One month after Sigachi tragedy, ex-gratia still eludes victims' kin

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader T Harish Rao today demanded monthly remuneration for the families of victims of the Sigachi fire accident in Pashamylaram, alleging that despite one month having passed, the Rs 1 crore ex-gratia announced by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has yet to reach them. Harish Rao visited the Sangareddy Collectorate along with the grieving families of the Sigachi fire tragedy victims, where he met the Additional Collector, questioning the government's complete failure in handing over bodies and providing compensation. Leading a protest rally to the Collectorate, Harish Rao stated that nearly a month had passed since the Sigachi incident, yet the affected families were still observing monthly mourning rituals. He pointed out that while the Chief Minister had visited and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 crore for each deceased victim, not a single family had received any funds, even after a month. Families, he added, were not even given the bodies for final rites; some reportedly received only ashes, which they immersed in the Godavari River. Such a horrific industrial disaster, claiming 54 lives, had never occurred before in united Andhra Pradesh or in Telangana, yet the government's response has been 'utterly inhumane and irresponsible.' Harish Rao condemned the alleged insensitivity of officials, stating, 'When families ask for ex-gratia and death certificates, officials coldly say 'At least you got ashes. In the SLBC incident, even that wasn't available.' What kind of inhuman behaviour is this?' He noted that families from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh had reportedly spent between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 merely to travel and stay in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister announced Rs 1 crore compensation, but 'when, by whom, and how? No one has an answer,' he said, adding that many victims were still undergoing treatment. While the Chief Minister promised Rs 10 lakh for the severely injured, only Rs 50,000 was allegedly paid, and the matter closed. The BRS leader demanded Rs 50 lakh for the critically injured and a monthly salary for their sustenance. Rao highlighted that it was an NGO, 'Scientists for People,' that eventually filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking compensation for victims. He questioned why, even after a month, the government had not officially released the number of dead or injured. 'Why is the government hiding the names of the deceased, the compensation paid, and the help extended to the injured?' he demanded. The BRS leader further asked why the government had not revealed the real cause behind this disaster, stating that the committee appointed by the Chief Minister had seemingly 'vanished.' He concluded that even after a month and 54 deaths, no action had been taken against the company. Stating that the Chief Minister's 'irresponsibility on such a serious matter was unacceptable,' the BRS leader urged the Chief Minister to 'open his eyes before it's too late.'

Harish questions delay in extending aid to Sigachi blast victims

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Monday alleged that the families of Sigachi blast victims were yet to receive the promised Rs 1 crore ex gratia. The former minister, along with the victims' families, led a rally to the Sangareddy district additional collector's office and spoke to the official about the reasons for the delay in disbursing the compensation to the kin of the victims. He demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation for those grievously injured and Rs 25 lakh for others injured. He also submitted a representation on behalf of the victims' families to the additional collector Chandrasekhar Badugu. Later, addressing the media, Harish Rao said that although the company announced it would disburse the ex gratia to the victims' kin within 15 days, there was no response from either the firm or the govt. He said that 14 people were still undergoing treatment in various hospitals, and only Rs 50,000 was paid to each of the injured. BRS urges HC to take suo motu action on food poisoning cases in Gurukuls

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Sunday urged the Telangana high court and the state human rights commission to take suo motu cognisance of the food poisoning incidents and student deaths in Gurukul institutions. He made the appeal after interacting with students of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Girls' BC Gurukul school in Nagarkurnool district, where 111 students reportedly fell ill after consuming contaminated food. He highlighted similar incidents in Jagtial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddakothpalli, and Husnabad, claiming that over 100 gurukul students died under the 20 months of Congress rule. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad Harish Rao slammed chief minister A Revanth Reddy for failing to take action against officials concerned, despite earlier promises to suspend them in the event of such occurrences. He accused the govt of failing to provide quality meals to SC, ST, BC, and minority children, while being willing to spend over Rs 1 lakh per plate on beauty pageants. He pointed out that under the BRS regime, the number of gurukul schools increased from 284 to 1,023, serving over 6 lakh students. However, he alleged that the Congress govt is not adhering to the mandated menu, instead serving worm-infested rice and poor-quality sambar in place of puri or chapati, as promised. Accusing the govt of endangering the future of children, he warned of statewide protests if the negligence continues.

Telangana plans forensic audit of land ‘fraud'

HYDERABAD: Following allegations of large-scale land misappropriation in the Sircilla and Siddipet regions coming to light recently, the state government is planning to initiate a pilot project for its proposed 'forensic audit' of the alleged irregularities. The violations were allegedly committed by using the Dharani portal, the integrated land revenue records management system, which was rolled out during the BRS regime. Sources privy to the developments said that the pilot project would be completed in two months. According to top sources, the government intends to begin the forensic audit in these two key constituencies, both of which are politically sensitive. They have long been strongholds of the opposition BRS. While Sircilla is represented by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, Siddipet is the constituency of senior BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao. Based on the terms of reference set by the Revenue department, the Kerala Security Audit and Assurance Centre (KSAAC) will carry out the investigation. The sources added that the investigation is likely to start within a fortnight. The decision to start the audit in Sircilla and Siddipet constituencies is being viewed as politically motivated, with ruling party insiders suggesting it could be the beginning of a wider effort to expose alleged financial and administrative misconduct under the previous government led by the BRS. The proposed forensic audit will involve a detailed technical and legal scrutiny of land records, mutations and ownership changes, using advanced tools like satellite imagery, blockchain verification and revenue department cross-verification. This is the first time the state is attempting such a high-level investigative mechanism to address land fraud and encroachments. The sources said that similar audits are likely to be carried out across other districts, especially those where suspicious land transactions took place, if the pilot proves successful.

BRS plans meets to expose Cong govt's laxity in Krishna waters

Hyderabad: The BRS party leadership is set to hold a series of meetings in the Krishna basin districts to highlight what it terms the Congress government's negligence regarding Krishna river waters, particularly concerning the Banakacherla issue. A meeting of senior leaders took place on Monday at the Nandi Nagar residence of BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao, who had summoned party working president KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, and G Jagadish Reddy. The meeting gains significance as the government has decided to issue an ordinance providing 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in the forthcoming local body elections. BRS leaders plan to conduct public meetings in Krishna basin districts, with the first scheduled for Mahabubnagar. The party aims to explain to the public the government's perceived negligent attitude towards the interests of the people of Telangana. According to sources, the BRS chief has instructed two key leaders to commence preparations for the upcoming local body elections. The party leadership will initiate training classes for party activists, beginning with the TRSV, the student wing, on 19 July at Telangana Bhavan. Other wings will receive training subsequently. The responsibility for these training sessions has been assigned to senior leaders T Harish Rao and Deshapati Srinivas, sources indicated. Sources also revealed that the party will support the dharna (protest) called by various BC organisations at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Tuesday. Party leaders and activists have been urged to support the dharna and stand with the BCs amidst what they describe as the government's delaying tactics in providing 42 per cent reservations. There was a discussion on the party's approach should the government issue an ordinance. The party may become directly involved in protest programmes following the training classes.
