Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami reiterates ban on Women's Affairs Reform Commission, deems it ‘anti-Quran'
Jamaat leader Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman reiterated the party's previous demand while addressing the party's district and metropolitan Ameer conference at the Al-Falah Auditorium in Dhaka's Moghbazar, reported Business Standard BD.
The BJI leader said, "If the proposals of this commission are implemented, it will have a major impact on the family system of the country.
"The anti-Quran committee must be abolished. We have already warned the government about this. We hope they will take appropriate action."
Rahman also spoke about the national polls, saying it was only possible to hold them in the government's given timeframe, if reforms are implemented on time and all stakeholders cooperate.
"The government has said that elections will be held between December this year and June next year. If the reform activities that have been undertaken are expedited and stakeholders cooperate, then elections are possible after reforms within the time announced by the government," he said.
"We consider two timeframes to be suitable. One is February, before the start of Ramadan. If reforms and judicial processes are not completed by then, the election should not be delayed beyond April," he added.
A pro-Islamic party, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently opposed the Women's Affairs Reform Commission established by the Mohd Yunus-led interim government, particularly criticising its proposals on Islamic inheritance laws, the recognition of sex work, and the identification of religion as a source of gender discrimination.
In line with its hardline fundamentalist stance, the party views the commission as incompatible with Islamic values and the cultural norms of Bangladesh. As such, the BJI has advocated for reforms that align with Islamic principles, such as promoting women's roles within the family structure.

Delhi Minister Indraj holds public hearing at RCS office
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Delhi's Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh today conducted a public hearing at the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Delhi, taking note of the issues and complaints of people. He gave clear directions to the concerned officials to take public grievances seriously and ensure their time-bound redressal. During the public hearing, the Minister instructed departmental officers to prioritize applications related to Urban Cooperative Banks, Group Housing Societies, and Thrift & Credit Societies. He further directed that every complaint must be resolved within the stipulated time frame, and that complainants must be duly informed of the resolution in a transparent manner. Indraj reiterated that the core objective of the cooperation department is to provide citizens with transparent, accountable, and prompt services. In a first, under the minister's directives, a Complaint Box, Biometric System, and CCTV cameras have been installed at the office premises. While inaugurating these facilities, the cabinet minister stated that this initiative would help in the timely resolution of complaints and also improve the functioning of the department through constructive suggestions coming from the public. Applicants and complainants attending the public hearing welcomed this initiative by the government and thanked the minister for the move. Speaking on the occasion, Indraj said that the year 2025 is being observed as the International Year of Cooperatives, and it must be made meaningful through continuous public-oriented initiatives. He emphasized that, in line with the vision of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the department's goals should be framed around the commitment of 'Prosperity through Cooperation". ‘Release funds for conducting ‘Ungaludan Stalin' camps and don't force panchayat heads to bear expenses'
Demanding the Tamil Nadu government to release funds for organising the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps, the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Officers' Association organised demonstration at the Collectorate on Tuesday. The 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps are being organised across Tamil Nadu to redress the grievances of the public by providing solutions reportedly within 45 days to the petitions being received during these camps. After Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched this scheme on July 15 last, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu inaugurated it in Tirunelveli Town. A total of 255 camps would be organised in Tirunelveli district including the areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Tirunelveli Corporation, three municipalities – Kalakkad, Ambasamudram and Vickramasingapuram, 17 town panchayats, and 204 village panchayats in the district till October 7. In urban areas, officials attached to 13 government departments offering 43 services will participate while officials from 15 departments will be present in the camps to be held in rural areas for attending the grievances pertaining to 45 services. Since the petitioners have to submit their applications in prescribed format, the applications and awareness pamphlets are being distributed through door-to-door campaign by the volunteers even as 114 supervisors are monitoring and coordinating this exercise. Aadhar booths, police department's 'May I help you?' booths, preliminary screening health booths by the Public Health Department, E-seva centre are also be present in these camps. 'The village panchayats are being told to bear the expenses of the camps being organised in their areas. Hence, each village panchayat have to spend around ₹1.50 lakh for one camp. As only a few village panchayats are wealthy enough to meet this expense, the panchayat presidents are forced to bear this expense of ₹1.50 lakh, which encourage them to compensate this expense through some other unfair means. Hence, we are staging demonstration to urge the Tamil Nadu government for allocating sufficient funds for organising 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps,' said M. Veerbathiran, executive committee member of TNRDOA. Similar demonstrations were organised in every block of the district, the TNRDOA officials said.
