K Naomi on balancing motherhood and a thriving career in South African entertainment

TV Personality and creative K Naomi made her on-screen debut in 2012, and has since come a long way in the South African entertainment industry.
In an interview with IOL, K Naomi opened up about blending her career in content creation, motherhood, and maintaining a sense of peace in an increasingly noisy world.
'This is not just a job; it's a lifestyle.' For many, being out and about at events feels like work. For her? It's simply life.
'I'm used to it,' she says with a shrug. 'There's no real feeling behind it anymore. This is where I dedicate my time, this is where I showcase my style and the brands I work with. It's my lifestyle.

K Naomi got her start at 'Top Entertainment' magazine show and appeared in shows such as '10 Over 10' and 'All Access Mzansi'. Since her days on TV, she has become among the most followed creators in the country, and she's worked with brands such as Don Julio and L'Oreal Paris South Africa.
Whether she's curating an event, creating content, or simply showing up stylishly at an activation, K Naomi does it all with intention and a clear strategy. 'Everything I do must benefit me in some way. Otherwise, why do it?'
As a mother of two, her responsibilities extend far beyond brand campaigns and Instagram aesthetics. But she's made peace with the balancing act.
'It's like having a baby. When you've never had a baby before, you just figure it out,' she explains with a laugh. 'I try to monetize every decision I make. Even though I'm a strategist with a degree, a curator, I still make sure my choices are aligned with where I want to go.'

It's a refreshing take on navigating the ever-fluid world of content creation, especially in a space where financial security is anything but guaranteed.
In an era where everyone has an opinion about everything, from your friendships to your marriage, silence, she says, can be powerful.
'There are people that deserve my silence, and people that don't,' she says matter-of-factly. 'I've created a sacred space, my home, where I can vent, be real, say, 'Actually, she made me mad.' But when I step outside, I'm cordial.'
Her home is her haven, where she disconnects from the noise of the outside world and reconnects with herself. 'Outside is noise,' she adds. 'At home, I can breathe. That's where I can figure out my life.'
Despite public perception and the constant chatter on social media, K Naomi doesn't let the pressure sway her. 'The noise? It's like a song in the car. If you don't like it, you press skip,' she says, smiling.
That clarity, that sense of separation between public and private, is what's allowed her to thrive not just as a media personality, but as a woman in charge of her own narrative.

She also placed second in the Junior Large Group Commercial and received a coveted Golden Ticket to an elite masterclass after finishing fourth in the Junior Commercial Solo. 'It was a great experience. The highlight for me was getting Gold. After I danced for this one group, I was in pain and I had to go to the first aid room. I was backstage before going to the first aid room and I heard everyone screaming and happy. I felt really good about it, I felt like I really deserved that gold,' said Peyton. On her passion for dance she said: 'Dancing is coming into a group with people that you love and sharing a talent and sharing a hobby that you all have and having a connection with everyone you dance with.' The feat however did not come easy, with daily practices even through school holidays. She encouraged other young people, 'if you want to do well, just be confident and dance like nobody's watching'. Image: Supplied Her mother Robyn Connor said they received widespread support to make the trip possible. 'We sold baked goods, hosted quiz evenings and ran monthly raffles. Local businesses and restaurants donated vouchers and prizes. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to hold raffles every month to raise funds. 'Survé Philanthropies gave us a very generous donation of R10,000. That money was heaven-sent. We were stranded for one night. IOL had published an article about Peyton, and my contact details were included. They saw the article, called me, and about two weeks later came back with that donation. We were very lucky.'

What To Watch: Stream these Netflix shows
Shameless may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it hooks you fast and Willman's Magic Lovers' Special is equally clever and unforgettable. The big news of the week is not that there is a brand-new show on any of the streamers or on linear television. Nope. The exciting tidings are that Shameless, yes, the hillbilly festival of sex, drugs, scams and whatevers, is now available on Netflix. All 11 seasons are there. Shameless, in short, introduces viewers to the dysfunctional family headed by drunk dad Frank Gallagher. He's a dad of six, and he spends his days getting drunk and high. All this while Fiona, Phillip, Debbie, Carl, and Liam are growing up through a haze of their own demon-making years. There's an endless roll call of swindles, affairs, petty crime and, well, life on the wrong side of the tracks. Literally. It's Chicago, it's poverty, it's life's gigantic hustle. The show wrapped in 2021, and it used to be available on Dstv, some of it, anyway. Because somewhere during the pandemic, Shameless just vanished. If memory serves, there were about three seasons that went missing in action. But then again, during Covid, everyone suffered from a Frank Gallagher short-term memory challenge, anyway, as the fog of roast chicken bans, tobacco and booze denials had everyone shivering in their takkies. Shameless is not everyone's cup of tea Shameless is not everyone's cup of tea, but it is, at the same time. The show takes a few moments to get into, but then you are hooked. It also hasn't aged, and it feels as relevant and entertaining today as it did more than a decade ago when William G Macy first became Gallagher. The casting was superb, the performances exceptional and the ridiculousness of the situations the family find themselves in, well, as crazy as before. It is an absolute must-watch, and rinse, repeat, and then some if you've seen it all before. Also Read: Leanne Manas: A South African TV legend Sticking with Netflix, the Justin Willman Magic Lover's Special is an hour-long, brilliant, fantastic performance that's as unforgettable as it is clever. Wilman is a magician and illusionist, and if you have not watched his street magic shows on the streamer yet, it's about time you did. Magic Lovers' Special sees Willman on stage in an intimate theatre and, at first, what you see is what you get. And after the first 15 minutes or so, well, it starts feeling somewhat like a school concert featuring a travelling magic and puppet show. After watching so many of Willman's street magic specials, disappointment starts creeping in fast, because trick after trick starts feeling somewhat rudderless and nonsensically boring. Willman's magic is incredible But that is just an illusion. Because if you press on through to the 30-minute marker, then to the 45-minute hand on the clock, well, it becomes fascinating. And that is, because the sum of the collective amounts to a much larger illusion, and Willman's just been playing cat and mouse with his audience, both live and at home. What makes Willman different to the likes of David Blaine and David Copperfield is that he takes magic, and the magic of magic, to the people. He's part of the audience as much as he is the ringmaster. His street magic shows are engaging, and you never want the end credits to roll. Turns out, the hour-long Magic Lover's Special is the same, because he plays everyone. Where Blain and Copperfield are producers, Willman is a performer and accessible. He gives of himself, and that's special. Magic Lovers is Willman at his best. He is funny, warm, and the mini tricks he shares with the audience build up to a grand finale that's as astounding as it is breathtakingly clever. When you get tired of Shameless after binging a few seasons, break it up with Willman, because he's proven yet again why he deserves to be given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Drake reveals city where son Adonis was conceived
During a recent performance in Amsterdam, the acclaimed rapper Drake, 38, opened up to his fans about a personal connection he has with the city. The rapper revealed that the city has a special place in his heart. It turns out that Amsterdam is the 'special place' where his son Adonis was conceived about seven years ago. Drake's journey to fatherhood was anything but smooth. His ex, Sophie Brussaux, welcomed their son, Adonis, in October 2017. Though the rapper expressed doubts regarding the paternity, he ultimately came around and confirmed his paternity in his song ' Emotionless .' In his lyrics, he shared that he wasn't hiding his kid from the world, but hiding the world from his kid. Drake later revealed that his relationship with his ex, a former adult film star, was complicated. On HBO 's The Shop , the rapper shared the following: I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, we've had our moments. I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don't have any desire for him to not love his mother. I don't ever want the world to be angry at his mother. The rapper went on to say: We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible. Now, I'm just really excited to be a great father. Today it appears that Drake is both a present and significant figure in his son's life. He's been spotted attending NBA games with his son, throwing his son cute and elaborate themed parties, and posting heartfelt tributes to his son on his Instagram page. During his show in Amsterdam on 30 July 2025, Drake expressed his deep affection for the city. He revealed that the city holds a unique significance for him. The rapper revealed that Amsterdam is where his son Adonis was conceived. Drake shared the following while onstage: I was just saying backstage, I was saying that this is the place. A very special place in my heart. Because this is where my son was conceived. So this is a big show for me, you know. There would be no Adonis if there wasn't Amsterdam, so shoutout to y'all. Fans were touched by the tribute to both Adonis and the city of Amsterdam. Drake went on to provide a special performance for his audience in Amsterdam, showcasing more songs from his catalog and staying on longer.
