The firm behind London's iconic O2 Arena is now set to begin work on the venue early in 2026 after confirming funding has been secured.
The venue, which will span a 200,000 sq ft site in the Edinburgh Park area, is due to open in March 2028, reports The Herald.
And tickets for the first show are expected to go on sale by 2027 according to the £80million project's timeline.
It will form part of the Capital's new "urban quarter" being developed in the Edinburgh Park region on the outskirts of the city.
The firm has earmarked an area north of the Edinburgh Park tram stop and train station.
Branded the Edinburgh Park Arena for the moment, event bosses are hoping to rename the building when a headline corporate sponsor is agreed.
It has been predicted to bring in more than £520million for the city's economy year on year.
AEG says they have had 'strong interest' in the naming rights for the arena, which is set to become 'one of the UK's most iconic venues" attracting huge names to Edinburgh.
The project was approved by Edinburgh city council last year, is expected to attract around 700,000 visitors a year, and create 1300 new jobs once open.
Until now, the largest indoor venues in the capital included the 3000-capacity Corn Exchange, while the Usher Hall can fit around 2900 if seats are removed.
Travis frontman Fran Healy reveals how festival favourite was almost 'never written'
The Royal Highland Centre can also accommodate around 9000 in their largest space, the Highland Hall.
Alistair Wood, executive vice-president of real estate and development at AEG Europe, said: 'Securing planning permission last year allowed us to move ahead with our plans, from progressing design work to entering discussions with contractors and sub-contractors.
'We have funding in place, and now we're in the procurement phase. Once we have a final design, suppliers and contractors we'll break ground. We hope to begin construction early in 2026.
'We're excited to start the build process as soon as possible so that we can bring world-class acts to Edinburgh.
"We're hoping that the new arena will open its doors during the first quarter of 2028, with fans able to purchase tickets to the first shows during 2027."

90s sitcom star unrecognizable ahead of reunion with castmates from hit show – can you guess who?
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SITCOM legend is set to reunite with one of her most famous co-stars – though you may not recognise her. The actress shot to fame in Home Improvement back in the 90s, but over 30 years later she's ditched her brunette locks to embrace a stunning silver. 5 This actress looks completely different to her time on the classic sitcom Credit: Getty 5 Patricia played Taylor matriarch Jill in Home Improvement Credit: Getty 5 Jill is now set to reunite with her on-screen husband, Tim Allen, for his new series Credit: Getty Patricia Richardson, now 74, found fame on the beloved ABC show as Jill Taylor, the wife of central character Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor, played by Tim Allen. The show followed the Detroit husband-and-wife duo with their three sons – Brad, Randy and Mark – as Tim hosted his own DIY show, Tool Time. Her role earned her four Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations for best actress in a comedy series. Since the series ended in 1999, Patricia took on a leading role in medical drama Strong Medicine, where she played Dr Andy Campbell for four years. Following that, she had a recurring role in the iconic political series, The West Wing. From there, she's appeared in arcs in Grey's Anatomy, NCIS and The Blacklist. But now she's coming full circle with a confirmed appearance in Tim Allen's latest sitcom, Shifting Gears, which tracks the life of a widowed car restorer. Patricia will be reuniting with her on-screen husband Tim in the season premiere on October 1st, 26 years since their time together on Home Improvement – but she won't be the only Home Improvement star dropping by. They will be joined by fellow co-stars Richard Karn, who played Al Borland and 'Tool Time Girl' Heidi Keppert star Debbe Dunning in the same episode. Running from 1991 to 1999, Patricia appeared in all 208 episodes of Home Improvement – with an average 34million American homes tuning in, making it the number one sitcom in the country. Tim Allen and Home Improvement co-stars Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning reunite 25 years after popular sitcom ended At the time, she sported a signature brown bob and bangs, and was seen trying to keep the men in her life in line – especially Tim, who she challenged about familial roles in the home. Throughout the course of the show, character Jill went from a stay-at-home mom to a career-focused psychologist, enlisting in school after losing her job as a researcher for a magazine. But she originally was hesitant to take on the most defining role of her career, having given birth to twins shortly before filming for season one began. The team were so desperate to have her on board, they made concessions for her, including a second dressing room for the babies to rest in. It was ultimately her decision, alongside Allen's, to end the show, telling LA Times in 2024: 'I told everybody, there's not enough money in the world to get me to do a ninth year. This show is over. It needs to end.' In the season finale, the family were seen moving to Indiana for the sake of Jill's career. Reflecting on the show's history, she said: 'I'm really proud of what it meant to our audience. 'I don't care what anybody says, I'm proud of the legacy.' 5 Patricia said she is 'proud of the legacy' of the series Credit: Getty

My music moles tell me the team behind Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, including director Rob Reiner, have set up camp in Stonehenge and are working on the project all week. And the production is so top secret, the ancient site in Wiltshire is closing early to the public to try to limit disturbances. A source said: 'Rob wanted to pay homage to that famous Stonehenge scene. 'They re-recorded their song Stonehenge with Sir Elton John last month and put the new music video out. 'But this concert is an extra-special surprise for fans and visually it is going to look incredible. 'The whole of Stonehenge is getting locked down from 5pm this week to allow the camera crews to set up. 'Anyone working on the concert who is approached by members of the public have been told to fob them off and say they're working on a film for English Heritage.' My mole also let slip some amazing details about what fans will see when this concert is made public. Stars of 80s comedy classic Spinal Tap reunite for sequel 40 years after first film For now, I don't want to ruin the surprise. But I will tell you! Rather than dwarves, this time around they've got a fair few druids on hand. Spinal Tap II will be released on September 12, with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all reprising their roles in the band — Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins and Derek Smalls. Rob will also be back in the frame as the documentary maker Marty DiBergi, who will follow the rockers returning to the stage after a 15-year hiatus. 13 Spinal Tap II: The End Continues production is being kept top secret Credit: Supplied 13 The Stonehenge staging blunder is one of the best moments in the first Spinal Tap film Credit: Alamy Last month Spinal Tap and Elton dropped the new video for Stonehenge, and it was a brilliant teaser of what's to come. The Living My Best Life singer revealed the site suggested basketball player Chanan as a partner at the end of 2021, and they have been together ever since. Jessie, who recently spoke about having a miscarriage before she met Chanan, recalled: 'I'd seen him on the app and I'm a creep. 'I just went and followed him on Instagram, because it's connected to Instagram. 'Then I was like, 'No, he's going to have seen what I've just gone through publicly'. 'He's not going to want to deal with me and my fame and this, so I unfollowed him. 'But I kept thinking about him and I was like, 'OK, let me follow him again'. 'He messaged me saying, 'You're way too cute to follow, unfollow, follow, to not say what you want to say'.' Jessie, who now has a son, Sky, with Chanan, added: 'I honestly felt that was the reason I had my miscarriage, because the energy of the world was going, 'You deserve to be in love doing this with someone. This is going to happen for you, so just wait'.' Praising the sportsman, she said: 'He's calm and patient, very logical and doesn't think with emotions. And I'm the opposite.' She spoke about their romance on the Great Company podcast, and presenter Jamie Laing revealed that he hadn't had any luck on Raya when he was single. He said: 'I applied and they were like, 'No. Absolutely not'.' DAKOTA'S SPLITS SCREEN 13 Dakota Johnson with actress mother Melanie Griffith Credit: Getty MUM'S the word for Dakota Johnson. The newly single Fifty Shades Of Grey star took actress mother Melanie Griffith to the LA premiere of her new film Splitsville. Dakota, who split from Chris Martin earlier this year, wore a floor-length sliver gown reminiscent of some tin foil at the back of my kitchen cupboard. The movie explores couples separating and non-monogamy, but following her own rollercoaster love life, she admitted: 'I don't think I'm qualified to give any notes on relationships.' That said, she has another special someone in her life — close pal Madonna. She told E! Online: 'I really love her. 'We've been weird friends for a while. 'She is an energy to be near that is so beautiful and so wild. 'It's cool that she even wants to talk to me.' SMALLEST GIG FOR ROBBIE 13 Robbie Williams has announced his most intimate gig yet Credit: Shutterstock Editorial ROBBIE WILLIAMS made a flying visit to an old stomping ground in Soho to announce his most intimate gig yet. He popped into The Groucho Club, his Nineties London party haunt, to reveal a show at Dingwalls in Camden on October 9. The 500-capacity gig is being billed as his smallest ever ticketed show, though he admitted many of Take That's early gigs had far less people. Rob said: 'There were a lot of shows with Take That where it was one man and his dog and they didn't pay to come. 'I am going to play Life Thru A Lens in full as well as my new album Britpop.' Britpop, out on October 10, also features a song about Morrissey, co-written with Gary Barlow. I can exclusively reveal they collaborated with the Queen guitarist on a new version of their 2014 debut single Could Have Been Me, which became a huge hit in the US and featured on the Sing 2 soundtrack. My photos show Brian alongside frontman Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott and drummer Gethin Davies on the set of a new video for the rock anthem, which will be unveiled on September 3. It marks a major return to form for Brian following a stroke last summer. It was not certain he'd ever play the guitar again. He said: 'Working with Luke and the Struts has been a joyous journey for me. 'I was inspired by the original version and felt an uncontrollable urge to mess with it! 'It carries a great positive message for rebellious kids of all ages.' Luke, who is on tour in North America with the band, added: 'Collaborating with Brian on this track is a dream realised. 'Hopefully this song will go on to inspire many more people to take life by the scruff of the neck and drink it down deeply.' JOE PLANE BONK BLUSHES 13 Joe Jonas has joined the Mile High Club Credit: Getty JOE JONAS joined the Mile High Club – but couldn't see after doing the deed. Asked in a TikTok video for an embarrassing memory, he recalled of one flight: 'I joined the Mile High Club a couple of years ago. 'I was wearing contacts, left the bathroom and thought I was high- fiving my drummer. 'After the high-five, I realised it was the flight attendant.' Quizzed on whether it was worth it, he confirmed: 'Yeah.' And Joe, left, added: 'It was a private flight or I would be banned from flying.' I can imagine the outcome would have been a bit different if he'd have been on a packed and delayed Jet2 holiday flight from Luton to Alicante. The musician completed the look with dark shades and green trainers. The Maggie May singer is a passionate Hoops fan and even got behind the bar in a Glasgow pub to serve pints to fans. He mentions them in one of his most popular hits, You're In My Heart, and along with his sons, he has a seat for life at Parkhead. It comes as Celtic prepare to host Kairat of Kazakhstan in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie tonight. Rod and his backing singers recently brought Paradise to Glastonbury as they rocked the stage in Hoops gear. He wore a green suit and shirt with 'Celtic' emblazoned on the back as he finished a sensational set on the Pyramid stage back in June. In January, the Hoops paid tribute to Rod as he celebrated his milestone 80th birthday. They surprised the music legend with a special birthday post on their social media, including photos from some of his memorable moments supporting the club. He can be seen hoisting trophies, and waving his green-and-white scarf above his head on the pitch. Rod Stewart surprises Glastonbury fans with THREE huge guests during hit-packed legends slot The rock-star splashed the cash for his special day, as he went all out to treat his close friends and family. After the birthday celebration, a source told MailOnline: "He's known to be a cheapskate but not this time. "He flew everyone to Florida first class and has told them they won't need to put their hands in their pockets for a thing." Rod recently revealed he fears he will die if he gives up touring. He said: "I enjoy going out on tour now more than I've ever done at this ripe old age of 80. "I'm doing seven concerts in Vegas and then I am everywhere around the world. "I'm playing Athens, Germany, three nights in Buenos Aires, two nights in Rio, it goes on and on and on. "It keeps me fit. You have got to be fit to do it. "I would probably die if I didn't do it. I have seen so many guys that have to give up their career and retire and they have got nothing to wake up in the morning for. "I don't know what they do with themselves. They must get up and go 'What do I do today? Down the betting shop? Have a drink?' I don't know."
