KPKT Selects Kampung Tok Kepak For MADANI Adopted Village Programme 2025

ALOR SETAR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has selected Kampung Tok Kepak in Kodiang as one of the locations for the 2025 MADANI Adopted Village Programme (KAM). In a statement, the ministry said the programme aligns with the government's efforts to narrow the development gap between rural and urban areas under the MADANI aspiration. A total of 15 high-impact projects have been planned and are underway in the village. These include five under KPKT's KAM 2025 initiative, four under the BP1 Assistance Programme, two from the Urban Community Development Programme (PPKB), two by the National Landscape Department (JLN), one by the Kedah ICU, and one by the Ministry of Education (MOE). 'These projects focus on both physical and social development, aiming to enhance the quality of life for Kampung Tok Kepak residents, especially in terms of public facilities, economic opportunities, and community empowerment,' the statement read. Among the completed projects is the demolition and reconstruction of the village community hall, a collaborative effort between the Department of Local Government (JKT) and the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council (MPKP). The upgraded facility, now known as the Kampung Tok Kepak Community Hall, was officially launched on July 19 by KPKT secretary-general Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Taib. During the event, he expressed hope that the new hall would serve as a hub for community activities and be well cared for by local residents for their shared benefit. Other projects currently in progress under the KAM initiative include road resurfacing, upgrades to the KEMAS preschool and Tok Kepak Mosque, enhancements to Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Kepak, installation of LED streetlights, landscaping works, and the construction and repair of homes for eligible residents. The total investment exceeds RM3 million. 'These efforts reflect KPKT's strong commitment to empowering rural communities through balanced, inclusive, and people-centric development,' the ministry added.

RON95 targeted subsidy rollout delayed

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 By: Nora Mahpar, FMT Text Size: The government said in June that it would implement the targeted RON95 subsidy in stages this year. Kuala Lumpur: The government has pushed back the deadline for the rollout of the RON95 targeted subsidies, initially fixed for the second half of this year. Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said more time was needed to fine-tune the mechanism to prevent leakage. Advertisement He also said that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim informed the MPs from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan of the matter when he met them recently. 'He wants to ensure that the majority of the public is not adversely impacted by current policies or those that have yet to be implemented. 'The mechanism is being fine-tuned, which is why there is a slight delay (in the rollout),' he said at a press conference. In June, finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government would implement the targeted RON95 subsidy in stages this year but did not give any specifics. On July 1, Amir said the government was working on getting petrol station operators to upgrade their systems for the RON95 subsidy rationalisation scheme to ensure that there would be no queues at the pump. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Defence white paper mid-term review to be presented to select committee soon, says Mohamed Khaled

KUALA LUMPUR: The mid-term review of the defence white paper is set to be presented to the Parliament Special Select Committee on Defence, announced Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The review, previously tabled in the Cabinet on June 25, focuses on enhancing Malaysia's self-defence capabilities. "The ministry firmly believes that self-reliant defence capability is the cornerstone of national sovereignty, security, and freedom, especially in the face of an increasingly challenging geopolitical landscape," Mohamed Khaled stated in Parliament on Monday (July 21). Responding to a query from Kamal Ashaari (PN- Kuala Krau) regarding the government's efforts in developing self-defence capabilities, Mohamed Khaled outlined the ministry's strategy, which includes developing technology, weapon systems, maintenance infrastructure, and strengthening local human capital. These efforts aim to reduce dependence on foreign powers and improve responses to threats. Key initiatives include empowering the Defence Science and Technology Research Institute (Stride) as a centre of excellence in Southeast Asia and restructuring the Malaysian Industry Council for Defence Enforcement & Security (MIDES) into the Defence Industry Strategic Council to enhance governance. The ministry is also developing a comprehensive policy for the defence sector's Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) and establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) to strengthen industrial development linkages within the local defence ecosystem. To further boost self-reliance and innovation in defence technology, the ministry is finalising the National Defence Industry Policy, set to be presented to the Cabinet in August. Mohamed Khaled added that the government is considering research and development collaborations with partner countries, such as Turkiye, in the defence sector.
