PGMOL and League bosses consulted with 'stakeholders' including clubs, managers, players and fans, before agreeing the new hardline approach.

Refs will be 'encouraged' to 'identify and penalise' holding and not just when it impacts a player's ability to play the ball.
It will see just one warning given on the pitch, with further holding being penalised.
The move is a bid to drive the examples of grappling that have become too common out of the game.

All dressing rooms and managers have been given notice of the new approach, which will come into effect from this weekend.

Refs will also enforce a new approach when players go down holding their heads, with medical staff automatically ordered on for treatment and the injured player having to leave the field for the first 30 seconds when play restarts, barring goalkeepers.
And officials have been urged to ensure they punish simulation more severely as well, with a 'robust' stance being ordered by PGMOL boss Howard Webb.
The introduction of the 'captain's only' rule, aimed at preventing officials being surrounded, will also see yellow cards brandished.

But refs have been asked to only hand out a second yellow card to a player if the foul or offence deserves it, rather than any foul after a caution leading to a dismissal.

Prem chiefs will be using the new Semi-Automated Offside Technology, introduced towards the end of last season, throughout this campaign.

According to the Prem's Key Match Incident panel of former players, managers and officials, errors after VAR have been cut by HALF over the past three seasons.
While there were 35 mistaken final decisions adjudged in the 2022-23 season, that fell to just 18 last term.
The panel ruled that five on-field decisions were wrongly changed, while a further 13 incidents where Stockley Park should have intervened were missed.

Premier League: Sunderland 3 (Mayenda 61, Ballard 73, Isidor 90+2) West Ham 0 Sunderland marked their return to the Premier League in style with a comprehensive win over West Ham at the Stadium of Light. Following an eight-year absence from the top flight, the Black Cats withstood some promising attacks spearheaded by Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen in the first half and after the break it was their Championship play-off heroes who proved to be the difference. They went ahead through Eliezer Mayenda's header and Dan Ballard soon extended the advantage, nodding home into the same spot as his last-gasp winner against Coventry in the play-off semi-finals. Substitute Wilson Isidor struck in added time to wrap up three points in Sunderland's first Premier League appearance since May 2017. Sunderland have made 11 signings so far this window and seven of those new arrivals were handed their first starts, with Trai Hume, Ballard and Mayenda the sole survivors from the starting XI who beat Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final. There were two new signings making their West Ham debuts as El Hadji Malick Diouf and goalkeeper Mads Hermansen both started and new signing Callum Wilson made the bench. The Hammers looked to strike in the final stages, but Bowen's flicked header from a corner was blocked and Soucek's tame effort was held by Roefs. The Sunderland goalkeeper made a great stop to tip Wilson's deflected header from a free-kick over the bar in the 88th minute. Brighton began to drop deeper while seeking to secure breathing space on the break. Minteh blazed over following good play from Mitoma before substitute Diego Gomez almost deceived Fulham keeper Leno with a long-range effort. Seagulls winger Brajan Gruda should then have put the result beyond doubt late on. That miss looked academic but, after Verbruggen touched wide a low shot from Emile Smith Rowe, Wilson's right-wing corner flicked off the head of Lewis Dunk before being controlled and finished by Muniz at the far post in front of the delirious travelling fans.
