Sotheby's free Geek Week is back with a $6 million dinosaur and Martian meteorites on view
The star of the show this year is a juvenile Ceratosaurus fossil, one of only four ever found and the only juvenile of its kind. Measuring over 10 feet long with a nearly complete skull, the 150-million-year-old dino was unearthed in Wyoming in 1996 and mounted by Fossilogic for sale. Bidding has already surpassed $3.5 million and Sotheby's expects it to fetch up to $6 million.

And if prehistoric predators aren't your thing, how about a literal piece of Mars? On view is the largest known Martian meteorite on Earth—a 54-pound chunk launched into space by one of just 16 known asteroid impacts strong enough to fling debris off the Red Planet. It eventually crash-landed in the Sahara and is now estimated to sell for $2–4 million.
'That chunk had to be loose enough to break off, and then it had to get on the right trajectory to travel 140 million miles to Earth, and then it had to land in a spot where someone could find it,' said Sotheby's science and natural history vice-president Cassandra Hatton told Gothamist. 'And then we were lucky enough that someone came by who knew enough about meteorites to recognize that it wasn't just a big rock.'
Other cosmic treasures include flown Apollo medallions, a lunar checklist carried by Buzz Aldrin and the only known copy of the 1949 BINAC computer manual, considered the first computer technical manual ever written.
On the tech side, the 'Romkey' Apple-1 computer headlines the History of Science & Technology sale. Hand-built by Jobs and Wozniak in 1976, it's considered the finest working Apple-1 in existence and carries an estimate of up to $600,000. (One of Jobs' earliest business cards is also up for grabs.)
All of this nerdy goodness is free to view at Sotheby's from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (1 p.m. on Sundays). Who knew one of New York's swankiest auction houses could double as the coolest science fair in town?

Your afternoon tea sessions just got majorly elevated with a brand new garden-to-table experience at Kaarla, a sleek restaurant that's perched way up high on the 51st floor of 1-Arden. From a lemon aspen tart with thyme, and basque cheesecake with berry coulis, to an edamame hummus tart and more – every item served is made using edible plants from 1-Arden's 'food forest'. That goes for the complimentary tea as well, with choices like milky oolong with marigold, hojicha with mint and lemon myrtle, and jasmine tea with rose petals. But if you're more of a coffee person, opt for a latte, cappuccino, flat white or long black instead. Matcha lattes are also available with a $2 top-up. In line with the botanical theme, it's no coincidence that the food set-up also resembles a Japanese zen garden – complete with real florals, bamboo and moss balls arranged artfully atop a bed of white 'pebbles' (beans) alongside the pretty morsels. The freshly harvested herbs add a unique, refreshing balance to each item, and flavour-wise, we have zero complaints. However, with each item being so daintily bite-sized, portions are definitely smaller compared to other more substantial (but perhaps less well-crafted) high teas we've had. We left feeling slightly peckish still, having skipped lunch in preparation for this feast – perhaps some classic scones would be a good addition to satiate diners better. That said, the views from our window seat were unmatched – it's not every day that you get to gaze down upon the city from such a height. This garden-to-table afternoon tea at 1-Arden is a permanent offering, available only from Mondays to Fridays between 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Dua Lipa showed she was a perfect fit for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed - with an outfit change quicker than a F1 pitstop. Arriving at the event in a black leather jacket and black, ripped jean shorts and a white T-shirt, the singer switched into a striped yellow shirt and blue jeans in record-breaking time. The 29-year-old headed to West Sussex for the charity auction of a customised Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Emblazoned with her name and the German word Rennstall, which means racing team, the colourful car was designed by Ms Lipa, with all proceeds from the auction going to the Sunny Hill Foundation. The Albanian-British star set up the charity in Kosovo to support vulnerable people in the country, with a focus on arts and culture. The sale is being organised with Sotheby's, which says the car has a value 'in excess of $400,000 (£346,000)'. Ms Lipa, said to be worth £100million, has been a Porsche ambassador since 2023. But the singer, who announced her engagement to actor Callum Turner, 35, last month, has shown she's still happy to take the train. More than 200,000 car fans and families are enjoying the sold-out Goodwood Festival of Speed – which has become the nation's unofficial motor show set in a stately home garden party. The four-day automotive extravaganza takes place in the parkland grounds of Goodwood House, near Chichester, and is hosted by the Duke of Richmond – under whose stewardship it has grown massively in scale and ambition since its launch in 1993. As well as attracting a record number of champion drivers and cars from Formula One – this year enjoying its 75th anniversary – the Festival of Speed provides a launchpad for debuts from sporting, luxury, supercar and mainstream car firms including Aston Martin, with its new Vantage S and Vanquish Volante, BMW, Chevrolet and Ferrari. Fans rejoice as beloved Friends actor, 32, makes a surprising comeback
He once starred in one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time but Cole Sprouse, 32, has come a long way from his days on the Friends set. The former child star, who portrayed Ross Geller's son Ben in seven episodes of the beloved series, is now best known for his lead role in Netflix 's Riverdale. But it's another project that has fans rejoicing once again this week. Sprouse's side hustle is running a chaotic, cult-favorite Instagram account called @camera_duels, where he posts candid snaps of fans who try to secretly photograph him in public by snapping a photo of them back. The account became a viral sensation a couple of years ago but in June 2023 Sprouse stopped posting to it. 'It started because I was pissed off,' Cole previously told Wonderland magazine. 'I try to approach a lot of the strange trappings of celebrity and the culture with comedy… the actions and feelings and vibes that people put off when they're about to do something like that is so obvious and comical that it begs a duel.' The account was originally meant to shame people who tried to sneak photos without asking. But it has ironically turned into a bucket list item for fans with many admitting they now try to stage a stealth photo just to be featured. 'That was an oversight on my behalf,' Cole admitted. 'I should have seen that coming!' Now Sprouse is back posting to his Instagram. Last week he shared a rambling yet poetic takedown of a father in a Speedo snapping a photo of him at the beach. The caption included everything from commentary on the surveillance state to the unfortunate visibility of 'a 50+ shivering meatus' behind thin swimwear. Fans couldn't get enough and the post left followers fangirling over him. His account now boasts over 4.6million followers, with each post bombarded with fan messages. Sprouse played Ben for just seven episodes between 2000 and 2002 but suddenly disappeared from Friends without explanation. The real reason was because his character was written out as the show to focus more on Ross' relationship with Rachel and later, their daughter Emma. Still, despite his brief time on the show, the Friends fans have not let go. Fans have speculated that Ross may have lost custody of Ben off-screen, due to his increasingly erratic behavior. Sprouse himself has even joked about the theory, agreeing that Ross 'wasn't the most present father' during a previous GQ interview. In 2015, a Reddit user named D.F. Lovett hypothesized that Cole's character still existed but that Ross lost custody of him. 'Friends was on for ten seasons, but Ben doesn't show up in person after episode 12 of season eight,' the Reddit user posted. The post continued: 'He's only mentioned six times in the remaining 54 episodes after his last appearance. 'People like to give Ross the benefit of the doubt, wondering if perhaps he was a better father off-screen. Perhaps his children met but the audience never saw. 'The more likely answer is that he was such a deadbeat father that he completely faded away from his son's life, pretending to his family and so-called friends that he still saw a boy he barely knew.' Sprouse has also previously shared details of his time on set and admitted he had a major crush on Jennifer Aniston while filming Friends at just eight years old. 'I had a really, really hard time working with Aniston because I was so in love with her', he confessed to the New York Post. 'I was infatuated. I was speechless. I'd get all bubbly and forget my lines and go completely blank. It was difficult.' The role on Friends was Cole's first acting job where he starred without his twin brother, Dylan, because the sitcom didn't require both twins. Sprouse went on to star on Disney's The Suite Life of Zach and Cody with his brother before landing a role as Jughead in Riverdale after graduating from college. Sprouse said fans still regularly recognize him as Ben from Friends. 'Because Friends is on Netflix, there's renewed interest,' he explained in an interview with Marie Claire in 2022. 'People can call me 'Ben' on the street and I will turn around.'
