Xbox cofounder J Allard is working on ‘breakthrough' devices at Amazon

Amazon has a new ZeroOne team focused on 'breakthrough' devices, and it's led by Xbox cofounder and former Microsoft executive J Allard, CNBC reports. Based on a job listing for the team, one of those products is a smart home device. J Allard was one of the main faces of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles, and during his nearly 20-year tenure at Microsoft, he also worked on the Zune MP3 player, Kin phones, and Courier tablet prototype. He joined Amazon to focus on 'new ideas' in late 2024. Job listings for his ZeroOne team at Amazon include senior roles in applied science, product marketing, and customer insights. The description for the applied scientist role says the person will work on 'a new smart-home product,' while the product marketing job description vaguely mentions work on 'an Amazon device.' It's unclear when a product from ZeroOne might actually be released. Smart home tech isn't anything new for Amazon, as the company already has various product lines within its Alexa ecosystem, including Echo devices, and even other brands it owns, like Blink and Eero. Amazon's Alexa event in February was focused almost solely on its new AI-powered Alexa Plus smart assistant, which is still invite-only and carries a $20 per month subscription fee.

Amazon Devices UAE Reveal Summer Features for Families

Home » Tech in Daily Life » Amazon Devices UAE Reveal Summer Features for Families Amazon Devices UAE has announced new features designed to enhance family experiences during the summer season in the UAE and KSA. As summer brings longer days, school breaks, and family vacations, many households are adjusting their routines. Amazon reported that its smart devices, including Alexa and Ring, are now offering solutions aimed at making this seasonal shift easier and more enjoyable. According to Amazon, the devices help parents manage daily activities, keep kids entertained, and stay connected while traveling. The company revealed five key ways its products support families during the summer months. Creativity at home: Alexa can assist children in creative play with themed playlists and voice-activated lighting. Remote home check-ins: Ring Indoor Cameras and Echo Show enable live video feeds and two-way audio for virtual monitoring. Moreover, Amazon stated that Alexa routines can automate daily tasks such as morning wake-up calls or bedtime wind-downs. This allows parents to focus more on quality time rather than constant reminders. For families on the move, Amazon Devices offer portable entertainment. Alexa can play music, launch games like Akinator, or suggest podcasts. Kindle gives access to a library of books, making travel more enjoyable for all ages. In addition, the company highlighted that smart home automations help manage lights, temperature, and compatible appliances. These features reduce household stress, letting families concentrate on making memories. Amazon Devices UAE confirmed that these updates are available now and are compatible with existing Echo and Ring products. The announcement reflects Amazon's continued commitment to family-focused innovation in the smart home market.
