Omar Berrada says Man Utd have plan in place for ambitious transfer window
Chief executive Omar Berrada says Manchester United will balance 'ambition' with the need to be 'prudent' in the transfer market having been given permission to wrap up a deal for Wolves' Matheus Cunha.
The Red Devils are looking to rebuild the side after their worst top-flight season since they were relegated in 1973-74, which was compounded by last week's Europa League final loss to Tottenham in Bilbao.
That damaging defeat meant United missed out on silverware and Champions League qualification, worth an estimated £100million, and the club have wasted little time trying to improve Ruben Amorim's side.
Cunha looks set to be first through the door as the PA news agency understands Wolves granted them permission to schedule a medical and finalise a deal for the Brazil international, having met his £62.5million release clause.
It could start a busy summer in terms of incomings and outgoings at Old Trafford, with chief executive Berrada confident about United's plans.
'I can't talk about specifics, but I can say that we've been planning for many months now,' he told MUTV. 'We were ready for all the different scenarios, so now we know what we need to do.
'We have a very clear idea of where we need to invest in the squad to improve, so (technical director) Jason (Wilcox), his team, Ruben have been in talks for many months.
'Now it's a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but at the same time with ambition.'
Berrada was speaking on the first stop of United's post-season trip to Asia, which is set to bring the club around £8million.
Amorim's men began the tour with a shock 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars in hot and humid Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, with the side heading to Hong Kong for another friendly on Friday.
United's defeat in Malaysia came a week to the day since their Europa League final loss in Spain and just three days on from beating Aston Villa 2-0 in their Premier League finale at Old Trafford.
The result saw the Red Devils finish 15th, with Amorim telling fans that 'the good days are coming' as the head coach apologised for a wretched campaign during an impassioned end-of-season address.
United chief executive Berrada said: 'Ruben spoke really well on Sunday and he's right: the past is the past.
'It's important to learn. Now we need to stay together, stay united and I can only say again thank you to the fans.
'The owner has also been very supportive in this transition year and now we just need to work really hard and do everything we can to bring the club back to the top.
'I'm very excited about what's coming ahead of us. Like Ruben said, now we just need to work really hard as a unit, as a club and I'm sure the good days will be back, as he said.'

Exact code to spot when £100 Nationwide payment lands in millions of accounts within weeks – will you be better off?
NATIONWIDE customers have been told the exact code to look out for to confirm a £100 payment has landed in their accounts. The high street lende r is giving away the cash as part of its Fairer Share programme. 1 The payment goes to members who bank with Nationwide regularly. Those who have a savings account or mortgage product could also qualify. Customers can expect the cash to land in their accounts between June 18 and July 4. And there is a code that customers should look out for on their bank statements to ensure they have received the cash - it is Nationwide Fairer Share Payment. But you must have opened a main current account with Nationwide by March 31 to get your hands on the money. You would have needed to have £100 in savings or owe £100 on your mortgage by that date. You also will need to have used your account within the first three months of this year. This is the third year that Nationwide has given away free cash to customers. Last year, it paid out a total of £385million to 3.85million customers and the year before £340million to 3.4million people. Back in December, the building society's boss confirmed it would make the payment for a third time. Major bank paying out £100 to customers It's worth noting, the £100 Fairer Share payment is separate to the £50 issued to around 12million Nationwide customers between April 9 and May 14. Recently the bank has also launched a new £200 switching offer to treat customers who sign up for its new bond. Nationwide's member inclusive bond is available to sign up to for all 16 million existing members and can be opened in branch, online or via the Banking App. This is a fixed-rate savings bond available only to Nationwide members. BANKING FREEBIES Nationwide is not the only bank giving customers free cash. TSB is giving new customers who switch to the high street bank a £100 switching incentive. You get the £100 upfront but if you spend on your debit card for 20 times in the first six months you get a £15 a month cashback. Santander has launched a new switching incentive to lure in customers. As part of the deal, customers will receive £180 within 90 days of making the switch. Cusomers need to pay £1,500 into the account within 60 days. This does not have to be deposited all at once. Customers must also set up two active household direct debits on the new account. This can include your council tax, mobile phone, home phone, broadband, paid-for TV packages, water, gas and electricity bills. Co-op Bank is also paying £175 to new customers. How do I switch bank accounts? SWITCHING bank accounts is a simple process and can usually be done through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Dozens of high street banks and building societies are signed up - there's a full list on CASS' website. Under the switching service, swapping banks should take seven working days. You don't have to remember to move direct debits across when moving, as this is done for you. All you have to do is apply for the new account you want, and the new bank will tell your existing one you're moving. There are a few things you can do before switching though, including choosing your switch date and transferring any old bank statements to your new account. You should get in touch with your existing bank for any old statements. When switching current accounts, consider what other perks might come with joining a specific bank or building society. Some banks offer 0% overdrafts up to a certain limit, and others might offer better rates on savings accounts. And some banks offer free travel or mobile phone insurance with their current accounts - but these accounts might come with a monthly fee.

New Love Island host is former X Factor star who Simon Cowell made QUIT group to join rival band in brutal scenes
A NEW Love Island host is a former X Factor star who Simon Cowell made quit the group to join a rival band in brutal scenes. Just this week, Love Island Aftersun revealed two new TikTok stars are joining the ITV2 show. 5 5 5 One of which includes Ash Holme, who is best known as a content creator, but she also appeared on one of the nation's biggest talent shows in 2017. Ash had an unprecedented run on British singing extravaganza The X-Factor in 2017. She originally auditioned with her group NQ, who made it to Boot Camp before being dropped from the show. But the star pulled off a rare move when she ditched her band for a new group. The singer, who was 21 at the time, was kicked off the show but returned to join Simon Cowell 's imaginatively-named New Girl Band. NQ impressed the judges with their performance of Hey Mama before getting axed, but Simon said he wanted to bring Ash back. She looked slightly shell-shocked as she was led back on to the stage by host Dermot O'Leary after her group were cut from the show. After a quick rehearsal, Ash then performed with New Girl Band, before Simon asked her if she was willing to ditch NQ and join them instead. New Girl Band was put together by the media mogul just days earlier after all the girls were booted off the Boot Camp weeks earlier. He had once hoped they could be a female version of One Direction, but they didn't take off as he hoped. However, the group ended up getting knocked out at the Judges' Houses stage, with the contest being won by another Cowell outfit, Rak-Su. She has gained substantial popularity on TikTok since launching her account in 2020. Her rise to fame on the platform has been nothing short of phenomenal. The star's account @ash_holme has amassed an impressive 1.5million followers and a whopping 54million likes. Her ability to connect with viewers through her humour and relatable content has been a key factor in her rapid growth on the platform. Beyond her social media success, Ash has ventured into various aspects of the entertainment industry. Brand Partnerships Ash's influence extends to collaborations with global brands. She has partnered with massive companies including L'Oréal, Deliveroo and Amazon Prime. These partnerships underscore her marketability and appeal to a wide range of audiences. Impact and Influence Ash represents a new generation of entertainers who have leveraged their fame on social media platforms to build their careers. Her success on TikTok opened doors to traditional media opportunities, allowing her to expand her reach and showcase her talents to a broader audience. Her content, which often includes sketches and talking skits, resonates with viewers due to its relatability and humour. On Love Island Aftersun, Ash is set to join certified superfan Sam Thompson and former Islanders Amy Hart and Indiyah Polack. And another new face to the line-up is content creator Joe Baggs. 5 5

Bernardo Silva says ref 'doesn't know rules' after Wirtz leaves Fernandes fuming
Portugal star Bernardo Silva has slammed the referee who was in charge of their 2-1 victory over Germany in the Nations League semi-finals. Wednesday's dramatic clash at the Allianz Arena was decided by a record-breaking goal from Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo in the 68th minute, as the 2019 winners became the first country to reach two Nations League finals. Roberto Martinez's side had to come from behind after Florian Wirtz put Germany in front just after half-time. Wirtz, who's in talks to join Premier League champions Liverpool in a club-record transfer deal, headed home after an intelligent one-two with team-mate Joshua Kimmich. Portugal were incensed, though, as Germany striker Nick Woltemade was standing in an offside position and appeared to block Ruben Dias, allowing Wirtz a free header from 10 yards. Martinez received a yellow card for his protests, as did Ruben Neves. Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic was sent to the pitch-side monitor yet only needed a glance to stick to his original decision. Another point of contention was Wirtz's studs-up challenge on Bruno Fernandes. The Manchester United captain was furious after the Bayer Leverkusen star left one on him but avoided a booking. Portugal used their anger to mount a rapid comeback, as substitute Francisco Conceicao scored a dazzling solo goal to level the scores before Nuno Mendes set Ronaldo up for a simple finish five minutes later. The visitors saw out the win to book their place in Sunday's final, where they'll play France or European champions Spain. Post-match, Silva didn't let the result overshadow his feelings about the referee. Speaking to Optus Sport, the Manchester City star said: "A tough game, we expected that because they have a lot of quality. Playing at home, we knew they were going to play with a lot of intensity, with a lot of energy like they always do. Should Florian Wirtz's goal have been allowed? Let us know your verdict in the comments section. "But today we played a good game. A lot of character, a lot of intensity as well from us. Going down 1-0 is not easy in the beginning of the [second] half even if the goal is offside, even if the referee doesn't know the rules but that's another question. We're happy we were able to come back." Wirtz, 22, did eventually get booked by Vincic after an altercation with Silva in the 84th minute. The 30-year-old had the last laugh, too, as Portugal outclassed their opponents and gave themselves the chance to make history when they return to Munich for what'll be a mouth-watering final on Sunday.
