Telangana plans forensic audit of land ‘fraud'

HYDERABAD: Following allegations of large-scale land misappropriation in the Sircilla and Siddipet regions coming to light recently, the state government is planning to initiate a pilot project for its proposed 'forensic audit' of the alleged irregularities.
The violations were allegedly committed by using the Dharani portal, the integrated land revenue records management system, which was rolled out during the BRS regime. Sources privy to the developments said that the pilot project would be completed in two months.
According to top sources, the government intends to begin the forensic audit in these two key constituencies, both of which are politically sensitive. They have long been strongholds of the opposition BRS. While Sircilla is represented by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, Siddipet is the constituency of senior BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao.
Based on the terms of reference set by the Revenue department, the Kerala Security Audit and Assurance Centre (KSAAC) will carry out the investigation.
The sources added that the investigation is likely to start within a fortnight.
The decision to start the audit in Sircilla and Siddipet constituencies is being viewed as politically motivated, with ruling party insiders suggesting it could be the beginning of a wider effort to expose alleged financial and administrative misconduct under the previous government led by the BRS.
The proposed forensic audit will involve a detailed technical and legal scrutiny of land records, mutations and ownership changes, using advanced tools like satellite imagery, blockchain verification and revenue department cross-verification.
This is the first time the state is attempting such a high-level investigative mechanism to address land fraud and encroachments. The sources said that similar audits are likely to be carried out across other districts, especially those where suspicious land transactions took place, if the pilot proves successful.

Minister Sridhar Babu Distributes Ration Cards in LB Nagar, Highlights Welfare Initiatives

*Hyderabad, 2 August 2025:* IT Minister and District In-charge Duddilla Sridhar Babu said that the Congress-led Praja Prabhu government has been promptly implementing welfare schemes since coming to power, with a focus on public needs and social justice. The minister was speaking at a ration card distribution programme held at Kothakapu Yadava Reddy Gardens in Karmanghat, LB Nagar. He was joined by Government Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy, MLC Boggarapu Dayanand, former MP Madhuyashki Goud, corporation chairmen Malreddy Ramreddy and Challa Narasimha Reddy, GHMC Congress Floor Leader Daripalli Rajasekhar Reddy, corporators Venkateswar Reddy and Sujatha Nayak, Zonal Commissioner Hemant Keshav Patil, Youth Congress State President Jakkidi Shivacharan Reddy, and former PCC secretary Jakkidi Prabhakar Reddy. Addressing the gathering, Minister Sridhar Babu stated that the Congress government is committed to respecting public aspirations and addressing their needs. He criticised the previous BRS government, claiming it failed to issue even a single new ration card during its tenure and left the state burdened with loans amounting to ₹8 lakh crore and a monthly interest obligation of ₹7,000 crore. Despite the financial challenges, he noted that the government is supplying 6 kg of free rice per person under the ration card scheme and has launched several other welfare programmes, including housing for the homeless and poor. The minister also highlighted that over 65,000 government jobs have been filled and that Group-I examinations, which were not conducted in the past decade, have now resumed. He added that 200 units of electricity are being provided free of cost and that a new law ensuring 42% reservations for Backward Classes has been introduced. He appealed to BJP MPs and MLAs to ensure the President's assent for the legislation. Supporting the minister's remarks, Government Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy affirmed the government's commitment to both welfare and development. MLC Dayanand and Road Development Corporation Chairman Malreddy Ramreddy accused the former BRS regime of deceiving the public with empty promises. Officials including former corporator Lakshmi Prasanna Rammohan Goud, Kandukur RDO Jagadishwar Reddy, tehsildars Venugopal and Janaki, DSO Vanajatha, ASO Pullaiah, and GHMC Deputy Commissioners Sujatha, Vaikuntam, and Suryaprakash Gupta were also present at the event.

Congress preps to revive ‘Op Akarsh' to rope in more BRS MLAs

1 2 Hyderabad: With the Supreme Court setting a three-month deadline for the assembly speaker to decide on the disqualification of turncoat MLAs, the ruling Congress is all set to revive its 'Operation Akarsh' and go all out to rope in more BRS MLAs in a bid to escape the anti-defection law. The ruling party needs 16 more BRS legislators to merge the BRS Legislature Party (BRSLP) with the Congress Legislature Party (CLP). The BRS won 39 assembly seats in the 2023 assembly election but lost the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency in the 2024 bypoll. So far, 10 BRS legislators have joined the Congress after the assembly election. As per the anti-defection law, unless two-thirds of a party's legislators defect, the defectors are liable to be disqualified. In such cases, by-elections have to be held as legislators will have to resign after switching sides. "Many BRS MLAs are still in touch with the Congress. The party leadership kept 'Operation Akarsh' on hold due to the case pending in the Supreme Court. The party top guns will now decide on roping in more MLAs, even while taking the opinion of legal and constitutional experts for going in for an appeal to a larger bench or exploring other available alternatives," the source said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Retirees Can Potentially Minimize RMD Taxes SmartAsset Learn More Undo Meanwhile, Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud told TOI that 'Operation Akarsh' was never called off. "It has always been active. If the MLAs, MLCs, and other important leaders from other parties want to join the Congress because they are impressed with the welfare schemes of the Revanth Reddy-led govt, what is wrong in allowing them into the party? The SC directions have to be followed, and the assembly speaker will decide what to do about it," he said. Party insiders say the Congress is eyeing at least half a dozen more BRS MLAs from Greater Hyderabad alone, a move that could strengthen its position ahead of the GHMC elections. On their part, the defected BRS MLAs are depending upon the Congress leadership, especially chief minister A Revanth Reddy, for support. Ghanpur Station MLA Kadiyam Srihari, one of the defectors, said on Tuesday: "We will abide by the decision of the speaker. But the BRS has no moral right to talk about the anti-defection law. It was the BRS that started defections in Telangana. First, they merged the Telugu Desam Legislature Party into BRSLP in 2016, and later CLP in June 2019." Earlier, Patancheru legislator Gudem Mahipal Reddy, another turncoat MLA, said he is not scared of a bypoll and exuded confidence in winning again in case of a by-election. However, political observers said the task of merging the BRSLP with the CLP is more challenging compared to the mergers in the past. The BRS was on strong political ground then. The TDP had 15 MLAs, and 12 of them joined the BRS, and the Congress had 19, of which 12 joined the BRS.

Additionally, free access to education and healthcare – on par with that provided to plant employees – would also be extended to the local communities. Responding to local complaints about road damage due to heavy vehicle movement related to the power plant, he said a large number of CC roads have already been sanctioned and work has begun. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy praised the deputy CM and said under his supervision, the long-delayed Yadadri Thermal Power Project has reached its final stage.
