MOH To Review MMA's Proposal On Medicine Price Display Under Act 586
PUTRAJAYA, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) is considering a proposal from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) to implement the Medicine Price Display initiative under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586).
Its minister, Datuk Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the proposal, which is among the matters raised in a memorandum submitted by the MMA, has received the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has advised the MOH to study and evaluate it.
'The Prime Minister has asked me to carefully review their memorandum, and I have taken this matter seriously.
'I have directed the top leadership of the MOH to look into how we can address the request fairly and consider the feasibility of placing the medicine price display requirement under Act 586, which falls under the ministry's purview,' he told a press conference after attending the 2025 National Midwives and Nurses Day celebration here today.
Dr Dzulkefly added that the MOH is committed to being responsive and welcomes constructive suggestions aimed at strengthening the country's healthcare system.
On Tuesday, the MMA urged the government to review the use of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723) in the medical sector, particularly with regard to the recent regulation requiring private clinics and pharmacies to display the prices of medicines, which came into effect earlier this month.
In its memorandum, the MMA expressed full support for transparency in drug pricing but argued that it should be implemented through Act 586.
The regulation on price display, enforced from May 1, is outlined under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Drugs) Order 2025, issued under Act 723.
The scope covers all medicines for human use, including controlled medicines, over-the-counter drugs, traditional products, health supplements, and extemporaneous preparations — both prescription and non-prescription.

48 more ‘wellness hubs' to promote healthy lifestyles

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The health ministry is to set up 48 more wellness hub community centres across the country to help promote a healthy lifestyle among the people, health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said. He said 33 such hubs have been established since 2020 in urban and rural areas and the remaining 48 hubs are expected to be completed by 2033, Bernama reported. 'While hospitals and clinics play a crucial role, I regard wellness bubs as the cornerstone of healthcare, particularly in urban and rural areas, offering substantial support for people's health,' he said at the opening of a wellness hub in Kuala Langat, Selangor. A new facility will be launched in Kuala Selangor later this year, the fourth in the state, after Hulu Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Langat. Dzulkefly said the centres had helped nearly 1.5 million Malaysians, of whom 75% had successfully lost weight, 74% improved their physical fitness, and 54% quit smoking. He said the wellness hubs, formerly known as community health promotion centres, have been upgraded into community centres that offer health and wellness services, focussing on behavioural changes and promoting consistent, sustainable healthy lifestyles. At today's ceremony, the ministry entered a collaboration with the fire and rescue department on health and wellness initiatives, including activities at the Fire and Rescue Academy and fire stations. Dzulkefly said more than 1,100 firefighters have taken part in activities at wellness hubs and most of them have successfully lost weight and become more fit.

Anwar extends aid to cancer patient, retired soldier in Kuantan
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has presented donations to stage-four nasal cancer patient Mohd Sharul Ikmal and retired soldier Pak Nik Soh, who is nearly blind from optic nerve complications. The aid was handed over on behalf of the Prime Minister by his political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, during a Ziarah Madani programme visit to Taman Balok Jaya, Kuantan, Pahang. "I was deeply moved when I heard two truly touching life stories, beginning with Sharul, 27, who, at such a young age, has to battle stage-four nasal cancer. "Even more heartbreaking, he has a young child whose father is now battling chronic health issues and requires support to survive," he said in a Facebook post shared by the prime minister today. Ahmad Farhan also shared about Pak Nik Soh, who has been suffering from optic nerve problems for the past three years. "A father who once served the country now relies on his children and neighbours to continue his daily life. On behalf of the prime minister, I extend a small contribution as a gesture of love and solidarity. "Above all, what is most needed are prayers, attention, and ongoing efforts so that they do not face their battles alone.
