containers have been popularized on social media. For Zeitlin, the PlanetBox lunch box has been a great go-to. 'It's just kind of convenient,' Zeitlin said. 'Everything's in one place.' Russell, who has a 4-year-old, said that when a child likes their lunch box or container it can encourage them to eat. That's why options with beloved characters can be a good choice. 'It's not just about the food, it's about the favorite cup, the plate,' Russell said. How to get your kid to eat lunch at preschool Parents should ask their children why they did or didn't eat their lunch, Russell said. Sometimes the bread might have been too soggy, the apple slices may have browned or the texture of the macaroni and cheese may have changed after spending all day in a lunch box. If the answer isn't satisfying, ask the teacher what they have observed, she said. It helps to know how the teacher or child-care provider stores the food, Piridzhanyan added. Sometimes kids will have access to a refrigerator, other times the food may be left out in the sun, so it helps to be able to plan accordingly by adding an ice pack or a thermos to help keep food safe and appetizing, she said. 'A lot of times the lunch box bags are left out in the classroom, so that part's really important,' Piridzhanyan said. Presentation does matter to a degree, but there's no need to go overboard. If parents want to do something special, Russell recommends quickly using a cookie cutter on a sandwich or adding a sticker alongside the snacks. Zeitlin can't wait until her 5-year-old son learns to read. Then, she'll start leaving notes in his lunch box expressing encouragement and telling jokes. She's held on to a book of dad jokes for 20 years just for the occasion. Kids Feel Less Pain With Underused Kidney Stone Treatment

Shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) for pediatric patients leads to less pain and fewer abnormal urinary symptoms after recovery than the widely used ureteroscopy (URS) procedure, according to research published in JAMA Network Open . Researchers and other urologists said the findings confirm what they have observed: Fewer children and teens complain of pain and other symptoms in the days after the SWL than the URS, despite similar efficacy rates of each treatment. The incidence of kidney stones has risen in the past few decades, with the majority of these cases receiving URS. 'Patients are increasingly faced with this question of which procedure to choose and have very little information to guide them,' said Gregory Tasian, MD, director of the Pediatric KIDney Stone Care Improvement Network at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, and lead author of the study. 'All of the information that existed has been based on the ability to clear stones, which is important but doesn't account for other factors that patients and their parents find really important.' The researchers undertook the study to gather more robust evidence for treatment protocols, Tasian said. Caregivers and patients were included in initial planning to determine relevant outcomes, including the measures of pain intensity and missed school, he said. In a nonrandomized clinical trial, 1142 patients aged 8-21 years completed a questionnaire 1 week after their procedure. Those who received the shockwave procedure reported an average pain intensity score of 42.8 on a 56-point scale, about 7 points lower than for those who underwent URS. Scores for pain interference with daily life in the shockwave group averaged 10 points lower than among the URS group. Stones were cleared in 71% of patients who received URS and about 68% of those who received SWL. Average patient scores on a questionnaire assessing difficult and uncontrollable urination were about 4 points lower in the SWL group than in the URS group. Patients who received SWL also missed 21% fewer school days, and their parents missed 23% fewer workdays than those who received URS. The study took place between 2020 and 2023 at 31 medical centers in the US and Canada. The majority of the population was women (60%) and White (77%). 'We learned from this research that pain is much greater with ureteroscopy, as are urinary symptoms,' said Tasian. 'And that really drives the patient experience.' The American Urological Association (AUA) currently recommends URS and SWL equally for stones < 20 mm. But the guidance is based on low-level certainty evidence that does not include studies on patient experience, including pain levels. The more frequent use of ureteral stents — tubes used to open and drain the urethra — in URS may account for the higher pain levels and disruptions to daily life, Tasian said. Patients in the study undergoing URS needed a stent 80% of the time compared with 2.6% of those undergoing SWL and were 10 times more likely to need an additional surgery under general anesthesia to remove the stent. Many hospitals do not have the lithotripter needed for the shockwave procedure, said Renea Sturm, MD, an assistant professor of pediatric urology at UCLA Health, Los Angeles, and an author of the study. As a result, 'real-world implementation of the treatment may be a bit challenging,' Sturm said. 'I think a lot of us will want to change our practice, and this research helps us argue with the larger system' to purchase the equipment, said Kathleen Kan, MD, pediatric urologist at Stanford Medicine Children's Health in Los Gatos, California, who was not involved in the study. She said that her patients who receive SWL are less likely to message her afterward with complaints of pain. New AUA kidney stone guidelines are currently in development and expected to be released in 2026, a spokesperson for AUA said. The study was funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Kan and Sturm reported having no disclosures. Tasian reported receiving grants from the PCORI.

Lisa steps into heartbreak: Blackpink star channels grief in ‘Dream' music video (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Blackpink's Lisa has released the music video for Dream, a track from her debut solo album Alter Ego, which features Japanese actor and model Kentaro Sakaguchi as her lost love. According to Billboard, the five-minute clip directed by OJun Kwon sees Lisa using her acting skills — the Kpop girl group superstar starred as Mook, a a health-guru type in The White Lotus — as a heartbroken widow haunted by memories of her partner. It opens with the singer in funeral attire placing a white flower on his casket, before the video shifts to scenes of happier days — road trips, late-night stops, and playful moments that highlight the couple's bond. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that her lover is gone. Lisa is shown carrying his ashes to a lake, recalling a conversation where they shared dreams of another life together. The video ends with her scattering his remains, symbolising both loss and longing. Sakaguchi, known for his roles in Japanese dramas and films, currently stars in Netflix's Beyond Goodbye, where he plays Naruse Akihito, a man whose fate becomes entangled with a grieving woman. Lisa, meanwhile, continues to enjoy solo success. She recently picked up her third MTV Video Music Awards nomination for Best K-pop with Born Again, and is on tour with Blackpink, with the group set to perform at London's Wembley Stadium this month.
