Gurindervir Singh's new 100m time of 10.20s in March at the Indian Grand Prix was followed-up by Animesh Kujur's 20.40s in 200m in April at the Federation Cup. The two men then teamed-up with Manikanta Hoblidar and Amlan Borgohain last week at the National Open Relay Carnival to shatter the 15-year-old 4x100m relay record by clocking 38.69s.

Animesh Kujur (Image via X/@RFYouthSports) NEW DELHI: Star sprinter Animesh Kujur is looking to perform at his optimum level in front of the home crowd this weekend at the World Continental Tour Bronze meet in Bhubaneswar — a qualifying event for the forthcoming World athletics championships to be held in Tokyo from Sept 13-21. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Kujur, 22, has a bright chance to qualify for the Worlds. His consistent performances over the last four months have hugely enhanced his global ranking. His season and personal best of 20.32 seconds in the 200m is the national record. Kujur, who represents Odisha in the domestic competition, has one good chance to further lower his national record on Sunday. 'I am fit, focused and looking forward to the Continental Tour event. I will look to retain my form and go for a new personal best,' he said on Wednesday. Poll Do you think Animesh Kujur will break his personal best in the upcoming meet? Yes, definitely! No, he might not. Maybe, it depends on the conditions. The one-day global competition at the Kalinga stadium on Aug 10 will provide a good opportunity to earn valuable global points. The event carries a total prize money of $25,000. According to Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Bahadur Singh Sagoo, the response to the event has been overwhelming with athletes from more than 15 countries confirming participation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Batu Agung: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo A strong home team of more than 90 athletes will showcase their potential at the Continental Tour meet. Apart from Kujur, middle distance runner Mohammad Afsal is among a core group of athletes who will be in action. Promising javelin thrower Sachin Yadav will look to break the 86m barrier. Kujur said he gained valuable European exposure recently, which will give him an advantage over others. 'The experience has truly changed my competitive mindset. I have been working hard on refining my technique and building strength under my coach Martin Owens. I am feeling sharp,' he added. As per World Athletics guidelines, the number of entries for men's 200m will be 48 at the Tokyo Worlds. The qualification standard is 20.16s. The number of athletes making the grade through entry standard will be 28. The remaining 20 will come up through the world ranking quota. On the road to Tokyo, Kujur's current world standing is 41 through the ranking quota. All he needs to do is maintain his world ranking before the Aug 24 deadline, which will make him a certainty in Japan. More than 10 Indian athletes have already made the cut, including Neeraj Chopra. ISL champion Mohun Bagan unlikely to attend meeting with AIFF, clubs; East Bengal, FC Goa probable attendees

Indian Super League (ISL) champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant is unlikely to attend the meeting scheduled with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and other clubs on August 7. Sources inside the club have denied receiving any invitation for the meeting and maintained that if one were to arrive, Bagan's presence in the national capital for the meeting on Thursday is improbable. 'The club knows that it is a deadlock situation where a solution will come only after the Supreme Court's judgement. In such a scenario, it becomes almost futile to have discussions without any way forward,' a source privy to the developments told Sportstar. Meanwhile, East Bengal, the other Kolkata giant, has taken the opposite route, expressing eagerness to discuss with the Federation's top brass and clubs. ALSO READ: Bengaluru FC indefinitely suspends player and staff salaries amid ISL uncertainty 'We received the letter today, and we are eager to attend. We are discussing with the higher authority at the club to come to a conclusion,' Debabrata Sarkar, East Bengal's club official, said. The future of the ISL remains uncertain after the Football Sports Development Limited—the league's organiser—and the AIFF failed to reach an agreement on the Master Rights Agreement. With the Supreme Court stalling further negotiations until it rules on the AIFF constitution, most clubs have been left without any league football. As a result, some franchises have taken contingency measures—ranging from temporarily suspending operations (Bengaluru FC) to offering short-term player contracts (Jamshedpur FC). The meeting on Thursday will primarily address this concern, with possible discussions on hosting the Super Cup later this year as a stopgap measure until the Supreme Court reaches a decision—a way to keep the clubs operational. ALSO READ: AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers: India to host matches in November The Super Cup is typically held as the final tournament of the season, but there have previously been talks about preponing it and even replacing it with the Federation Cup. 'The Super Cup continues as planned, and its scheduling will depend on the finalised league (ISL) calendar,' Kalyan Chaubey, the AIFF president, had earlier told Sportstar in an interview. Only two clubs have confirmed competitive fixtures after the Durand Cup in a window — September to December — that typically served as the slot for the ISL: Mohun Bagan and FC Goa. Bagan, having won the ISL Shield last season, qualified for the group stages of the AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2) and has games planned at least from September to December. The Gaurs, however, will be a part of the meeting, through their Director of Football, Ravi Puskur.
