Kaleshwaram project row: If found guilty, no one will be spared, warns Revenue Min Ponguleti

MULUGU: Dismissing the claims of political vendetta behind the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the execution of the Kaleshwaram project, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday said that once the PC Ghose Commission submits its report, those involved will have to 'face the consequences for their misdeeds.'
Speaking to the media in Mulugu, the minister said: 'There is no question of any political revenge in this issue. The Central commission is conducting the inquiry. After the Commission submits its report, the culprits will have to face the consequences. No matter who they are and what their status is, they will not be spared.'
'The previous BRS regime had projected the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme as the eighth wonder of the world. The Kalvakuntla family looted the state while pillars of the project caved in during the BRS regime itself,' he added.
'KCR, the self-declared 'father of Telangana', deposed before the PC Ghose Commission. None of the people who were involved in this scam will be excluded from this inquiry,' he further said.
Stating that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy protected the Kaleshwaram project by taking up temporary repair works, he said: 'The flaws in the project design, defects in its execution and damage caused to its various components will be revealed once the Commission of Inquiry submits its report. Then the courts will deal with it as per law.'
'The Congress government will neither spare those responsible for Kaleshwaram scam nor those involved in phone-tapping, land-grabbing, and Mission Bhagiratha scams,' he added.
Earlier, Srinivas Reddy, along with Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and MP P Balaram Naik, distributed sanction letters for Indiramma Housing Scheme beneficiaries at Incherla village in Mulugu district. They also laid the foundation stone for the construction of houses in the Indiramma Colony of the village.
Stating that the government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses in the first phase across the state, he said that the highest allocation of 5,000 houses was made in the Mulugu Assembly constituency.
Later in the day, Srinivasa Reddy and Seethakka took part in the Bhu Bharathi Revenue Sadassulu programme at Govindaraopet village and interacted with the applicants.

KTR slams Congress govt for crippling farm & education in Telangana

Hyderabad, June 13 (UNI) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of gross negligence towards agriculture and education sectors. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), KTR alleged that the Congress government has failed to show any commitment to the farming community or the state's education system. He said that even as the monsoon season begins, there is no clarity or preparedness regarding the implementation of the farmer assurance schemes. KTR criticised the government's inaction on several fronts, including what he termed as a 'meagre loan waiver,' the absence of farmer assurance and pending insurance dues, and the stalling of key agricultural projects. He expressed concern that agriculture, which he described as having become a "festival" during the BRS's decade-long rule, is now facing severe setbacks under the Congress regime in just over a year. Highlighting the plight of the education sector, KTR said that despite schools reopening, the government continues to display a negligent attitude. He lamented that the robust welfare gurukul system, which flourished under BRS with the establishment of over a thousand residential schools, is now struggling due to a lack of proper support and planning. 16th Finance Commission meet in Delhi today; Karnataka CM to raise tax devolution

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had recently skipped a crucial meeting of the Niti Aayog on May 24, will meet the 16th Finance Commission in New Delhi on Friday. The CM will pitch for change in criteria for the devolution of funds from the Centre to the State. He held talks with the top brass of the Finance Department on Wednesday. According to sources, the CM will appeal to the Commission to recommend restoration of the State's share of 4.713 per cent, which was reduced to 3.647 per cent in the 15th Finance Commission, causing a loss to the tune of Rs 79,770 crore for a period between 2021-2026. Even as the Commission had recommended a state-specific grant of Rs 11,495 crore, including for the peripheral ring road and development of tanks in Bengaluru, the Centre did not release the funds. Siddarmaiah may take up this issue with the Commission and urge that instead of recommending the state-specific grants, recommend grants based on tax collection efforts, in particular the GST, of the State. During the Commission's visit to Karnataka, the CM had presented a memorandum urging the Centre to share the cess and surcharges with the State by bringing them into the divisible pool. Siddaramaiah would insist that the Centre scrap the policy of revenue deficit grants to the States, those that present deficit budgets, according to a source. Karnataka had reportedly sought higher weightage for the 'efficiency criteria over the equity criteria' in its presentation before the 16th Finance Commission panel. While equity criteria have income distribution, population, and area among others, the efficiency criteria have demographic performance and tax collection effort. Karnataka has also sought inclusion of the State's contribution to the GDP in the efficiency criteria while deciding on the devolution of funds to states.
