Value lies with Botafogo
Bookmakers are struggling to split these Brazilian Serie A rivals in the last 16 of the Club World Cup, but there is a bit of value in backing Botafogo to progress to the quarter-finals, be it in 90 minutes, after extra time or on penalties.
Botafogo are eighth in the league, four place and four points behind Palmeiras, but they came into this tournament on a run of three wins before taking down Seattle Sounders and Champions League winners PSG, then came close to nicking a point off Atletico Madrid.
As for Palmeiras, they were underwhelming against Inter Miami, recovering from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, but they moved the ball slowly and it was arguably their worst performance of the tournament.
They will also be wary of the fact Botafogo beat them three times in 2024 and they were held to a 0-0 draw by them at their Sao Paulo home in March.
Defensive midfielder Gregore is suspended for Botafogo, but that may not be too big an issue given they could field a more attacking line-up than they did in the group stage and they are a great bet at 11/10 to win the tie.
Fouls could fly between rivals
This is by no means a traditional Brazilian rivalry – Palmeiras hail from Sao Paulo and Botafogo are from Rio de Janeiro – but there has been no love lost between the sides in recent seasons.
Palmeiras snatched the Serie A title from Botafogo two years ago, while Botafogo got their revenge with a win when the sides met in the Copa Libertadores last season.
This promises to be a high-intensity match between two aggressive sides and 32+ match total fouls is worth a bet at 5/2.
Botafogo are averaging 16.3 fouls per game at the Club World Cup, while Palmeiras are averaging 15 per match and there were 40 fouls committed when these sides clashed in Serie A back in March.
Jesus can cause Palmeiras problems
There are a few players who appeal in the shots and goalscorer markets for this game, but punters should keep it simple with Botafogo striker Igor Jesus to have 2+ shots on target at 7/4.
Likely to join Nottingham Forest this summer, Jesus has impressed at the Club World Cup with two goals in three appearances, averaging two shots per game.
That shot-per-game average jumps to 3.5 in Serie A this season and he was especially active in the March meeting between the sides with five shots, including three on target, plus three key passes.

NHL, NHLPA reach terms on labor pact that goes through 2029-30 season

June 27 (Reuters) - The National Hockey League and union representing its players announced on Friday that they have agreed to a four-year extension of the collective bargaining agreement that will carry through the 2029-30 season. The two parties, who made the announcement during a joint news conference, signed a memorandum of understanding and the deal requires ratification from both NHL owners and the NHL Players' Association membership. "We can all look forward to at least five years more of labor peace of the Players' Association and the NHL working together," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles. "While we didn't agree on everything, we had a very constructive, professional, collaborative collective bargaining process, which I think you all know started (at the) end of March and April. The current CBA, which was signed in 2013 with a four-year extension ratified in 2020, expires in September 2026. Among the changes that have been reported is the regular season expanding to 84 games per team from 82 while the pre-season drops to four games from six per team. Reaching an agreement well before the current CBA expires is a welcome sign for a league that has experienced three lockouts in the last 30 years. "We thought that it would be good to get this conversation moving," said NHLPA Executive Director Marty Walsh, a former U.S. Labor Secretary who took on his current role in February 2023. "The process for us now is to take this agreement to the entire membership for ratification; we're going to do that over the next week or so. "I'm happy with the process. Hopefully, the players will be happy with the outcome."

Players forced to give up vacation to play Club World Cup, says Raphinha

June 27 (Reuters) - Brazil's Barcelona forward Raphinha regretted that the players were not consulted about extending their season to play at the Club World Cup, adding that nobody should be obliged to give up their vacation time. The first expanded edition of the Club World Cup started on June 14 and will run until July 13. The competition followed the European league season which concluded in late May and an international window at the beginning of June. "Speaking particularly as someone who plays for a European team, we would (currently) be on vacation," Raphinha said. "Marquinhos and Beraldo, from Paris St Germain, won the Champions League and didn't even get to celebrate properly. They came to the national team and then went to the Club World Cup. They still haven't stopped. "Many say that this is an excuse. It may or may not be, but having to give up our vacations out of obligation is very complicated. It's our right. Everyone deserves at least a month of vacation. And many of them won't get it." Most of the major European leagues will be back in action in mid to late August, with the pre-seasons starting early in the month. "If PSG reach the Club World Cup final, they will have the Super Cup right away. It doesn't stop," Raphinha added. "It depends on your point of view. From my point of view, it's very bad to give up your vacation to play something that you are forced to do. At no point did they ask the players if they wanted to. "It (should be) up to us to accept it. Having to give up your vacation to play in a new tournament is very complicated." PSG will face Tottenham Hotspur for the Super Cup on August 13.

Thomas Tuchel's presence will motivate England Under-21s in final

The Young Lions' victory over the Netherlands this week put them within one match of retaining their crown in Slovakia. Senior coach Tuchel is set to make the journey to Bratislava as England meet his home nation, who cruised past France 3-0 in their semi-final. Putting in the FINAL preparations, our #YoungLions 💪🦁 — England (@England) June 27, 2025 'If he does come it will be extra motivation for the lads to win,' Young Lions skipper McAtee said. 'More reason to impress the manager.' The likes of Liam Delap, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have been on the scoresheet at the Club World Cup for their respective sides as they bid to earn places in England's World Cup squad next summer. Tuchel has been in the United States monitoring his players, with English clubs Chelsea and Manchester City advancing into the knockout stages. 'Thomas' support has been very strong from the start,' Lee Carsley added. 'He's at the Club World Cup. The travel arrangements have been made, so hopefully he gets here on time.' Germany are unbeaten in the tournament so far and beat England 2-1 in the group stage. Striker Nick Woltemade, who has drawn interest from Bayern this summer, has scored six goals in four appearances in Slovakia and will be one for England to keep an eye on. 'After the game, I was more than confident that this team had clicked and we were in a good position,' Carsley said on England's Group B defeat to their fellow finalists. 'I thought that we'd be there. I wasn't sure if they would be there. I was confident that we were going to do well in this tournament. I've got a lot of belief in this team. 'I knew the second half against Germany, we clicked. In the first half, it would be fair to say, especially the first 20 minutes, we did not play well.'
