New Bergerac series pays homage to original, star says
He said: "One big difference about this new version of Bergerac is that we have one big case that Jim investigates across all six episodes, instead of it being a case a week like the original."It's great that we get to follow this huge journey, not only Jim's emotional rollercoaster, but also this gripping, edge of your seat, criminal investigation."John Nettles - the original Jim Bergerac - said he was offered a cameo role but turned it down. The original BBC series, created by Robert Banks Stewart, ran for nine series between 1981 and 1991.
Scenes for the season were shot in Jersey, showcasing some of its coastal locations.Moloney said the locations created "natural tension by being surrounded by the sea".He said: "There are huge, vast, windswept beaches that, on a rainy day, look dark, brooding, foreboding and dangerous. "Within a 20-minute drive, you can be in the city or an immense countryside full of natural beauty. It's incredible."
Moloney said he particularly enjoyed filming at the beaches in the west of the island. He said: "I loved filming in the gorgeous St Brelade's Bay, where we lucked out with some lovely August weather and we could swim at lunchtime and have ice cream."We had another great day on Gorey pier, and in the Driftwood Café on Archirondel Beach, I loved that place."The government, which committed £1.2m to the reboot, said it hoped the series would boost tourism in the island.Moloney added: "I think fans of the original series will love seeing Jersey back on their screens."
Zoë Wanamaker, who plays Charlie Hungerford, said she could "see why people love it in Jersey".She said: "The buildings are gorgeous, and I found out that a lot of them were constructed in the same way as Devon was built on hills in the 1800s. "I also got to visit St Brelade's Bay Hotel, which is right next to another stunning beach - it was a busy summer's day when we were there, and I loved seeing so many families spending time in the sun."Wanamaker said she had "many friends" who had featured in the original and that the new series was "an emotional, challenging ride".
Writer Tom Whithouse said Jersey and Bergerac were "utterly indivisible"."If you were setting it anywhere else it would have to be a different show. What is interesting about it is that it's a fascinating, strange, incredibly beautiful and very welcoming island," he said.Whithouse said he hoped fans would enjoy the remake. He said: "We've taken the fundamental elements from the original show - the rich John Nettles version of the character had a complexity and a darkness to him."He was always in the tradition of the maverick cop who found himself at odds with the system around him and found that frustrating, because underneath there was a pure drive to do his job and do it well."
'Distinctive feel'
Executive producer Clare Alan said in August that Jersey was "a character within the series".Director Colm McCarthy said keeping the show based in Jersey made sense: "Jersey, both as a location and a character in the story are a big part of what gives Bergerac its distinctive feel."It's very near to France, so it has this different feel to anywhere else in the UK, it's got a luxurious quality to it."But also, people come with their own baggage about the ideas of Jersey... all of those different facets give it a place, a feeling that is familiar because it's still British to a British television audience."

Strictly Come Dancing's Nadiya Bychkova shares health update after hospitalisation
Strictly pro Nadiya Bychkova shared earlier this week that she had ended up in hospital amid rehearsals for the BBC show's return and she's since issued an update to fans Professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova has shared an update after ending up in hospital amid Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals. She previously revealed that she had landed on her back in a fall during a training session this week. It was announced on Tuesday that Nadiya, 35, had been in rehearsals in London for the new series of the BBC show that afternoon when she injured herself. Then, yesterday, she told fans that she'd got "the all-clear" at hospital and assured that she will be back on the dancefloor "soon". The pro has now issued another update ahead of returning to rehearsals for the show, which is expected to launch next month. It comes after a Strictly Come Dancing star pulls out of show as he makes career announcement. Nadiya took to Instagram this evening with a message for her followers on the platform. She expressed gratitude for the support she's received this week and revealed in the post that she will be back on the dancefloor tomorrow. She wrote: "Hi everyone! I've had so many kind messages over the past 48 hours - thank you for your love and support. So many questions too so I just wanted to let you know that I had another scan today - just to check things over - and some more physio from the Strictly team and I'll be back on that dancefloor tomorrow." Nadiya concluded by saying that she's looking forward to the new series. She wrote in her statement earlier: "I feel a lot more like myself today, can't wait to be back with my [Strictly] family and looking forward for the new series." Earlier this week, a source revealed to the Mirror that Nadiya had injured herself during rehearsals. They said: "It looked pretty nasty and no-one was taking any chances. The Strictly crew rushed into action and she was stretchered out." A source close to Strictly said: "As a precaution, following a fall during rehearsals, Nadiya was taken to hospital for checks and is receiving full support from medical and welfare teams. Rehearsals continue and the Strictly team are in close contact with Nadiya." The following day, Nadiya shared details about the incident. Alongside a photo of herself lying in a hospital bed, she wrote yesterday: "Well… where do I start? What a 24 hours! Thank you so much for all the messages, love and support. "I just wanted you to know that I am ok. I had a fall in training yesterday and landed on my back. I was really worried for a while and I was so thankful to the Strictly family and medical team who really looked after me. The staff at the hospital were so kind and caring." She added: "I'm smiling in the picture but it was really scary and there were a few tears as I had to lie still for hours but I was given the all-clear after an x-ray and allowed to go home." Nadiya then told her followers: "I've got some physio today but I will be back on that dance floor soon and I'll be ready to shine and sparkle in the new series of the biggest show on TV. I can't wait for you to see it. Keep dancing!"

Destination X thrown into chaos as police interrupts next episode of BBC show
Destination X fans were left in stitches as the BBC reality competition is thrown into chaos BBC's fresh globetrotting reality series Destination X descended into mayhem after Italian authorities disrupted production. Fronted by Welsh comedian Rob Brydon, the programme follows 10 contestants on an epic European journey aboard a coach with tinted windows, visiting stunning but enigmatic destinations. During each episode, participants face trials to secure hints that might assist them in solving one crucial puzzle: precisely where on Earth have they landed? Competitors build partnerships and feuds throughout their quest, all vying for a substantial monetary reward. At the conclusion of Thursday's episode (August 14) of the programme, audiences received a preview of the forthcoming instalment which spiralled into disorder when local authorities disrupted shooting, reports the Express. As the group neared a border checkpoint, Italian officers seemed to stop the coach, declaring "you have no permit". It was then that BBC production staff informed the team: "Just bear with us please, we're having some issues with local authorities". Police subsequently enquired: "How many people on the bus?" before a crew member was spotted conversing with them prior to yelling: "We need to find the paperwork now". It wasn't long before supporters flocked to X - previously Twitter - to voice their theories online. One viewer wrote: "Not the police getting involved, my word" whilst another quipped: "The next location is Venice jail [laughing emoji]" as a third added: "Messy TV at its finest [cry-laughing emoji]." However, some viewers were sceptical about the police intervention. One viewer scoffed: "Not falling for that! [cry-laughing emoji]" while another chimed in with: "Not real police I reckon." A third viewer noted: "That police happened on the US version too" and a fourth quipped: "Yeah sure there are cameras everywhere and the Italian police would definitely allow it to be filmed as they raid the bus." Executive producer Dan Adamson previously told the Mirror: "We crossed a lot of borders and there was always a chance that we were going to have officials trying to board the bus, and so we had to have plan Bs, which we had fake uniforms that we would then do a second boarding of the bus to try and pretend it was just part of the room.' The dramatic twist followed an episode that left fans feeling short-changed when Rob announced that no contestants would be leaving the reality show that night. Viewers quickly took to social media to vent their frustration. One disgruntled fan blasted: "What an absolute waste of an episode" and another concurred: "What an absolutely, pointless, waste of time this part of the show has been. Honestly don't see any point to it other than filler." Another viewer agreed, stating: "So if you skip this episode apart from the first five minutes you wouldn't miss any of the game process" while a third lamented: "This format is nonsense? Poor man's Traitors." Destination X is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Destination X viewers 'baffled' as they spot obvious clue contestants missed
Destination X fans were 'baffled' that players missed a huge clue (Image: BBC) Viewers were left baffled at the start of tonight's Destination X episode, as it was confirmed that the contestants were currently in Venice. But fans don't understand how they missed a huge clue that would've given the location away. Last night, contestants were left on a huge cliffhanger, when Josh was given the opportunity to sabotage one player, and move their X back 250km from the point they had guessed. Josh opted to sabotage Nick, but to his dismay, it was actually Ashvin whose pin was the furthest away, despite Nick having been sabotaged. In a tense moment, Rob Brydon revealed the bottom two had been separated by just 600m. After being evicted Ash joked: "Oh, that makes sense!" When he exited the coach, Ash realised the coach was floating on a platform on water. However, in a twist, the contestants were also shown where they were, which left them open mouthed in shock. As they looked out the window, they realised the coach was floating on the Venice water. "This is the first time we've been sure where we are," Darren said, as the team congratulated Saskia for being "spot on." We're only two weeks away from the final (Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/TwoFour) However, Claire wasn't best pleased as she told the camera the team had lied to her, and withheld information from her. "Nobody mentioned Venice to me, or to Ash or to Judith," she explained. Fans however, were left baffled that there was one huge clue the contestants didn't spot which would've clearly given the destination away. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one penned: "The coach on a floating island is crazy - how did they not feel the water?" while another wrote: "So they didn't feel the rocking?" Viewers can also play along at home, but of course, they didn't have the feeling of the water motion like the contestants may have - although it doesn't seem as if any of them clocked on to the 'huge clue'. With just six players left, it's not long until the final, where fans will see which player takes home the huge prize fund of £10,000. The final is set to air on August 28 at 9pm - but who will take home the crown? Like this story?
