Merab Dvalishvili is keeping his word of being an extremely active champion when he goes for his third defense of 2025 against Cory Sandhagen in the UFC 320 co-main event.
Merab Dvalishvili vs. Cory Sandhagen preview
Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) will attempt to become just the eighth champion in company history to record three title defenses in a calendar year as he pursues a 14th consecutive octagon victory. After winning the belt from Sean O'Malley in September, "The Machine" has defeated Umar Nurmagomedov by unanimous decision in January and then tapped out O'Malley in a their June rematch.
Sandhagen (18-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) has no intention of being fodder for Dvalishvili's historic year, however, and looks to make the most of a timely championship opportunity after solidifying a title shot with a injury TKO finish of Deiveson Figueiredo in May. He has won four of his past five overall, with the lone blemish coming against Nurmagomedov.
Magomed Merab Dvalishvili vs. Cory Sandhagen odds
According to DraftKings, champion Dvalishvili is a heavy -380 favorite to retain his title against first-time challenger Sandhagen, who's a +300 underdog.

Demetrious Johnson defends Khamzat Chimaev: 'Don't watch UFC' if you don't like his style

Demetrious Johnson has a simple solution for those who didn't enjoy Khamzat Chimaev's UFC 319 title win. Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) dominated Dricus Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) on the ground en route to a unanimous decision win in Saturday's main event at United Center in Chicago. Chimaev had over 21 minutes of control time on Du Plessis, and was showered with boos from the fans several times throughout the fight. Johnson expects better from the fans. "If you guys don't want to watch grappling and wrestling and jiu-jitsu, don't watch UFC," Johnson said on his YouTube channel. "Go watch ONE Championship, go watch Lion Fighting, go watch Glory, go watch kickboxing, go watch muay Thai, right? It's very simple. You guys are complaining about something that's a very simple problem to fix. "For example, let's say Khamzat's about to fight again, you don't want to watch his style, all you've got to do is go like this, you see this button right here? It's called 'off'OFF' button. You don't have to see Khamzat wrestle. It's a very simple problem to fix. You guys are making it a bigger deal than it is." Chimaev has various options for his first title defense from Reinier de Ridder, to Anthony Hernandez, to the winner of the Sept. 6 headliner between Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho. Whoever is next, Johnson says they're in for a long night if they can't handle Chimaev's grappling prowess. "I honestly thought Khamzat was going to be able to finish DDP if he was able to take DDP down, but I also thought DDP was going to do a better job about defending the takedown and he wasn't able to stop the takedown," Johnson said. "That was the story of that fight. So moving forward, whoever fights Khamzat, they need to decide. "Like, (Nassourdine) Imavov or (Caio) Borralho – they fight Sept. 6. Whoever wins that fight, if they do not come with a wrestling defense or a good jiu-jitsu attacking style like going after the legs, elevating Khamzat, they're going to lose. I feel totally comfortable saying that. They're going to lose – because Khamzat does not want to stand. He wants to show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot. So if those guys don't have a ground game or have an answer for his wrestling, it's going to be the same exact thing that happened to DDP."

‘Casual' fans whining about Khamzat's ‘boring' win over Dricus du Plessis told ‘don't watch UFC'

Khamzat Chimaev captured the middleweight crown by dominating Dricus du Plessis atop the UFC 319 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card last weekend in Chicago, a five-round blowout that saw 'Borz' land 529 total strikes, a new single-fight UFC record. But it seemed bloodthirsty fight fans were underwhelmed by Chimaev's wrestle-heavy offense, which drew mixed reviews from the combat sports community. 'Anyone that says it's a boring fight is a casual,' former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, said on his MMArcade podcast. 'If you're a fan of the sport and you're not fascinated by Chimaev's ability to control someone as dogged as Dricus, who's gotten out of things time and time again, who physically never gasses, super strong, has cardio for days, if you're not fascinated by such one-sided domination, then you have to be a casual. You never see this level at a championship fight, this level of control. We just saw someone get crucifixed for 15 minutes. How can you be a fan of the sport and not think, 'wow, that's crazy?'' So much for all those cardio issues. 'If you guys don't wanna watch grappling and wrestling and jiu-jitsu, don't watch UFC,' former UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson, said on his streaming channel. 'You guys are complaining about something that is a very simple problem to fix. For example, let's say Khamzat is about to fight again, and you don't want to watch his style. All you have to do is like this: You see this button right here? It's called the 'off button.' You don't have to see Khamzat wrestle. It's a very simple problem to fix. You guys are making it a bigger deal than it is.' If you don't want Chimaev then you might miss this upcoming PPV card. No word yet on when or where Chimaev will make his first title defense but the newly-minted middleweight champion already has a queue of hungry contenders waiting for their chance to pull the sword from the proverbial stone. Hopefully 'Borz' has moved past his lingering illnesses and can make good on the opportunity to compete again before the end of the year. For more UFC 319 results and highlights click here.

Joe Rogan: Dricus Du Plessis faces 'tall task' bridging gap with Khamzat Chimaev

Joe Rogan believes Khamzat Chimaev showed he was levels above Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319. Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) swarmed, stifled and out-grappled Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) en route to a lopsided decision win in Saturday's main event at United Center in Chicago. Du Plessis' head coach, Morne Visser, is eager to right the wrongs and dominate Chimaev in a potential rematch, but after what he saw, Rogan doesn't see it as a possibility. "I mean, for Dricus to come back from that and bridge the gap between him and Khamzat? That is a tall task," Rogan said post UFC 319. "It's a tall task because that kind of dominance, that kind of grappling dominance, was not just a level. It was multiple levels, and it just didn't seem like he had any answer for that. I don't know who he brought in to train with him, but clearly he didn't bring in anybody that had that kind of skill." So who can stop Chimaev? Rogan sees one particular middleweight contender having a chance. "Reinier de Ridder in particular," Rogan said. "Given his ability to grapple on the ground and also his ability to land shots standing, particularly that knee he lands. Toughness, experience, he throws those combinations with that long lead-in knee. He's interesting."
