Bangladesh: Yunus aide threatens India amid Pak tensions, Warns of…

Hindustan Times02-05-2025

Bangladesh provokes India once again. A retired Bangladeshi general, who is also a close aide of interim advisor with Muhammad Yunus, claimed that Bangladesh should invade and occupy India's northeastern states if India attacks Pakistan amid heightened tensions over the Pahalgam terror attack. The Yunus aide also sought for a Bangladesh-China axis to occupy the seven sisters' region. This is not the first time Bangladesh has provoked India over the north-east region.

Dip in infiltration from B'desh in last six months: Saha

1 2 3 Agartala: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Tuesday claimed there is a slight decrease in illegal immigration from Bangladesh during the past six months due to enhanced border monitoring and targeted operations in vulnerable areas previously used by illegal Bangladeshi nationals as transit points to other Indian states. During a media briefing celebrating the 11th year of Narendra Modi's govt, he dismissed claims of increased infiltration from Bangladesh, crediting the improved situation to effective security measures. Saha highlighted concerns about certain sections of the India-Bangladesh border where fencing infrastructure is inadequate or non-existent. He confirmed that these issues have been brought to the attention of the Union home ministry and security agencies. The chief minister acknowledged increased arrests of illegal immigrants during recent operations. This statement gains importance considering BJP's alliance partner TIPRA Motha's call for comprehensive action to identify and remove undocumented Bangladeshi nationals from Tripura. TIPRA Motha has initiated grassroots efforts in rural areas, directing supporters to document illegal Bangladeshi residents who obtained fraudulent Indian papers through local authorities. The party advocates for establishing detention facilities for illegal immigrants, similar to those in Assam. Discussing Modi govt's achievements, Saha said Tripura received substantial central funding during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He emphasised how the PM's initiatives and direct benefit transfer system enhanced governance transparency by eliminating intermediaries. He reported that Tripura farmers received Rs 843 crore through PM-KISAN, Rs 10 crore via PM Fasal Bima Yojana, and Rs 2,272 crore in low-interest loans through Kisan Credit Card scheme. Under Har Ghar Jal Yojana, household tap water access increased from 3% to 86%. Regarding healthcare and welfare, Ayushman Bharat settled claims worth Rs 239 crore, leading Tripura to develop its own health programme. Additionally, 8,200 small businesses received unsecured loans, while 1.46 lakh new mothers received Rs 62 crore through PM Matru Vandana Yojana. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana facilitated rooftop solar panel installation in 368 households.

Pakistan COAS Asim Munir Invited To US Army Day Celebrations On June 14: Sources

Last Updated: During this visit, the US is likely to urge Pakistan to take action against terrorist groups targeting Afghanistan and India Pakistan's chief of army staff General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah is scheduled to visit Washington DC, for the US Army Day celebrations on June 14, top intelligence sources have told CNN-News18. He will join other military leaders to commemorate the US Army's 250th anniversary. According to sources at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC, Munir is expected to arrive on June 12. During this visit, the US is likely to urge Pakistan to take action against terrorist groups targeting Afghanistan and India. The invitation appears to be linked more to the ongoing US-China rivalry and Pakistan's strategic importance than any stance against India. Due to Pakistan's close ties with China through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the US harbours concerns about Pakistan's neutrality. Given the current geopolitical climate, the US is unlikely to view Pakistan as a credible or neutral mediator, said sources. This visit has also provoked political reactions within Pakistan, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) planning protests against Munir's visit and labelling him a criminal. Pakistan is expected to seek assurances from the US regarding the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from Afghanistan. Historically, Pakistan has sought US mediation on various issues, while India firmly rejects third-party involvement. The US prefers bilateral dialogue and is unlikely to alter its stance in favour of mediation, sources said. Pakistan recognises the potential debt trap associated with China and is eager to attract investment from other global powers. The country possesses valuable resources such as lithium, copper, gold, and rare earth minerals, for which it urgently requires investment. However, Pakistan is wary of potential colonisation similar to China's approach. The visit aims to manage the strained security relationship between the US and Pakistan. Pakistan will likely pursue its agenda on mediation in Kashmir and seek investments in its mineral resources. However, tangible outcomes may be limited, as India is unlikely to accede to any external demands regarding Kashmir. First Published: June 11, 2025, 02:37 IST

‘Fentanyl Is Killing Americans': FBI Chief Says It Starts With China And Passes Through India

New Delhi, Washington D.C.: When the new boss of America's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kash Patel, sat down with Joe Rogan for an episode of his ultra-popular podcast, he did not hold back. He was neither cryptic nor vague. He dropped bombs that echo across borders. 'I literally just got off the phone with the Indian government. I said, I need your help,' he said. It was a warning wrapped in urgency. A man raised by Gujarati immigrants, now helming the FBI, calling on India – not out of courtesy but necessity. Patel painted a sharp picture. The United States is drowning in fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that killed over 74,000 Americans in 2023 alone. But the drug does not only appear on American streets. It travels. And India, he says, has found itself in the middle of a dirty global route – a China-linked fentanyl supply chain. 'They are going to places like India, and I am also doing operations in India. They are having the Mexican cartels now make this fentanyl down in Mexico still,' he revealed. "I just got off the phone with the Indian govt. I told them I need their help," FBI Director Kash Patel tells Joe Rogan on fighting America's drugs crisis — Shashank Mattoo (@MattooShashank) June 10, 2025 India is not using fentanyl, but it is being used. 'You don't hear fentanyl deaths in India. You don't really hear fentanyl deaths in England, Australia, New Zealand or Five Eyes partners in Canada. The CCP have used it as a directed approach because we are their adversary,' Patel told Rogan. That is a bold claim and a chilling one. China's not after cash, Patel said, it is after chaos. 'They are not making a ton of money off it. So it is really just for that purpose,' he insisted. That purpose? 'Why don't we go and take out generations of young men and women who might grow up to serve in the United States military or become a cop or become a teacher?' he asked. It is not just America's southern border in play anymore. The supply chain, Patel says, is morphing, heading north. 'They are flying it into Vancouver. They are taking the precursors up to Canada, manufacturing it up there and doing their global distribution routes from up there because we were being so effective down south,' he claimed. India's role is not passive anymore. The FBI is in. Patel says American agents are working directly on Indian soil, hand-in-hand with top Indian law enforcement. 'We are going to find these companies that buy it, and we are going to shut them down. We are going to sanction them. We are going to arrest them where we can. We are going to indict them in America if we can. We are going to indict them in India if we can,' he claimed. For India, this cooperation is a new test. For Patel, it is personal. His Indian heritage is not only a footnote in his resume. It is a cornerstone of his drive to forge serious ties with New Delhi. The fentanyl crisis may be global. But is it targeted? That is the question Patel raised and one that stunned many listeners. He believes the drug is not merely a public health emergency. It is a 'tier one national security threat'. And he is asking Five Eyes allies, including India, to act before it is too late. 'The fentanyl itself is not being deployed into your country, but it is there being manufactured. The CCP just has not directed it at you yet, and they know that,' Patel warned. With no public response yet from Indian or Chinese officials, Patel's words still hang in the air. But one thing is clear: India just became a frontline partner in America's war on fentanyl. And this war may be a lot more geopolitical than we thought.
