January 2025 OWL award recipients
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Samaritan Keep Home and Samaritan Summit Village announced the January 2025 OWL award recipients. The Outstanding Workers in Long-term Care Award recognizes exemplary staff who support the residents, their families and the caregivers at Samaritan's long-term care facilities.
Samaritan's December 2024 DAISY and BEE Award recipients
OWL award recipients:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Jessica Frazier at Samaritan Summit Village; and
Housekeeper Heidi Doolittle at Samaritan Keep Home.
Frazier was nominated for the OWL Award by a family member of a resident who expressed sincere appreciation for Frazier's continued care, kindness and respect.
Doolittle was nominated for the OWL Award by a fellow caregiver:
'She is always willing to help anyone in need and does so with such compassion and empathy. She is personable and a stellar environmental services employee.'
For being recognized, the OWL recipients received:
A certificate;
Special parking spot for a month;
An owl pin;
Special banner recognition;
Badge buddy; and
Various treats.
The OWL award will continue to be presented at each Samaritan long-term care facility throughout the year and residents, families or colleagues can submit nominations at any time online.

NNY Racing Recap: Can-Am returns from Memorial Day break
LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – Racing roared back over the weekend after the Memorial Day holiday across the north country. Theresa native Lance Willix picked up the victory over Watertown native Billy Dunn in the 25-lap 358-modified feature. Tyler Meeks, Derek Webb and Remington Hamm rounded out the top five. Mike Fowler collected the win in the 20-lap Sportsman division feature. Frank Sibley, Ryan Shanahan, Tyler Stevenson and Josh Reome finished out the top five. Jon Liberty (602 crate sprints), Michael Greenfield (thundercar) and Eymarah Bowman (limited sportsman) were also winners on Friday, May 31. Can-Am will be back in action on Friday, June 6 with the Pit Crew Showdown. Pits open at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing beginning at 7 p.m. Evans Mills Raceway Park Rain continued to be a problem as Saturday's May 31 program was postponed. The Zeigler 67 race was pushed back until this weekend. June 6: Relay For Life at Evans Mills This weekend's scheduled card will be legends night with the pits opening at 3 p.m. Saturday. British tourist killed in jet ski accident in Albania
A British tourist has died and another is in critical condition following a jet ski accident in Albania. The 34-year-old man lost his life after coming off a jet ski near the Kavaja Rock area in Durrës on Sunday morning (1 June). The two British citizens reportedly lost control of the jet ski and fell into the sea. Emergency services responded to the incident at Durrës Port, where the man was declared dead. An unidentified 31-year-old British woman was also 'transported to hospital in serious condition' following the incident, said border police. Durrës police told Albania news outlet CNA: 'At around 11:15, on 01.06.2025, the Port Durrës Border Police services were notified that, in the area opposite the Kavaja Rock, two citizens who were sailing on a jet ski, are suspected of having lost control of the vessel during manoeuvres and fallen into the water.' 'Border Police Services, after receiving the notification, immediately went by watercraft to assist the two citizens who had fallen into the water, transporting them to the port, with the aim of transporting them to the hospital.' According to A2 CNN, Durrës police have since arrested the jet ski provider for operating without full documentation and life jackets for customers. The Foreign Office said that it had not been approached for assistance in this case.
