Father's Day weather forecast 2025: Rain, heat, and cool downs —What to expect and how to plan your celebration

Time of India14-06-2025
As families across the United States prepare to celebrate
Father's Day
, shifting weather patterns are expected to disrupt outdoor plans in several regions. From isolated flooding in the mid-Atlantic to sweltering temperatures in the Southwest, a mixed bag of conditions will greet Americans this weekend.
Mid-Atlantic Braces for Unsettled Skies
The mid-Atlantic states, stretching from Pennsylvania to Georgia, are under close observation as forecasters warn of intermittent heavy rainfall, scattered thunderstorms, and elevated humidity. The FOX Forecast Center has flagged Virginia as a key area of concern with an isolated risk of flash flooding, though meteorologists emphasize that the broader threat is one of inconvenience, not disaster.
'Virginia is really the only area where urgency needs to be heightened,' said FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin. Rainfall is projected to reach 1–2 inches across a broad swath of the East, with some areas experiencing higher amounts under strong storm cells.

Daytime highs in the 80s and 90s, coupled with dew points climbing into the 60s and 70s, will fuel storm development across the region. Isolated severe storms may deliver hail and damaging wind gusts, while flash flooding could occur in spots hit by repeated storm activity.
Rainy Records and Persistent Storm Threats
Persistent wet weather continues to set records in parts of the Northeast. Syracuse, New York, is expected to mark its 30th consecutive rainy weekend, while Burlington, Vermont, faces its 26th. According to the FOX Forecast Center, the last dry weekend in Burlington occurred back in mid-December 2024.
Live Events
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the Ohio Valley and Northeast on one or both weekend days. However, forecasters caution that not every location will be impacted equally. Those venturing outdoors for Father's Day festivities are advised to keep an indoor contingency plan in place and monitor for lightning.
Impact on Events and Sports
Father's Day celebrations may intersect with scheduled sporting events that are vulnerable to weather disruptions. The U.S. Open golf championship, currently underway outside Pittsburgh, could face delays due to rain. Additionally, several Major League Baseball games may be affected, including:
Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals
Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore Orioles
Toronto Blue Jays at Philadelphia Phillies
Tampa Bay Rays at New York Mets
Colorado Rockies at Atlanta Braves
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox
Heat Wave Intensifies Across the West
While the East wrestles with rainfall, the Southwest is experiencing extreme heat. Phoenix is expected to top 110°F, while cities like Albuquerque and Salt Lake City will see temperatures in the upper 90s. Denver is forecast to hit the lower 90s, nearly 10 degrees above seasonal norms.
The South will remain seasonally warm, with highs in the 80s and low 90s, accompanied by oppressive humidity. Hydration and shade are advised for those planning outdoor gatherings.
Cooler Than Usual for the Northeast
Contrasting sharply with the West, the Northeast will experience cooler-than-average conditions. Highs are expected to remain in the 60s and low 70s, making beach and pool plans less appealing. Similarly, parts of the Great Lakes and upper Midwest will remain mild until slightly warmer conditions return by Sunday.
As Americans prepare to honor fathers this weekend, weather variability will play a decisive role in shaping how celebrations unfold. Whether seeking sun or shelter, staying informed will be key to navigating the elements during this year's
Father's Day
weekend.
FAQs
How will the weather impact outdoor Father's Day events?

Will sports events be affected by the weather?
Yes. Rain may delay or postpone several MLB games and potentially disrupt the U.S. Open Golf Championship outside Pittsburgh. If you're attending in person, keep an eye on weather alerts.

Idol makers in Hyderabad hope for turnaround in weather as sales fail to take off

1 2 3 4 5 6 Hyderabad: With Vinayaka Chavithi just a week away, idol makers and vendors across Hyderabad are anxiously hoping for a turnaround in the weather as sales remain sluggish owing to continuous rains over the past few days. Dhoolpet, the city's biggest manufacturing hub of Ganesha idols, wore a quiet and unhurried look on Wednesday — a far cry from its busy, bustling self this time of the year. The usual festive shopper crowds were conspicuously missing this time, with artisans and vendors pointing out that many customers who had arrived to buy idols chose to return empty-handed, not wanting to wade through the slushy, waterlogged lanes leading to the stalls. "My wife and I planned to go festive shopping over the weekend, but the rains forced us to defer our plans. As of now we're breaking up our shopping into small instalments so that we do not get caught in the rains," Naresh Narayan, a resident of Attapur, told TOI. "These idols are getting damaged due to moisture, further adding to our losses," Ramesh T, an idol maker in Dhoolpet, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "This is the time when sales pick up, but this year's rains have ruined everything. Buyers are not coming in large numbers, and even when they do, they hesitate to walk through the muddy streets." Apart from Dhoolpet, markets in other parts of the city have also reported dull sales. Vendors said enquiries were trickling in, but purchases were fewer than expected. "Families usually book their idols by now. This time many are yet to do so, as they're possibly waiting for the rains to let up. We are hoping that the last three to four days before the festival will bring better business," said Kiran Kumar, a vendor in Balanagar. Adding to their woes is the rise in input costs. Artisans said clay and transport expenses have gone up this year, forcing them to increase prices. But many customers, struggling with inflation themselves, are bargaining harder or postponing their purchases. "The cost of making idols shot up by at least 20%, but customers are unwilling to pay more. With rains keeping them away, the situation is dicey," said Virat, who owns an idol making store in Dhoolpet. Despite the gloomy start, artisans are hopeful of a last-minute rush of shoppers. "Experience tells us that Hyderabadis prefer last-minute shopping, and the three days leading up to the festival often bring in a surge. People will come eventually, even if it's late. But whether we can recover our investments fully this year is the question," added Virat. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Soyabean farmers heave sigh of relief as recent rain boosts cultivation in region

Indore: Recent rainfall in Indore region has brought much-needed relief to farmers, who have been anxiously awaiting showers to support the growth of kharif crops, particularly soyabean. After a prolonged dry spell raised concerns over possible infestations in the standing crops, the rain has been welcomed as a saviour for the beleaguered farmers. The soyabean crop in Madhya Pradesh, the leading soyabean-producing state in India, is currently in its critical development stage, being approximately 60-65 days old. Farmers had been worried about the dry conditions impacting their yield. Sharing his relief, a local farmer Dinesh Patidar said, "Rain has come at the right time. Many farmers have suffered losses due to the dry spell, but the recent rain has boosted soyabean crops." Most farmers in the state have sown varieties of soyabean that take around 90-95 days to mature. So, just about 30-35 days are left for harvest. Another farmer, Dilip Mukati from Indore said, "Soyabean crop is now out of danger due to recent rain. If rain would not have come then we would have lost our crop." Though downpour has boosted growth of soyabean crop, the overall area under soyabean cultivation this season is expected to decline due to a reported shift towards maize cultivation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo According to a survey released by the Soybean Processors Association of India, the acreage under soyabean in Madhya Pradesh is projected to drop more than 6 percent this season, decreasing to 48.6 lakh hectare from 52 lakh hectare last year. Nationwide, soyabean acreage is expected to drop by 2.63 percent to 115 lakh hectare, compared to 118 lakh hectare in the previous season. Several districts, including Ashoknagar, Guna, Harda, Betul, Khandwa and Khargone, have reported a decline in sowing areas compared to last year, raising further concern among agricultural authorities. Soyabean is a major kharif crop in Madhya Pradesh, with the state farm department data indicating plans for approximately 10 lakh hectare to be dedicated to soyabean cultivation this kharif season. Last season, 9.85 lakh hectare was recorded for soyabean cultivation in Indore division alone. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Ludhiana MC to hire private firm to maintain its all-weather swimming pool.

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC), before starting its new indoor all-weather pool, is in the process of hiring a private firm to run the pool for the public. The MC is to propose a monthly fee for the same. This all-weather pool will be open throughout the year, whereas the normal MC pool closes in October. The Olympic-size (in terms of length and width) indoor swimming pool has been established near Rakh Bagh under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 5.82 crore. The officials claimed it was not possible for them to handle the maintenance of the pool due to a shortage of staff, but the fee structure would be decided by them to avoid overcharging the public. The sources revealed that officials are planning to charge Rs 3,000 monthly from people, along with a Rs 1,000 fee as coaching charges if anybody wants to learn swimming. According to the officials, cutting-edge technology has been installed at the all-weather swimming pool. A filtration plant has been installed to keep the water clean, and modern machinery/plant has been installed to maintain water temperature during all weather conditions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The advanced technology and design allow year-round swimming regardless of external weather conditions. The officials shared that the length of the pool is 25 metres and the width is 12.5 metres, similar to an Olympic-size swimming pool. The depth of the five-lane pool ranges from 4.5 feet to 6 feet. This all-weather pool will cater to a wider audience, offering an enhanced recreational space for people of all ages. Measures have also been taken to ensure the safety of swimmers. MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said the all-weather pool was ready and the civic body would soon open registration for the residents. It is a modern facility, and steps were also being taken for its proper maintenance, he added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
