PC Deputy Heads: Interference by Libyan parties complicates chances for national consensus

Libya Observer4 days ago

Presidential Council (PC) Deputy Heads Mossa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi said that the intervention of certain Libyan parties has contributed to complicating the prospects for national consensus.
During their meeting with the Strategic Review Team of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the two men called for a more effective UN role in bridging viewpoints and developing a timeline roadmap leading to elections, to be discussed in the upcoming Berlin Process.
They also stressed the importance of drafting realistic plans that fit the Libyan context and strengthen the sovereignty and unity of the state, emphasizing that Libya should be a top priority on the United Nations' agenda by appointing individuals capable of understanding the complexities of the crisis and dealing with the current political deadlock.
The team, led by Daniela Kroslak, provided a comprehensive briefing on the work of its technical team tasked with assessing the mission's performance over the past years, highlighting the importance of hearing the Presidential Council's vision to realign the mission's work.
Al-Koni and Al-Lafi welcomed the team, underscoring the need to establish accountability and improve the mission's performance in line with the complexities of the current Libyan scene, avoiding the reproduction of approaches that have failed to produce sustainable solutions.
Kroslak stressed her team's keenness to take into account all perspectives and integrate them into the ongoing evaluation process, in preparation for submitting recommendations to the United Nations Secretary-General.

Mufti: Berlin Conference is a deception by Libya's enemies

Libya's Mufti, Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani, said that the third Berlin Conference, is part of the ongoing deception orchestrated by Libya's enemies. Speaking on Tanasuh TV on Wednesday, the Mufti said the countries meeting in Berlin are Western powers that control Libya's fate. He blamed participants of the Skhirat Agreement for Libya's past and present suffering. "All the evil inflicted on the Libyan people—aggression, plundering of wealth and resources, stripping of freedoms and sovereignty, prisons, arbitrary arrests, and standing with the enemy—as happened recently with the blockade of the convoy aiming to aid our brothers in Palestine—its burden lies with the figures of Skhirat who committed their act and then disowned it." He said. He questioned the outcome of the Berlin meeting, saying: "They will present us with the same production… the same figures will reappear in a new form, just like with Sarraj and the transitional governments." He asserted that 'Western countries know the right solution for Libya, but they deliberately seek to prolong the suffering and occupation.' "There is no enmity between the Americans and Russians, nor among Europeans—all of them are united in exploiting us. We face a Russian invasion brought by Haftar, Aguila Saleh, and the agents of the Zionists. We also face infiltration by regional countries through their intelligence services—all because of Berlin." The Mufti added. The Mufti called on the Libyan people to take to the streets in massive numbers to denounce what he described as a conspiracy. His remarks coincided with the third Berlin Conference, held under UN auspices and involving key international and regional players in the Libyan file, including Egypt, the UAE, the United States, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, and the African Union. The conference is not merely consultative—it is seen as an attempt to impose a new transitional roadmap, following the failure of all domestic Libyan initiatives to reach consensus on a constitutional basis and the continued deadlock in UN-led efforts to organize long-overdue elections. Aqilah Saleh discusses controversial 69 billion budget with Belqasim Haftar

The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqilah Saleh, has met with Belqasim Haftar, son of Khalifa Haftar and director of the Reconstruction Fund, to discuss the proposed budget for the fund and the development plan for 2025, 2026, and 2027, incorporating feedback from the parliamentary committee. The committee, established by the HoR, had met with Belqasim Haftar on Monday to review the budget and development plan. They agreed to document observations from MPs across various electoral districts and stressed the importance of fair distribution of development throughout Libya. Earlier, on June 2, the HoR debated a proposed 69 billion Libyan dinar budget for the Reconstruction Fund, chaired by Belqasim Haftar, covering three years with 23 billion dinars allocated annually. The session included heated exchanges but ended with an agreement to form a committee to monitor the budget. Tags: Aqilah Saleh Belgasem Haftar Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund
