Breezy and warm Friday; fire danger rises in Carolinas
We start off with the 40s and 50s locked in from our mountains into uptown as winds stay relatively calm. As high-pressure leaks east off of the North Carolina coast, a more pronounced wind out of the south will work to funnel more warmth & moisture into the Carolinas.
Highs will make a run for the upper 70s and peak near 80 degrees during the peak heating hours of the day. Winds will be a bit breezy out of the south-southwest, between 5 and 15 miles per hour. Wind gusts can be as fast as 24 miles per hour at times, which will continue to increase our fire danger with dry and windy conditions stubbornly sticking around.
This will continue our increased risk of Fire Danger Friday, with relief coming this weekend in the form of rain and storm chances. Look for clouds to build on Saturday as upper 70s return. Rain chances ramp up on Sunday with an approaching cold front tracking east toward the Carolinas.

We'll settle back into the upper 60s and low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is dry, with rain and storms returning by Wednesday & Thursday of next week.

I issued the Weather Authority Alert yesterday for Tuesday due to the potential for strong storms and intense rainfall. That certainly happened tonight with several streets and arroyos flooded with water. A Flash Flood Warning is posted until 10:15 PM for west and central El Paso. Do not drive into flooded roadways. Storm chances last well into the night/early morning. The east winds will range from 5-20 mph with stronger gusts near storms. The low will drop to 72.
