David Lappartient to serve third term as UCI president unopposed
Lappartient, who is also the former head of the French Olympic Committee, lost to
Kirsty Coventry
in the race for president of the International Olympic Committee earlier this year.
He has been president of the UCI since 2017.
'Only David Lappartient, current UCI President, submitted a candidacy for the position,' the UCI said. 'His election for a third four-year term will be confirmed without a vote.'
The election of the president for the 2025-29 period will take place during the next UCI Congress, which will be held on Sept. 25 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Schwarber hits his 42nd homer in a 4-run 8th inning as the Phillies rallied past the Reds 4-1
CINCINNATI (AP) — Kyle Schwarber hit his 42nd homer of the season, a two-run shot that highlighted a four-run eighth inning, as the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies rallied to beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 Monday night, extending their winning streak to four games. Schwarber's 42nd homer moved him past Shohei Ohtani and into the NL lead. The Dodgers faced the Angels later Monday night. Seattle's Cal Raleigh leads the AL and MLB with 45 homers. Schwarber has 97 RBIs this season. Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott (8-3) allowed only three hits through seven innings. But, with two outs in the eighth, he allowed RBI doubles by Weston Wilson and Trea Turner. Schwarber followed with a two-run shot off Tony Santillan to complete the rally. Abbott bounced back after a rough outing on Wednesday when he allowed four earned runs and a pair of homers in a 6-1 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Stock car racing veteran dead in crash after mid-race medical emergency
A North Carolina stock car driver died on Saturday night after suffering a medical emergency, and his car struck a wall head-on during a race at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. Robbie Brewer had been a veteran stock car driver and had been taking part in a Sportsman Division race when the incident happened. The 54-year-old driver had been coming around turn three when he didn't make turn four and hit the wall straight-on, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
