Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt said that the Bundesliga relegation/promotion play-off against SV Elversberg is not about "preventing," but "achieving something."
"These are promotion matches, even if we are the Bundesliga team. That sounds strange, but I know our season and I know our history. For me, it's not about preventing something, but about achieving something," he said in a news conference on Wednesday.

Heidenheim finished the Bundesliga in 16th and to remain in the top tier they need to defeat second division's third-placed Elversberg. The first leg is on Thursday, with the return leg scheduled for Monday.
"It's about resistance. When you're ahead like Elversberg, you build up resistance. For us it was the other way around, we had to overcome a lot of resistance," Schmidt said.
He hopes his squad can take experience from their participation in the Conference League this season, from which they were eliminated in he play-offs for the last 16.
"These are play-offs games. We know it from the games against Häcken and Copenhagen," he said.

The news conference was short, with Schmidt saying: "Everything I say doesn't matter. It's about being better on the pitch."

Report: Bundesliga clubs interested in Fabio Silva
Plettenberg's reports suggest that Silva is one to watch for the summer transfer window, with the 22-year-old striker planning to leave the West Midlands. Wolves value the striker at around €20–25 million after a successful loan spell in La Liga with Las Palmas, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists. Advertisement Reports suggest that there is strong interest from the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg all monitoring his situation. Silva joined Wolves in 2020, arriving from Porto for a hefty €40 million fee, naturally, expectations were sky high. However, after limited success in Old Gold, Silva has been out on loan with PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and most recently, Las Palmas. A physical and versatile centre forward, Silva will hope that a potential Bundesliga move can give him the platform to continue on with his trajectory, kick-started in Spain.

Cameroonian talent Christian Kofane passes Bayer Leverkusen medical
Sport Bild reports that 18-year-old Cameroonian striker Christian Kofane has passed his Bayer 04 Leverkusen medical. One of the Bundesliga outfit's summer transfer targets is thus set to be unveiled shortly. The teenage talent will sign five-year-contract, per the tabloid. Whereas previous reports suggested that Kofane will be immediately be loaned back out to his Spanish Segunda division club, new developments in newly appointed head coach Erik ten Hag's squad planning render it likelier that the player will remain in Germany. Advertisement The recent decision to retain the services of Czech striker Patrik Schick and shop Nigerian forward Victor Boniface for a sale leaves room for Kofane in the squad. A loan deal could nevertheless still be in the cards given that Kofane doesn't have a great deal of experience at a higher level. Germany's red company team appear set to acquire Kofane via a €5m release clause in his current contract. Leverkusen fended off several other suitors for the teenage prospect's services.
