Louisiana Couple Dies In Separate Car Accidents On Same Day
An engaged couple has tragically died in separate car crashes, leaving behind a 4-year-old son. According to local news station WAFB, 25-year-old Alexus Lee and 35-year-old John 'JR' Collins were involved in fatal accidents last weekend in Louisiana. The outlet reported that Collins lost control of his vehicle while driving to the crash scene of his fiancée.
'I love them and I'm gonna miss both of them and I'm gonna find the strength to go ahead,' Collins' father shared with WAFB. Collins' mother added, 'He loved Alexus as well as everybody else who knew her. To know her was to love her.'
The couple is survived by their 4-year-old son, whom Collins' mother says is aware of the devastating events.
'He understands what happened, and he's just having a little problem comprehending that we can't talk to them,' she explained. 'We can't see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God.'
According to a statement issued by the Louisiana State Police, the two deadly crashes occurred on LA 67 in two different parishes.
Lee was involved in a single-vehicle accident in East Baton Rouge Parish after 2:00 am. Her Toyota exited the roadway to the left, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lee was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Law enforcement collected a routine toxicology sample as the investigation is completed.
Collins was traveling south on LA 67 at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, according to authorities. His vehicle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, exited the roadway to the left, and struck a tree. Collins was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. As with his fiancée, a routine toxicology sample was collected; however, impairment is not expected.

6-year-old, 12-year-old killed in Terrebonne Parish crash
TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A 6-year-old and a 12-year-old are dead following a crash that happened in Terrebonne Parish on Thursday afternoon, June 5. According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop C began investigating the crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 311 near Fellowship Lane, around 4 p.m. Hammond man accused of arson, attempted murder Troopers say a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Cherri Breaux, was heading south on the highway when at the same time, a 2023 Kenworth was heading north. For reasons that are being investigated, the Toyota tried to turn left into a driveway, entering the path of the Kenworth and being hit on the right side. The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and wasn't injured. All four of the Toyota's occupants were unrestrained and taken to multiple hospitals. Breaux received minor injuries and a juvenile passenger was moderately injured. The 12-year-old and 6-year-old passengers were severely injured and died at the hospital. A standard toxicology sample was taken from Breaux for analysis as part of the ongoing invesstigation. The massive manhunt for 10 inmates who broke out of a New Orleans jail stretched into its 12th day May 28 as two remaining escapees continued to evade authorities. The inmates fled the Orleans Parish jail on May 16. Authorities said the group pulled open defective cell doors, ripped out a toilet to create a hole in the jail and then climbed a wall to escape. Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams told USA TODAY the escape appeared to be an "inside job." At least 13 people have been arrested for allegedly aiding the inmates. Authorities are offering awards of up to $20,000 per inmate for information leading to their arrests. Louisiana State Police have pledged to "pursue every lead" until the inmates who remain at-large are once again in custody. Here's what to know about the inmates who are being sought: Two of the 10 inmates who escaped from the jail are still at-large. Kendell Myles, Robert Moody and Dkenan Dennis were taken back in custody within hours of their escape. Days later, Gary Price and Corey Boyd were nabbed in New Orleans, according to Louisiana State Police.
