MasterChef Australia star Mandy Hall reveals shock health scare that left her hospitalised
The reality TV veteran, who appeared as a contestant on the show in 2019, recently shared a photo to social media of her lying in a hospital bed and captioned it with some alarming words.
'For the last few months, I've been dealing with some health stuff. Annoying, occasionally a bit scary. Every time I did cardio, it felt like a clamp was tightening around my chest. Spoiler, it did not get better,' Mandy began.
'By Good Friday, things escalated. I was struggling at the gym, struggling more at home. My trainer told me to stop and get checked out. I attempted to wait until after the long weekend (solid 0/10 plan).'
The mother-of-one added the condition got worse and she was forced to go to the hospital for treatment.
'Three days ago I ended up in emergency. Then early this morning, they popped a balloon stent into my heart to deal with a blockage that had been sitting there like an uninvited guest at the world's worst dinner party,' she said.
Mandy assured fans she was fine and warned them not to ignore problems with their body.
'I'm genuinely and seriously fine, and I'll be back at it by Monday. But here's the thing: listen to your body. That weird tightness, that discomfort you're brushing off? It's not always nothing,' she wrote.
'Take care of you. Don't be a hero. Go to the doctor.'
Many of Mandy's celebrity friends took to the comment section to offer words of support.
'Get well soon,' wrote fellow MasterChef veteran Kishwar Chowdhury and TV presenter Rebecca Morse chipped in: 'You poor love! Rest up.'
Mandy was a contestant on season 11 of MasterChef Australia in 2019.
The upcoming season of the long-running program sees 24 past contestants come back to win the MasterChef trophy and $250,000 in prize money.
Among the cast are MasterChef fan favourites, including season one's Andre Ursini, Sarah Todd from season 14 and Tim Bone from season 11.
And already fans of the cooking competition have emerged with a theory about who will be crowned the winner.
Viewers have gone online to speculate that the producers have spoiled the show after dropping a promo poster showing just six of the 24 contestants who will battle it out in the kitchen.
The featured contestants are lined up in the image and appear in various sizes, including Laura Sharrad who starred in seasons 6 and 12.
Also appearing in the promo are season 16's Savindri Perera and Darrsh Clarke as well as Tim Bone from season 11.
There's also Declan Cleary from season 15, while the image of fan favourite Steph De Sousa from season 11 looms largest in the poster.
Many fans felt Laura Sharrad was a shoe-in based on her appearance on the poster.
A fan Reddit started the discussion by asking, 'Do you think the winner is pictured?'
'Considering that Laura is the only pictured contestant from before season 11, do you think she wins, or do you think that the winner is not pictured?'

Terrifying 'zombie squirrels' with oozing flesh pods on their bodies invade US backyards
Grotesque squirrels covered in oozing sores have been spotted invading backyards in the US, and a common garden object is helping the animals spread their condition. The disfigured squirrels have been spotted in both the US and Canada in recent months, with social media users on both X and Reddit trying to figure out what's wrong with the rodents. The reports date back to 2023, when residents in Maine captured images of common gray squirrels covered in tumors while visiting their backyards. Witnesses have photographed these hairless growths oozing pus covering most of the animals' bodies, from their heads and eyes to their legs, feet, and genitals. While some on social media have suspected that the animals are carrying squirrel pox, a rare virus in the US that mainly affects red squirrels, others have pointed out that the illness is more likely to be squirrel fibromatosis. This condition is caused by a different virus, resulting in wart-like growths that may ooze fluid but usually heal on their own, and is more common in US gray squirrels. In either case, wildlife experts believe homeowners who put bird feeders in their yards may be unintentionally causing the virus to spread to more squirrels throughout North America. Shevenell Webb from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said: 'It's like when you get a large concentration of people. If someone is sick and it's something that spreads easily, others are going to catch it.' In November 2024, a Reddit user in the US posted an image of a squirrel covered in tumors consistent with squirrel fibromatosis Squirrel fibromatosis is caused by a virus that cannot be transmitted to people or other animals Squirrel fibromatosis may look terrifying, but it's a common skin disease among gray squirrels in the US. It's caused by the leporipoxvirus and is spread through direct contact between healthy squirrels and the lesions or saliva of infected squirrels, similar to herpes transmission in humans. The disease causes hairless growths or tumors, which can break open and leak clear fluid just like an open wound. Although the virus cannot spread to humans or other animals such as dogs or birds, Webb said people should not touch or attempt to help infected squirrels. 'I would not recommend trying to capture a squirrel that has the virus,' Webb told the Bangor Daily News. 'It is naturally occurring and will run its course in time.' To Webb's point, while the growths can look alarming, they typically heal without the need for medication and are rarely fatal. However, some severe cases of squirrel fibromatosis may affect the animal's internal organs and lead to death. While sightings of infected squirrels date back to the summer of 2023, the most recent cases were posted online less than a month ago. Residents in Canada have also captured images of infected squirrels who were covered in hairless tumors The cases are not believed to be squirrel pox, which generally infects red squirrels and is more common in the UK 'At first I thought it was eating something from my front beds, but then I realized it was on its face,' one Reddit user posted on July 31 after spotting a gray squirrel with a large tumor on its mouth. Wildlife officials noted that sightings tend to rise during the summer when more animals are out gathering food, especially from homes that put out bird feeders. 'Like a lot of people, I love watching birds,' Webb said. 'Unfortunately, you can attract multiple [squirrels] to that feeder and risk exposure if one has the virus.' The expert explained that squirrels with fibromatosis can leave their saliva on uneaten bird seed at these feeders, which healthy animals can then ingest and contract the virus. To this point, wildlife experts have not confirmed whether the new sightings are cases of fibromatosis or squirrel pox (SQPV), but there's less of a chance that squirrel pox is spreading through the US. SQPV is a systemic condition that often results in death among red squirrels, who are more vulnerable to the virus. Moreover, SQPV is more common in the UK, as there are more red squirrels in that country compared to the US and Canada. Fibromatosis tumors typically heal on their own within 2 months and do not return among gray squirrels A similar condition affecting rabbits in the Midwest has prompted many on social media to ask if it would be humane to euthanize animals spotted with these tumors. Just like the rabbits infected with cottontail papilloma virus, causing tentacle-like tumors on their heads, wildlife officials have said that people should leave squirrels with fibromatosis alone. A squirrel's immune system can clear the virus within four to eight weeks, although it may take longer for larger or secondary infections to heal. The condition does not typically come back once a squirrel contracts fibromatosis, and gray squirrels generally recover fully, meaning the horrifying growths won't be visible by the time people see that same animal next year.

‘Zombie' rabbits with tentacles have been spotted in the wild – is your pet safe?
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HORRIFYING images of 'zombie' rabbits with tentacles sprouting out of their heads have been circulating online - so is your pet bunny safe? The traumatising snaps have led to widespread panic, with many likening the infected wild rabbits to scenes from HBO zombie apocalypse hit The Last of Us. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The horrifying snaps show rabbits with 'tentacles' on their faces Credit: Reddit 2 The rabbits look like something out of a horror film Credit: Reddit Residents of Denver, Colorado caused an online frenzy when they began posting pictures of the bunnies, with one Instagram user stating "This is how the zombie virus starts." Another resident posted a clip of the rabbits to YouTube, with the caption: "We've got freaking zombie rabbits now?!" Some first thought that the images were AI, but unfortunately, the horrible disease is real. Zombie rabbits According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the wild animals are suffering from Shope Papilloma Virus, which causes horn-like black growths to protrude from their faces. However, Kara Van Hoose, a spokesperson for the agency said that they are not an unusual site. The grotesque-looking virus is mostly found in the Midwest of America and is transmitted through ticks and mosquitoes, meaning it is more prevalent during the hot summer months. It can also be passed on from rabbit to rabbit. Thankfully, the disease is relatively harmless, unless the black tentacle-like growths grow on sensitive areas such as the eyes and mouth, or prevent the rabbit from eating. Once the rabbit's immune system has fought off the virus, the growths will disappear. The virus cannot be passed on to other species, such as dogs or humans. Horror as rabbits 'with tentacles and horns growing from their heads' are spotted & public urgently warned to stay away However, people have been warned not to touch the infected rabbits. Is my pet rabbit safe? Although the disease is relatively harmless to wild bunnies, it can be dangerous for pet rabbits. Officials have warned anyone with an infected pet rabbit to take it to the vet for treatment. Thankfully, Shope Papilloma Virus does not occur in the UK and Europe, so your bunny should be safe from the disease. What Is Shope Papilloma Virus? A viral disease causing wart-like tumors on rabbits, mainly on their heads, ears, and eyelids. Spread by biting insects like mosquitoes and ticks. Tumors can be benign or turn malignant (cancerous). Commonly affects wild and pet rabbits, especially during summer and fall. Treatment usually involves surgical removal of growths. Prevention focuses on protecting rabbits from insect bites The horror-movie-esque disease is thought to have inspired the mythical jackalope, which is a rabbit with horns protruding from its head. And although unpleasant to look at, the tentacles have contributed to life-saving science, including our understanding of how viruses can be linked to cancer.

Professional cleaner reveals the 'most disgusting' item she finds in almost every home
A professional housekeeper has revealed the 'most disgusting' item they find in people's homes. Taking to Reddit, the cleaner revealed that toothbrush holder cups were 'one of the most disgusting things' they've encountered in 'almost anybody's bathroom' during 15 years cleaning homes. The seasoned cleaner admitted that the smells emerging from these cups have sometimes been more than they 'could handle', leaving them retching during work. In a Reddit post that attracted more than 700 comments, the anonymous housekeeper said: 'The smells that I've encountered from cleaning these cups for years is sometimes more than I could handle... 'But like I said I'm a professional so I just swallow that back down and continue cleaning.' The cleaner challenged those on the platform to 'go take a whiff' of their own cups and dispose of them immediately if 'it causes your soul to temporarily leave your body'. They said that people have no idea how much bacteria remains on a toothbrush after brushing, which then sinks to the bottom of the cup where it 'has a nice dark, moist place to grow and grow.' 'I have NEVER and WILL NEVER use a toothbrush cup again,' they exclaimed. They instead urged people to 'hang' their toothbrushes to allow them to drip dry, describing this approach as the 'ONLY sanitary alternative'. Many people on Reddit were disgusted by the cleaner's revelations while others shared their own cleaning tips Yet, for those reluctant to give up their toothbrush holder cups, the cleaning expert did reveal a specific stratify, which they described as 'the ONLY way to get rid of that gunk at the bottom'. They explained that it's necessary to use a brush with bristles at the top, for example, a paintbrush to scrub it 'with some kind of disinfectant or detergent.' The cleaner insisted: 'You CANNOT just swish some baking soda or bleach or whatever around at the bottom and hope that it stops the growth, it won't.' Their comments on the 'CleaningTips' Subreddit led to a slew of responses, many of which shared alternative cleaning strategies. One person remarked: 'I clean mine with denture cleaner tablets, which I have because I use them to clean my nightguard too.' Another shared their approach, adding: 'Mine is clear. I can definitely tell when it's time to clean. I throw it in the dishwasher'. A third explained that they use 'hot water and vinegar to soak it [and] then scrub.' Someone else revealed: 'Mine gets cleaned with Dawn Powerwash weekly but I get it lol.' Others were quick to air their disgust at the poor hygiene habits revealed by the cleaner. One person said: 'I'm gagging just ready this and I don't even own a toothbrush holder.' Another exclaimed: 'I could never be a housekeeper. I'd puke myself into a concussion'. While a third said bluntly: 'Why would you even clean those things? They're not part of the house.' When it comes to household smells beyond those that are produced by toothbrush holders, a mother has revealed three simple hacks to maintain a fresh and clean odour at home. Chantel Mila, from Melbourne, is known for sharing her helpful tips with her 1.5million TikTok followers and said you'll wish you knew the latest three hacks sooner. The insights are also a suitable alternative for those who wish to avoid using harsh chemicals while cleaning. First, Chantel shared a simple way to remove unwanted scratches from plates and bowls instantly. The clever mother made a paste by combining equal parts dish soap and baking soda then used a sponge to gently 'scrub away' the marks. Within seconds the white kitchen plate was rid of scratches made from cutlery. Next, to remove the musty smell from her dishwasher, Chantel emptied the appliance then scattered baking soda everywhere inside. She then ran the dishwasher on a hot cycle to remove the odours. Lastly, it may come as a surprise to some but Chantel mopped the tiles in her bathroom using shaving cream to 'neutralise odours'. In another video she's previously used shaving cream to 'buff' her bathroom mirror and shower. The insightful video has since exceeded more than 25,000 views within three days. Last year Chantel revealed her homemade formula which gets rid of mould in your shower and stops it from coming back. She creates a mould-killing recipe using just two tablespoons of dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and six-to-eight drops of tea tree oil. The mother-of-two pours all the ingredients into a dish brush and scrubs the grout in her bathroom. 'The dish brush makes cleaning so quick and easy, while the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap cut through tough grime and mould,' she said in a video. If left untreated, mould can cause respiratory problems because it produces allergens, irritants, and sometimes toxic substances. 'The hydrogen peroxide helps whiten the tiles and get rid of tough mould in your shower,' Chantel added. 'While the tea tree oil removes the mould spores and keeps them away.' The mother shared that you could use the mixture on grout, tiles, and even your shower door seal. She typically scrubs the solution everywhere and leaves it to soak for 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Clove oil is also a suitable substitute for tea tree oil when it comes to ridding your home of mould. The mother noted that it was essential to use discretion before using essential oils in homes with pets or small children because some of it could be toxic.
