Kim Carnes allegedly takes swipe at JoJo Siwa's "Bette Davis Eyes" cover in now-deleted post

Express Tribune3 days ago
Kim Carnes, the original voice behind the Grammy-winning hit Bette Davis Eyes, appeared to express disapproval of JoJo Siwa's recent cover of the song in a now-deleted TikTok post.
Carnes shared a throwback clip of her music video for the 1981 classic, performing in a black pantsuit and sunglasses.
The post was accompanied by a caption that read, 'There is a difference between singing a song.... And embodying it.... I've always believed authenticity is what makes music timeless.' She added, 'I'm forever grateful to be the voice behind this one..... Bette Davis Eyes.'
Though Carnes did not name JoJo Siwa directly, her comments were posted just two days after JoJo's teaser of the cover began circulating online.
The 22-year-old former Dance Moms star recreated the iconic look of Bette Davis, singing, 'She knows just what it takes to make a pro blush... she's got Bette Davis eyes.'
JoJo hinted that more could be coming, writing, 'I'm undecided if I should release it on Spotify or not…. Would you want me to?!!!' She previously performed the track live and altered the lyrics to reference her boyfriend, singing 'Chris Hughes' eyes.'
The viral clip triggered mixed reactions and parodies, sparking conversations around reinterpretation and vocal authenticity.

Influencer Marta Díaz fends off robbery attempt on Barcelona train, after Lamine Yamal's bash

Influencer Marta Díaz recently opened up about a distressing experience she had while traveling back to Madrid after attending Barcelona star Lamine Yamal's 18th birthday celebration. In a TikTok post, Díaz described how she was targeted by a thief on the high-speed AVE train, a situation that took a terrifying turn when her suitcase went missing just before the train departed. Díaz noticed a man acting suspiciously, giving her a strange look that made her uneasy. 'I didn't feel good about him,' she said, recalling her discomfort. After settling in the train, she realized her suitcase was gone. In panic, she searched the train, repeatedly exclaiming, 'It's not here, it's not here.' @maarta_diaz Honestamente me asusté mucho la verdad, pero bueno solo que llevéis cuidado! ❤️ ♬ sonido original - maarta_diaz Fortunately, Díaz managed to spot the thief at the back of the train, calmly walking with her suitcase in hand. 'He acted like he didn't know anything. I was in shock,' Díaz recalled. With the help of another traveler, Díaz was able to retrieve her suitcase. In her video, she urged her followers to stay vigilant, warning that a mere second of distraction could lead to theft, whether in Barcelona or anywhere else. In the same video, she expressed her gratitude to the young man who helped her track down the thief. Meanwhile, her brother, David Díaz (known online as Alphasniper97), took to social media to ask for the boy's help in identifying him, offering a gift in return. The robbery incident came just days after Marta attended Lamine Yamal's lavish birthday party, a 'mafia-themed' event that has sparked significant controversy. Photos and details of the party began circulating, revealing that individuals with dwarfism had been hired to perform at the event. Photo: Instagram/X The Spanish government is now investigating allegations of discrimination, with the Association of People with Dwarfism (ADEE) condemning the hiring of entertainers with dwarfism. The backlash surrounding Yamal's birthday has been swift. ADEE president Carolina Puente called the event 'unacceptable,' emphasizing that people with dwarfism should not be used as entertainment at private parties. While Yamal has yet to comment on the criticism, one performer hired for the event defended the party, insisting they were treated with respect and had a great time. Díaz, who was also a guest at the birthday bash, shared images of her dress code for the event, a 'mafia' theme, and her own experience. The 18-year-old footballer's celebration has stirred debate about the treatment of individuals with disabilities, while Díaz's experience highlights the continuing concerns of safety and respect during high-profile events.

Usher channels old-school New York cool in his new Ralph Lauren campaign

Usher is embracing a new creative era as the face of Ralph Lauren Fragrances' latest launch, Ralph's Club New York Eau de Parfum. Known for reinventing himself across music, fashion, and entertainment, the eight-time Grammy winner now steps into the world of scent, bringing his signature sophistication to the iconic brand. The fragrance, infused with lavender, bourbon, and sandalwood, is a nod to the golden age of New York and the smooth elegance of legends like Frank Sinatra. Inspired by the city's energy, Usher composed an original track for the campaign, reimagining Sinatra's classic 'New York, New York' with his own melodic twist. 'It was about creating something timeless, yet mine,' he told L'Officiel. Usher spoke of the city as more than a backdrop. 'New York is where I started. It shaped me,' he said, reflecting on the city's role in fashion, music, and culture. 'You can get lost in New York, and that's the beauty of it. You find yourself.' The campaign's visuals were crafted by top talent, including director Jacob Sutton and photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, alongside choreographer Tariq Patterson. The result is a dynamic short film blending the luxury of Studio 54-era nightlife with Harlem Renaissance flair and modern-day elegance. While the new song won't be released widely, Usher hints at its staying power. 'If people love it, who knows what might happen?' For Usher, the collaboration goes beyond celebrity branding, it's personal legacy. 'This project reflects who I've been and who I am now,' he said. 'To work with a house like Ralph Lauren, it's timeless. It means something.'

Child's excited reaction to seeing Dolly Parton at Dollywood goes viral

A child's enthusiastic reaction to seeing Dolly Parton at Dollywood has gone viral across TikTok and Reddit. The clip, originally shared by TikTok user Jordan April Ramey in March, shows the child waving his arms and shouting 'Oh my God' as Parton passes by in a carriage during a Dollywood event. Parton spots the child and points to him, prompting louder cheers. The TikTok video was captioned, 'Please Watch! Our 8 year old seeing @Dolly Parton for the first time!' using hashtags including #passholderday and #superfan. At the time of posting, the video had gained 6.6 million views and 1.5 million likes on TikTok. Over the weekend, TikTok account @the615house shared the clip again, adding, 'Honestly everyone else is underreacting.' The repost has since received over 619,800 views, 80,800 likes, and more than 370 comments. The video was also posted to Reddit, where user u/jlovelysoul described the child's reaction to seeing the 10-time Grammy Award winner as 'the only appropriate reaction.' The post received 24,000 upvotes and over 250 comments, with other users echoing similar sentiments, calling the moment 'incredibly valid' and praising the child's excitement. Dollywood, located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is the state's most-visited tourist attraction and has long been associated with Parton, who partnered with the Herschend Brothers in the 1980s to transform the park. Parton's upcoming book, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage, is set for release on 11 November 11, sharing stories and photos from her career.
