Thai wedding, 19 plots, 4 flats: Telangana engineer arrested in graft case
An executive engineer in Telangana's Irrigation and Command Area Development Department, Nune Sridhar, has been arrested after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) unearthed assets worth several crores allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officer was arrested following searches at 13 locations linked to him and his relatives. According to the ACB, Sridhar, who served in Division number 8, SRSP Camp, Choppadandi, Karimnagar, is accused of acquiring properties through 'unlawful practices and dubious means'. The searches revealed a sprawling web of assets, including luxury real estate and lavish personal expenses. Telangana Engineer's lavish lifestyle under scrutiny Among the most talked-about discoveries was a destination wedding hosted by Sridhar in Thailand for his son, on which he reportedly spent crores. Authorities also traced a high-end 4,500 sq ft flat in Sky High, a luxury residential complex in Shaikpet, Hyderabad, in addition to at least three other flats in Karimnagar. Sridhar is also alleged to own a villa in Tellapur near Hyderabad, three independent buildings in Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar, 19 prime residential plots in these cities, and 16 acres of agricultural land. Commercial space at Ameerpet, stakes in several hotels in Karimnagar, two four-wheelers, gold jewellery, and significant bank deposits were also found during the searches. The ACB confirmed Sridhar's arrest, and he has been sent to judicial remand. The market value of the properties is expected to be much higher than the registered value. Further investigations are ongoing. Links to Kaleshwaram project Sridhar has also been involved in the controversial Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, touted as the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation initiative. The project has faced persistent allegations of irregularities and corruption. The former chief minister of Telangana and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekar Rao has also been summoned by the PC Ghose Commission, which is investigating alleged violations in the project's execution. These corruption allegations had featured prominently during the 2023 Assembly election campaigns. The BRS, however, has denied all wrongdoing, asserting that the project was implemented in the public interest. [With agency inputs]

Revanth has no understanding of irrigation or KCR's vision: KT Rama Rao
HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao came down heavily on the Congress government over the Commission of Inquiry on Kaleshwaram issuing notices to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Addressing the media outside BRKR Bhavan, after KCR deposed before the PC Ghose Commission, Rama Rao questioned the logic behind targeting a leader who transformed Telangana into a paddy-rich green state. 'If Kaleshwaram had been built in a foreign country, KCR would have been immortalised in global irrigation history. But in India, such monumental achievements are reduced to pawns in political vendetta,' he remarked. The former minister called Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy a 'petty and incompetent CM' who is more focused on vengeance than governance. 'He lacks basic understanding of Cabinet functioning and has to run to Delhi even for portfolio allocations,' he alleged. The legislator from Sircilla accused Revanth of deriving sadistic pleasure from targeting BRS leaders and recalled his own past including the cash-for-vote scandal. 'A man who went to jail with cash bags is now misusing power to send others to jail out of sheer revenge,' he stated, warning that such politics would only backfire on the Congress. Orchestrated distractions Dismissing allegations of corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, Rama Rao noted that even Revanth Reddy's own father-in-law, Soodini Padma Reddy, had termed the `1 lakh crore scam claim as 'naive'. He suggested that Revanth spend at least five minutes with his father-in-law to understand the project's magnitude and importance. Rama Rao accused the Congress of using the Kaleshwaram inquiry, along with other controversies like phone-tapping and Formula E cases, to divert public attention from its unfulfilled six guarantees and false promises. 'These are all orchestrated distractions. The people will not fall for them,' he said. He further asserted that the BRS would continue to question the Congress on behalf of the people of Telangana. 'We will not rest until this incompetent Congress government is politically defeated,' he vowed. The BRS leader urged the public to remain focused on the real issues — Congress' betrayal of electoral promises and its administrative failure.

Kaleshwaram project row: If found guilty, no one will be spared, warns Revenue Min Ponguleti
MULUGU: Dismissing the claims of political vendetta behind the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the execution of the Kaleshwaram project, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday said that once the PC Ghose Commission submits its report, those involved will have to 'face the consequences for their misdeeds.' Speaking to the media in Mulugu, the minister said: 'There is no question of any political revenge in this issue. The Central commission is conducting the inquiry. After the Commission submits its report, the culprits will have to face the consequences. No matter who they are and what their status is, they will not be spared.' 'The previous BRS regime had projected the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme as the eighth wonder of the world. The Kalvakuntla family looted the state while pillars of the project caved in during the BRS regime itself,' he added. 'KCR, the self-declared 'father of Telangana', deposed before the PC Ghose Commission. None of the people who were involved in this scam will be excluded from this inquiry,' he further said. Stating that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy protected the Kaleshwaram project by taking up temporary repair works, he said: 'The flaws in the project design, defects in its execution and damage caused to its various components will be revealed once the Commission of Inquiry submits its report. Then the courts will deal with it as per law.' 'The Congress government will neither spare those responsible for Kaleshwaram scam nor those involved in phone-tapping, land-grabbing, and Mission Bhagiratha scams,' he added. Earlier, Srinivas Reddy, along with Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and MP P Balaram Naik, distributed sanction letters for Indiramma Housing Scheme beneficiaries at Incherla village in Mulugu district. They also laid the foundation stone for the construction of houses in the Indiramma Colony of the village. Stating that the government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses in the first phase across the state, he said that the highest allocation of 5,000 houses was made in the Mulugu Assembly constituency. Later in the day, Srinivasa Reddy and Seethakka took part in the Bhu Bharathi Revenue Sadassulu programme at Govindaraopet village and interacted with the applicants.
