Ajman: Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD), visited the department's headquarters to review the proposed building's new concept design, accompanied by His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of the Department as well as several senior administrative and technical staff members.
The visit commenced with a comprehensive presentation by the team developing the new design, which outlined the building's technical and planning components. The proposed structure will feature contemporary designs to support future expansion and foster a flexible work environment catering to the needs of both employees and customers.
H.H Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi said: 'This project is a part of the Ajman Government's ongoing efforts to modernise its buildings and service facilities, in line with its vision to deliver best-in-class government services, achieve institutional excellence, attract top talents and foster an innovative work environment equipped to anticipate future challenges. It further reflects the Emirate's long-standing commitment to enhancing the quality of institutional life, while promoting sustainability across government projects by adopting the highest standards of practices in urban planning, facility management, and smart design. Furthermore, such initiatives help advance the UAE's wider economic and developmental goals, aligning with future demands.'
The presentation also explored aspects related to operational efficiency, interior space planning and integration of the latest smart building and sustainability technologies, including energy-saving systems, natural lighting and designs aimed at minimising environmental impact.
H.E. Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi stated: 'This project highlights ADTD's belief in the importance of achieving integration between administrative and service functions at all levels, to facilitate enhanced customer experience and service quality. It further aligns with the vision of our wise leadership, which positions government infrastructure as a key pillar of institutional modernisation and an integral facet of nurturing a dynamic, future-ready environment capable of addressing emerging challenges with agility, efficiency and effectiveness.'
This initiative is much more than just an expansion and marks a transformative shift in the philosophy of government facility design, with smart architectural elements being embedded within the core principles of productivity and institutional well-being. Earlier this month, the UAE Government launched a new federal strategic planning cycle as part of its ambitious 'We the UAE 2031' vision, marking a shift toward a more agile, AI-powered, and resource-optimised approach to governance. This new framework shortens the government's strategy cycle to a three-year timeframe, aiming to deliver faster, smarter, and more impactful public services. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, directed all ministries and federal government bodies to develop strategies rooted in innovation, flexibility, and advanced technology to ensure the goals outlined in 'We the UAE 2031' are achieved with greater speed and efficiency. The UAE's holistic strategy - balancing foresight with innovation, regulation, and collaboration - provides a valuable blueprint for other countries to accelerate digital transformation, Jad Haddad, Partner and the Global Head of Quotient – AI by Oliver Wyman, told Aletihad . Haddad leads regional advisory work on public sector transformation and AI strategy and has supported national-level clients across the GCC on planning models, data-driven governance, and workforce modernisation. 'The UAE's approach to data-driven governance stands out for its strong leadership commitment, integrated data infrastructure, and balanced regulatory framework emphasising ethics and privacy,' he said. 'By fostering public-private partnerships and focusing on citizen-centric services, the UAE accelerates AI adoption while ensuring tangible benefits for residents.'AI is positioned as a core pillar of governance under the new planning cycle. According to Haddad, this will transform federal services by enabling data-driven decision-making, personalised public experiences, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration. 'AI and predictive models enable the UAE to optimise government spending and human capital by forecasting budget needs, preventing inefficiencies, and automating routine tasks,' he added.'This enhances workforce planning, talent matching, and performance monitoring, driving resource efficiency and supporting sustainable, agile, and citizen-focused governance.'Haddad also pointed out that agile governance at the federal level prioritises citizen engagement, adaptive regulations, and rapid responsiveness, ultimately 'transforming the government into a flexible, efficient system that delivers timely, inclusive solutions nationwide'. Upskilling for the Future Lisa Lyons, Regional Transformation Centre of Excellence Lead, Mercer – IMEA, noted that success depends on how effectively the UAE nurtures and deploys future-ready skills. 'Equipping talent with AI skills is the linchpin in transforming ambition into sustainable leadership,' she told Aletihad . Lyons pointed to the recent partnership between the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) and Dubai AI Campus to train over 10,000 individuals in the field of AI by 2030 as a strong example of the UAE's commitment to prioritising AI skills Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025-2027, led by the Department of Government Enablement, includes an AI for All initiative designed to empower citizens with AI capabilities. Backed by a Dh13 billion investment, the strategy aims to build a fully AI-native government by digitising services, automating operations, and deploying over 200 AI solutions across federal entities. 'The biggest opportunity is for organisations to invest in the development of critical AI skills to enhance long-term productivity and differentiate the organisational employee value proposition when bidding for talent. Investing in critical AI skills is how we turn AI from a tool into a true catalyst for growth,' Lyons said. The UAE's focus on AI is fostering a culture of continuous learning and workforce transformation within the public sector, said Saqr AlMaazmi, Head of Government and Public Sector Consulting, Mercer UAE. 'As government employees upskill to work alongside advanced technologies, the delivery of services will become more proactive and people-focused. Watch: Saudi starts testing driverless vehicles in Riyadh

As the Gulf region accelerates its shift toward smart and sustainable transportation, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, July 23, launched the pilot phase of autonomous vehicles in Riyadh. In the initial phase, these driveless vehicles, which can reach a maximum speed of 100kmph, will operate in seven locations in the Kingdom's capital, including the King Khalid International Airport. There will be 13 designated pick-up and drop-off points. During the pilot phase, the vehicles will transport passengers with a safety officer on board each vehicle to ensure safety and monitor the performance of the smart systems in real-world conditions. The pilot phase will be for 12 months. According to Saudi's Transport General Authority (TGA), The project is the result of a comprehensive partnership between the Kingdom's transport and logistics system and key government and private sector entities. Dubai Business Events drives continued growth in H1 2025

Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city's official convention bureau, has continued to accelerate the growth of Dubai's business events ecosystem and support the city's tourism growth in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, securing 249 successful bids in the first six months of 2025 to host events through 2025 till 2029, including major congresses and high-profile incentive programmes. This marks a 29% increase in bid submissions compared to the same period last year, with a total of 391 bids submitted year-to-date and a conversion rate of 64%, up from 58% in H1 2024. These confirmed wins are expected to bring 127,087 delegates, a 35% year-on-year increase in delegate numbers, further enhancing Dubai's global standing as a hub for international business events and the emirate's knowledge economy. This performance underlines the overwhelmingly strong response to Dubai's destination proposition and global MICE positioning. The successful bids will enable Dubai to host distinguished international conferences, congresses, and incentive meetings, with a pipeline extending into 2029. This growth reinforces the importance of business events to the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which is focused on doubling the size of the city's economy by 2033 and cementing its status among the world's top three cities to visit, live, and work in. Through strategic collaboration, DBE, part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, worked closely with stakeholders, partners, and local associations, including the Al Safeer Congress Ambassadors, a network of UAE-based key opinion leaders, industry professionals, and government representatives working to bring international business events within their sectors to Dubai and secure high-profile events. The Al Safeer Ambassador Programme, in partnership with the Dubai Association Centre, plays a vital role in strengthening the city's global reputation as a premier destination for meetings, incentives, and conferences, contributing significantly to bid development and success. Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), said: 'Guided by the country's wise leadership, Dubai's achievement during the first half of 2025 is a testament to the city's commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration in business events. In collaboration with our stakeholders and partners, we continue to drive the D33 vision and make Dubai a knowledge and business global hub. The diversity and extent of events booked this year confirm Dubai's infrastructure of international standards, accessibility, and market insight. In future years, we remain committed to delivering exceptional value to event organisers and delegates, and to establishing Dubai's leadership position on the international stage.' DBE's active engagement in the international market contributed to its strong performance, with teams conducting five sales missions across Asia (China, Japan and South Korea, India) as well as Europe (France and Belgium) and North America, engaging over 50 stakeholders and partners as well as representing Dubai in key strategic industry trade shows such as IMEX Frankfurt during H1 2025. These persistent activities have kept Dubai at the top of the minds of global event organisers and garnered the interests of decision-makers and delegates worldwide across core sectors. Dubai's global stature as a preferred business events destination was further underlined by new accolades in 2025. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranked Dubai number one globally for highest attendee number per association meeting and the city retained its number one spot in the Middle East and Africa for total number of association meetings hosted. Meanwhile, Cvent confirmed Dubai's leading position among the Top 25 Meeting Destinations in the region. These recognitions affirm the city's ability to successfully and seamlessly accommodate the needs of international organisers across all event types. Dubai's growing appeal is also reflected in its success across corporate, incentive, and association segments. Notable wins during the first half of the year include the 2029 edition of Sibos, which is expected to attract 12,000 delegates, the 2027 1st Conjoint Meeting of the Cervical Spine Research Society - Asia Pacific and Europe with 800 delegates, and the 2026 edition of the World Congress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG), which will bring 2,000 delegates. Other association events include the 2026 Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat International Conference with 1,500 delegates and the 2026 International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) with 1,000 delegates. In the corporate and incentive space, Dubai secured the 2026 Africa Energy Forum with 2,000 delegates, the Herbalife Multiple Market Incentive with 2,400 delegates, and the Planisware Incentive with 1,300 delegates. Returning events include Token2049 in 2026 with 15,000 delegates. Google will also call Dubai its home for two of its flagship conferences in 2026 and 2028, with 4,000 delegates each year. These achievements were further supported by DBE's Al Safeer Programme, which contributed to 51 ambassador-led bids during the period, winning 32 to date. Through year-round engagement and close collaboration with hotels, venues, Professional Congress Organisers (PCOs), Destination Management Companies (DMCs), and other service providers, DBE continues to attract prestigious business events to Dubai. The bureau also hosted study missions and participated in international events such as IMEX Frankfurt, providing meeting planners and industry stakeholders the opportunity to experience Dubai's dynamic business events infrastructure first-hand. Through the rest of the year, DBE will continue to participate in key strategic trade shows and events including Epex, IMEX Las Vegas, IBTM Barcelona, the ICCA Middle East Summit in Bahrain and ICCA global congress in Porto, joined by partners and stakeholders to grow collaborative efforts and drive Dubai's business events positioning further.
