Newcastle Falcons rebranded as 'Newcastle Red Bulls' as takeover confirmed
The Gallagher Prem club, who will continue to play at Kingston Park and retain Steve Diamond as director of rugby, will now be known as Newcastle Red Bulls.
Red Bull has aspirations for the team to compete for trophies in England and Europe in the coming years.

The Austria-based company already has significant business interests in football, motor racing and winter sports.
Newcastle finished bottom of the Premiership table in each of the last three seasons.
The new ownership has pledged to develop local rugby talent through a 'strengthened academy program' and deliver 'a world-class fan experience'.

Newcastle begin the new season on Friday, 26 September, at home to Saracens.

Premier SHC: Sarsfields 4-30 Erin's Own 3-14 As statements of intent go, they don't come much stronger than this. Sarsfields never had to raise a gallop as they brushed aside Erin's Own in Group 1 of the Co-op Superstores Cork PSHC. All but three points of their tally came from play, 11 players got their names on the scoresheet, and the talent left on the bench for the hour will ensure that nobody will be getting ahead of themselves in Riverstown. It was a chastening evening for Erin's Own, but they gave themselves something to build on in the second half with Cian O'Callaghan bagging two goals and Conor Lenihan excellent all evening in scoring 0-5. The game was over at the interval as two goals from James Sweeney and a contender for goal of the season from Killian Murphy left Sars 3-12 to 0-5 in front. Jack O'Connor fired in a fourth goal four minutes after the break and the Cork panelist was sublime throughout, hitting 1-8. Excellent work from Óran O'Regan and Lenihan set O'Callaghan up for his opening goal to make it 4-16 to 1-7 with twenty minutes to go. Robbie O'Flynn rifled home a twenty-one-yard free at the start of the final quarter but those majors never put a dent into the deficit as Sars were scoring at will from out the field with Daniel Hogan and Conor O'Sullivan particularly proficient. O'Flynn set up O'Callaghan for goal number three for Erin's Own with seven to play, and one assumes that Johnny Crowley will be latching on to those goals when they reassemble during the week. The balmy evening made up for the lack of bite as the game petered out towards inevitability with O'Regan landing the games final score in injury time to leave eighteen between them. The opening ten minutes promised us a contest. The sides were level three times, and Erin's Own were throwing themselves about. Conor Lenihan, Eoghan Murphy and Tom Dillon from a free split the posts for Erin's Own, while Jack O'Connor with two and Colm McCarthy were on target for Sars. Twice Shane O'Regan got a sight of goal, and twice he was repelled with Dillon making an outstanding stop for effort number one and Riain O'Regan making a heroic block second time around. Still, points from the rampant O'Connor and Bryan Murphy pushed Sars two clear, and from there, their lead would only grow. A combination of Dillon and O'Regan denied O'Regan for a third time and when Mossy O'Carroll gave Matt O'Riordan a sight at goal at the other end, there was a sense that this was the chance. Ben Graham saved well, however, and moments later Killian Murphy ran through the heart of the Erin's Own defence before cracking a bullet past Dillon. Fifteen minutes had been played, and Sars led by 1-5 to 0-3. They then won the rest of the half by 2-7 to 0-2 as Erin's Own simply had no answer for their pace, power and class. James Sweeney banged in two goals, Cathal McCarthy strode forward two points, O'Connor and Colm McCarthy added two more to their tallies while Cian Darcy and Daniel Hogan also pointed. Lenihan and Cian Dunphy were on target for Erin's Own, but trailing by 3-12 to 0-5 at the interval, they faced into a long second half. They did as well as they could from there, and for them, it's all about trying to raise their spirits for their final game against Fr O'Neill's, while Sars will be looking to secure the direct route to the final four when they play Glen Rovers. Dannah O'Brien 'happy enough here' with no England plans
Ireland out-half Dannah O'Brien has no plans switch to the Premiership Women's Rugby league in England declaring she is "happy" where she is. Many of the Carlow woman's international team-mates ply their trade in England, while star flanker Aoife Wafer will join Harlequins after the Rugby World Cup. Sam Monaghan, Neve Jones and Ellena Perry line out with Gloucester-Hartpury, while Edel McMahon, Clíodhna Moloney MacDonald and Nancy McGillivray are at Exeter. Grace Moore plays for London-based Trailfinders. O'Brien, who made her Ireland debut in 2022 and has 26 caps, plays for Leinster and the Wolfhounds in the Celtic Challenge and is centrally contracted to the IRFU. Despite a British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand on the horizon in two years' time, O'Brien is satisfied that home is the best place for her to continue her development. "Not for me personally in the next while, I'm happy enough here," the 21-year-old told RTÉ Sport. "The facilities we have here are unbelievable. "The programme we have is [great]. "I've definitely seen improvements in my game in the last few years. "The Celtic Challenge is up and coming and will improve massively in the next few years. "Yeah, I'll be here for a while." O'Brien's only focus is on the World Cup where Ireland will begin their Pool C campaign against Japan on Sunday week. After a wooden-spoon finish in the 2023 Six Nations, Ireland have managed consecutive third-place finishes in the championship, while they claimed the WXV3 title two years ago. Wins over Australia in friendly last year and the WXV1 victory over New Zealand have raised expectations among fans, and O'Brien insists they have the belief to continue that upward trajectory in England. "Maybe [there's a bit more pressure]," she said. "For us, the way we see it is we've built the stepping stones onto the next level, we know we are capable of competing with the best in the world. "It's proof we can go over there and achieve great things. "Last year, playing against New Zealand, there was just a sense of belief that we could beat them. "I think we have a lot of the work done and it's about getting a bit of belief together in each other. "If we do take it step by step I think we'll have a good shot." "Obviously, we are going to miss Dorothy and Erin, they were a huge part of our team but there have been a good few players filling in those roles.

Cork outdoor recreation projects receive ‘major boost' of more than €600,000 in funding
The funding, a total sum of €608,550, has been provided from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). The overall fund is worth €8.7m and will cover 221 projects across Ireland including walking trails, cycleways, water-based amenities and mountain access routes. Fine Gael senator Eileen Lynch said she is 'delighted' to see the investment in outdoor projects in Cork. 'When projects are delivered, this funding will provide a major boost to the local economy by attracting visitors and furthering our reputation as a destination for adventure tourism,' Senator Lynch said. The Macroom-based senator said she is particularly delighted to see funding for IRD Duhallow and Cork County Council as these bodies 'provided so much joy for the community over the years.' 'This new funding is going to make a big difference for outdoor amenities in Cork, making them even better for local families and visitors alike. It's so important to get out and make the most of what our outdoors has to offer. 'I want to thank the community groups across Cork who work so hard to develop and enhance recreational amenities in our local community. 'These amenities are here for us all to enjoy. I really encourage everyone to get out there and enjoy the incredible outdoor spaces Cork has to offer', Senator Lynch concluded. ORIS provides funding in three separate measures. Measure 1 offers funding up €40,000 at a 90pc rate of aid for small scale repair/development/promotion or marketing. Maximum six applications can be submitted by each local authority and three applications can be submitted by each local development company. Measure 2 offers funding up to €200,000 at a 90pc rate of aid for medium scale repairs/upgrade and a new trails/amenity development. Maximum three applications can be made by each local authority and one application can be submitted per local development company or state body. Measure 3 offers funding up to €500,000 at a 90pc rate of aid for large scale repair/upgrade and or new strategic trail/amenity development. Local authorities and State bodies can submit one application each under this Measure. 11 Cork projects received funding under Measure 1. Avondhu Blackwater Partnership CLG received €31,050 to develop a car park and upgrade Ballard trail. The partnership also received €29,700 for Blackwater Way map boards and €31,505 for repairs along the Blackwater Way. Cork County Council received €40,000 to replace fencing between Belgooly walkway and Riverstick Estuary. The funding will also cover the installation of benches and street furniture. The local authority also received €40,000 for sea swimming infrastructure for east Cork beaches and €37,800 for sea swimming infrastructure on Great Island. The council also received €40,000 for upgrade works at Seefin car park on the Duhallow Way. IRD Duhallow CLG received a total of €120,000 for upgrade works in the area. West Cork Development Partnership received €40,000 for development of a new walking trail that connects Ballingeary village to Drom an Ailigh to Ceim Chorrbhualle. Four projects received approval from the Project Development Measure. Cork County Council received two separate allocations of €49,950, for works on Abbey Pier on Sherkin Island and the development of Skibbereen Recreation and Amenity Park. IRD Duhallow received €50,000 to map and screen off-road sections of the Beara-Breifne Way. SECAD Partnership CLD received €49.500 to carry out assessment surveys for the Ballycotton Cliff Walk in East Cork.
