EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios' big feature take of Colleen Hoover's Verity from Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett is now opening on October 2, 2026. It had been set for May 15 next year. The first weekend in October has been a rich launch pad for femme thriller movies, particularly those based on bestsellers, i.e. 2014's Gone Girl ($37.5M) and 2016's The Girl on the Train ($24.5M opening). The pic follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), who is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford (Hathaway) under mysterious circumstances. But her assignment takes a dark turn after discovering chilling autobiographical notes. Faced with a series of deadly family secrets, Lowen struggles to separate fiction from reality, while also blurring the lines with Verity's husband, Jeremy (Hartnett). Ismael Cruz Cordóva and Brady Wagner also star. Nick Antosca adapted with previous scribes being Hoover & Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and Will Honley & April Maguire. Producers are Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway and Hoover. EPs are Johnson, Lauren Levine and Kerry Orent. Production companies are Eat the Cat, Semi-Formal Productions, Shiny Penny, Somewhere Pictures and Heartbones Entertainment. While the filming is currently underway, the makers have announced the release date for the film. The femme thriller is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026. The femme thriller has been pushed months behind; previously, the media reports revealed May 15 as the release date for the film. With the new date, Verity will now collide with Tom Cruise 's untitled project, alongside Alejandro G. Iňárritu. Everything we know about Verity Verity is one of the highly anticipated films, as it marks the return of Colleen Hoover, whose novel, It Ends With Us, was previously adapted. The trailer of Verity was first unveiled at CinemaCon, which was followed by a good response from the audience and the critics. As for the plot of the film, it revolves around a renowned author, Verity Crawford, who hires a ghostwriter, Lowen Ashleigh, under mysterious circumstances. While amid her assignment, the latter is faced with some deadly autobiographical notes and family secrets, which make it difficult for Ashleigh to differentiate between fiction and reality. For the cast of the film, Dakota Johnson is joined by Anne Hathaway, who will portray the lead role. Other actors include Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva and Brady Wagner. The script is adapted by Hoover and Nick Antosca. As for the producers, they are Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway and Hoover. EPs are Johnson, Lauren Levine and Kerry Orent, who have come onboard to fund the film. The project is hailed by Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Michael Showalter.

The film is directed by Michael Showalter and stars Anne Hathaway , Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett , Ismael Cruz Cordova, and Brady Wagner. According to the publication, Johnson will play Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford (played by Hartnett) to finish a book series by his wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who has suffered a mysterious accident. But as Lowen starts her work, she discovers a hidden manuscript that may reveal dark secrets about the family. The Verity screenplay was written by Nick Antosca , following earlier versions by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire.
