Pinpoint Weather Alert: Hot & muggy on Saturday, strong PM storms possible
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good Saturday morning, and welcome to the weekend! We are tracking what will be quite a hot and muggy weekend, with a few thunderstorm chances during the afternoon and evening. A very summerlike pattern. Temperatures are starting in the mid- to upper 60s and lower 70s this Saturday morning, with highs expected to possibly crack the 90-degree mark for the first time this year later Saturday in many locations. Be sure to drink plenty of water and find as much shade as possible throughout the day. Saturday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert, as there will be a few hit-or-miss showers and storms that pop up during the afternoon. A storm or two this afternoon may contain gusty winds and small hail. Have the Pinpoint Weather App handy if you are out at any of the numerous outdoor events scheduled across the Queen City News viewing area this weekend. The better chance for more widespread storm chances will arrive late Saturday evening, as a decaying complex of storms moves into the region. Model data as of this morning is showing a weakening trend with that line of storms as it moves into the Carolinas tonight around 8-9 pm. However, frequent lightning and isolated damaging wind gusts are possible late this evening. Conditions will dry out tonight, but we will stay warm and muggy, with lows only falling into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Anticipate another hot and muggy day for Sunday. Temperatures will surge into the mid to upper 80s for the afternoon. Although we will not be tracking another complex of storms for Sunday, there will be another chance for pop-up showers and storms during the afternoon, before tapering off by the evening. Damaging wind gusts will once again be the top concern with any storms that become strong to severe on Sunday, but it is an isolated threat. This general summerlike pattern will continue for much of next week. Hot and humid conditions, with general afternoon pop-up showers or thunderstorm chances most 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. After summer-like Friday, weekend temperatures remain above normal
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Friday got HOT! Despite lots of cloud cover, highs in the 80s combined with dew points in the 70s made it feel more like it was in the 90s! Temperatures will remain above-normal throughout the weekend, with a bit less humidity filtering in behind a front late Saturday into Sunday. But it could still be rainy and stormy at times, especially late tonight through Saturday morning. The mountains and foothills remain in a Level 2 out of 5 for severe storm risk as the next complex of storms moves in after midnight. Damaging wind and hail are the main threats, but a tornado can't be ruled out. Have a way to get any alerts overnight, just in case! A good way to do that is to turn off Do Not Disturb on your phone. Saturday: AM showers, thunderstorm, then partly cloudy. Breezy. High 88. Sunday: Partly cloudy, few showers/thunderstorm possible. 64/87. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Breezy and warm Friday; fire danger rises in Carolinas
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — We're cool and comfortable to start this Friday as winds stay relatively light. Clouds will mix in as the sun comes up and temperatures warm up effectively and quickly throughout the day. We start off with the 40s and 50s locked in from our mountains into uptown as winds stay relatively calm. As high-pressure leaks east off of the North Carolina coast, a more pronounced wind out of the south will work to funnel more warmth & moisture into the Carolinas. Highs will make a run for the upper 70s and peak near 80 degrees during the peak heating hours of the day. Winds will be a bit breezy out of the south-southwest, between 5 and 15 miles per hour. Wind gusts can be as fast as 24 miles per hour at times, which will continue to increase our fire danger with dry and windy conditions stubbornly sticking around. This will continue our increased risk of Fire Danger Friday, with relief coming this weekend in the form of rain and storm chances. Look for clouds to build on Saturday as upper 70s return. Rain chances ramp up on Sunday with an approaching cold front tracking east toward the Carolinas. Monday brings a line of storms that will have the potential to pack a punch. Be sure to download the Pinpoint Weather App and stay weather aware as we head into Monday of next week. We'll settle back into the upper 60s and low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is dry, with rain and storms returning by Wednesday & Thursday of next week. Friday: Breezy & Warm with a Mix of Sun & Clouds. High: 79. Friday Night: Partly Cloudy and Cool.
