Did you celebrate Earth Day a few days ago? It's great that you care enough to tend to the planet — now how about cultivating your mind? And don't make me ask about that 2025 resolution of yours to read more. Sorry-not-sorry if any of these admonitions seem guilt-trippy, but they're in the service of letting you know that the Amazon Book Sale is live now through April 28 and, well, you won't get a better chance anytime soon to build some brain cells while saving some serious scarole. As you know, Amazon doesn't do anything small, so we're seeing a ton of titles on sale at mind-melting markdowns. To wit: You can score up to 65% off children's books, including a 50%-off steal on the complete How to Train Your Dragon box set. Another box-set deal? A stunning 51% off the entire Three-Body Problem series. Like Colleen Hoover? Well, you can snag nearly every one of her titles for at least 40% off (and by the time you're finished reading the first one, she'll have written three more). Are you partial to tales of senior citizens freelancing on the homicide beat? Books one through three of Robert Thorogood's Marlow Murder Club series are marked down 31, 50 and 55%, respectively.
I've perused tens of thousands A LOT of books and curated a particularly compelling collection. Nearly all are recent publications, with a few gems from the recent past tossed in. All are Amazon Editors' Picks or otherwise critically lauded reads.
I've included paper-and-ink incarnations here, but you should know that the Amazon Book Sale is offering up to 80% off ebooks rated four stars or higher. You can also earn triple points on Kindle Rewards purchases through April 25 and new customers can sign up for Audible for just $0.99/month for the first three months. Oh, I've also highlighted some stellar sales on Amazon e-readers. But first: the books!
Check out these deals on Amazon Devices during the Amazon Book Sale:
If you have Amazon Prime, you'll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.)
The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.

In case you haven't heard, all the cool girls are going gaga for gingham this summer. If you're not going in on checked bedding or curtains, you're incorporating the picnic-inspired print into your look. Or, if you're like Jennifer Lopez, you're proudly wearing gingham from top to bottom—and straight-up slaying while doing so. On Mother's Day, the "On The Floor" singer took to Instagram to wish "everyone love, laughter, peace, joy and happiness," while stunning in a gorgeous gingham dress from Reformation (one of PureWow readers' and editors' favorite fashion brands). Unfortunately, the waist-snatching Tagliatelle linen dress (with a cutesy lace trim and corset-style bodice) is sold out in the pattern, but that doesn't mean you can't get her look. There are *a ton* of similar styles up for grabs at Quince, Amazon and even Nordstrom if you want to nail this summer's cutest trend—and look just as good as in the process. Here are five gingham-print dresses that won't break the bank or disappoint this summer. Want to know which buzzy products are *really* worth buying? Sign up for our shopping newsletter to uncover our favorite finds. Quince proved that you can never go wrong with a fit-and-flare dress, and this timeless-yet-trendy style hits it out of the park with its A-line silhouette. The square neckline is universally flattering, while the smocked back panel and adjustable straps guarantee a comfortable (and customizable) fit for any bust size. Add to that the fact that it's made from a lightweight and hypoallergenic linen material and features two deep front pockets, and how can you resist? Did I mention it's less than $100? $80 at tuckernuck Amazon Amazon is hiding one of the *cutest* checked dresses I've seen yet. The best part (besides the adjustable wide straps and smocked back, that is)? Well, believe it or not, the figure-flattering style is available for under $60! But that's not the only reason this buyer is obsessed: "I love all the choices they made with this dress—the slightly structured fabric that just seems to lay right and doesn't bunch up, the squared neckline, the slightly wider adjustable spaghetti straps and the girly lace trim at the bust." What they didn't mention is that it comes in multiple colorways, so you can go for a subtle hue like or embrace your inner Dorothy in a vivid blue. There's no place like Amazon... $57 at amazon Nordstrom Want to go full-on picnic core this summer? Say no more. This red gingham dress is guaranteed to turn heads, whether you're setting out your picnic blanket in the park or sipping mimosas on the patio at brunch. And thanks to its breathable blend of linen and rayon, it's totally worthy of all those warm-weather outings and then some. The lace details on the neckline and waist make it even more of a dream come true, though what I really can't get over is how good the cut is. $99 at nordstrom Saks Fifth Avenue Well, whaddya know? The same brand behind Lopez's frock is also behind this linen beauty. Just like it's designed to check-print perfection with ladder-embroidered trimming that makes it even more flattering and feminine. But is it as comfortable as it is elegant? Given that it features fixed straps, a smocked back panel *and* a concealed back zip closure, I don't doubt that it'll fit like a glove. And, yes, it has pockets! $298 at Saks Fifth Avenue Tuckernuck According to one happy buyer, this adorable midi has a "timeless gingham print [that's] elevated by a slight shimmer in the fabric," so you better believe it's anything but basic. But that's not all you have to look forward to if you make the splurge. The breezy seersucker frock boasts side seam pockets, elastic shirred cap sleeves and an empire waist that hugs at just the right place, so I have a feeling it'll make you look as good as you feel in it. $168 at tuckernuck 14 Zara Dresses You'll Want to See (& Buy) for Yourself PureWow's editors and writers have spent more than a decade shopping online, digging through sales and putting our home goods, beauty finds, wellness picks and more through the wringer—all to help you determine which are actually worth your hard-earned cash. Couple Quoted $500 for Dog's Sedated Nail Trim, Come up With Hilarious Plan

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When a couple were quoted a hefty $500 by their veterinarian for a sedated pet nail trim, they decided to take matters—and clippers—into their own hands, one paw at a time. The dog's owner, known as @lilkittyrose on TikTok, shared a short video to the platform on May 5, jokingly implying that the pair will be trimming their pets' nails themselves, one nail at a time. An overlaid text on the clip added more context: "Our vet quoted us $500 for a sedated nail trim…1 nail per nap it is," while the caption read: "My poor baby." Viewers on TikTok were able to see a man carefully trimming the dog's claw while they snoozed soundly beneath a blanket on the couch. Since it was posted, the 15-second clip has been viewed over 4.1 million times and has racked up more than 534,000 likes, with plenty of TikTok users chiming in with laughter, sympathy, and similar stories. "CVT [certified veterinary technician] here! If you can do this, DO IT! This is one of the best ways to reduce stress [and] anxiety for nail trims," one viewer said. "One toe at a time, don't force it, don't rush. "Over time you may be able to do more than one toe, before you know it you'll be trimming a whole paw! Definitely a treat after too, keep up the fantastic parenting guys." "$30 hanging harness from Amazon, trust," another added. "I have to feed my Rottweiler a baby carrot per nail so he's too busy snacking to get mad," a third viewer said. "Buy a second pair of clippers and you each do one so you can get two at a time," another added. "$500 is way too expensive, ask at another place," another said. The video's runaway popularity highlights a growing sentiment among American pet owners: veterinary care is becoming prohibitively expensive. The price of urban veterinarian services rose by 7.6 percent between 2023 and 2024, with states like Maine and Georgia seeing the sharpest increase in veterinary costs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Findings from Florida-based pet insurance company Spot Pet found that Maine saw a 21 percent rise in veterinary costs between 2023 and 2024, while Georgia followed closely with a 20 percent rise. The Switch 2 Is Here and I've Scoured the Internet for Every Accessory Available Right Now

The Switch 2 is here, and I am as excited as I can be. I know a lot of people have preordered and more are lining up to buy one, but in the hustle and bustle of getting the console itself, you may have missed the need for some accessories. We know that the Switch 2 is going to have a cool USB-C camera, but standard accessories like cases and screen protectors may have flown under the radar. I've spent some time finding as many Switch 2 accessories as I can, and while CNET has not had a chance to review them, they are all available for you to pick up for your new console sooner rather than later. Fyoung/CNET Fyoung controller charger dock: $16 Save $2 This charging dock can charge up to four Joy-Con 2 controllers simultaneously, making it great if you're a fan of multiplayer sessions. Plus, it looks sharp and can help organize your space a little better. $16 at Amazon Waxity/CNET Waxity controller station: $21 Save $2 This fast charging stand also charges up to four controllers simultaneously. It also has a cone-like shape that gives you plenty of ambiance with 10 colorful LED light modes. $21 at Amazon Fyoung/CNET Fyoung clear protective case: $16 Save $11 This clear case gives you protection against drops, dings and other hazards. Plus, you can still keep your Switch 2 in this case while charging in the dock, making it an ultra convenient option. $16 at Amazon Fyoung/CNET Fyoung all-in-one accessories case bundle: $24 Save $6 This bundle includes a hard shock-absorbing portable carrying case, a hardshell cover compatible with the Switch 2 dock, two screen protectors, eight thumb grips, 12 built-in game card slots and an external card box that can hold up to four game cards. $24 at Amazon Gorixer/CNET Gorixer charging dock: $15 Save $2 This charging dock will work for the Nintendo Switch 2, as well as older models like the Switch 1, the Switch OLED and the Switch Lite. Note that there is no cable included with this charging dock, so you'll have to buy a USB-C cable if you don't already have an extra one at home. $15 at Amazon Lmcpa/CNET Lmcpa dockable case: $10 Save $10 This shock-absorbent case has textured, anti-slip handles for a firm hold and raised edges for solid protection from drops. Plus, the design still allows your new Switch 2 to be docked and charging without removal. $10 at Amazon While buying all new accessories for your new Switch 2 is a good idea, some of your Switch 1 accessories will still work with the Switch 2 so you may want to see what you already have to help reduce the cost. The Joy-Cons will still work, though they won't clip to the console and the Switch Pro Controller will as well, though the new one will work better of course.
