20 Of The Worst, Biggest Screw-Ups Of Human History

Buzz Feeda day ago

Recently, a post from a now-deleted Reddit account on the popular Ask Reddit page caught my attention. The post asked, "What's been the biggest fuck-up in the history of humans?" and naturally, I had to share. Here are some of the most on-the-money answers:
"Putting screens in the hands of toddlers."
"The US government planting kudzu in the 1930s (as a make-work project) all over the southern US to combat erosion. The vine has swallowed up entire forests."
"The Khwarazmian Empire, while never quite a world player, was still a considerably-sized nation of the ancient world. Never heard of it? There's a reason why..."
"In 1218, a party of Mongolian emissaries was sent by Genghis Khan to open possible trade routes. The local governor, who was the uncle of the Khwarazmian Shah Muhammad II, had the party arrested. He apparently suspected it was a trap, though it appears to have been a genuine gesture of trade negotiation. We'll call this arrest 'Fuck-up #1.'Displaying an unusual amount of patience for a man of his reputation, Genghis then sent three ambassadors to try and diplomatically resolve the situation. Shah Muhammad II refused to punish his dear old uncle for his actions, and instead decided to execute at least one of the Mongolian ambassadors, or possibly all three. He sent the severed head of one ambassador back to Genghis Khan as a lovely little parting gift, which was 'Fuck-up #2.'
"There was no 'Fuck-up #3,' for Genghis then decided that the 'fucking around' phase was over for the Khwarazmians, and the time of 'finding out' had begun."
"On this note, one of the biggest policy fuck-ups is the Mongol policy of having to return back to Mongolia to elect a new khan after the death of the old one. This single policy outright halted many of their major campaigns and subsequently saved much of Europe and Asia from the all-conquering Mongol armies."
"Microplastics are going to be the lead of this decade."
"Adding lead to gasoline."
"I mean, Japan attacking Pearl Harbor can be on this list too. It set off a series of fuck-ups."
"When Noah allowed those two mosquitoes on the ark. I mean, seriously, dude???"
"The invention and widespread use of plastics."
"In terms of death attributable to a single individual? Lysenko and his agricultural reforms."
"This is what happens when you appoint an unqualified political loyalist instead of a real expert. Lysenko's only real skill was sucking up to the party. RFK Jr. is this generation's Lysenko."
"Prince Arthur Tudor dying shortly after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon, and leaving Henry to replace him as heir to the English throne."
"It will be AI."
"Turning Hitler away from art school."
"Despite the fact that I am using the internet, I'm going to make a case that the internet is our biggest fuck-up."
"Not decarbonizing in time to prevent catastrophic global warming. We're heading full throttle for the cliff right now, with no brakes."
"Plastic. Social media. Nuclear bombs."
"Using PFAS in almost everything through the '90s. Thanks, now the world is contaminated and everyone is getting cancer."
"The moment our species decided that we could turn healthcare into a for-profit business, I think, will turn out to be one of the most epically stupid and relentlessly human things we have ever collectively thought up."
"When Benito Mussolini declared war on the Allies, over 40% of Italy's naval warships were in foreign ports. Upon declaring war, they were seized immediately by the foreign countries they resided in."
"The last season of Game of Thrones."
And a final thought to leave you with: "We probably don't know about it."
So, what do you think of these? Were any big screw-ups left out? Let me know down in the comments! Or, if you have something to share but want to do so anonymously, you can check out this anonymous comment form.

Royal Caribbean waiter saves passengers in freak cruise accident

Royal Caribbean waiter saves passengers in freak cruise accident originally appeared on Come Cruise With Me. It's not uncommon for cruise passengers to commend cruise ship crew members for treating their guests like family. No matter which cruise line you sail, you'll notice that passengers love to gush about the wonderful crew members they've met during their sailings who demonstrate genuine care for their guests over and over each cruise you take, you'll grow more accustomed to hearing these stories, and you'll probably come away with a few stories of your own to share, too. But although cruise ship crew members are well known for going above and beyond for their guests, sometimes they even amaze passengers by turning into superheroes at sea. Passengers on board Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas just experienced one of these moments as a freak accident transformed a beloved dining server into a "Hero of the Seas." His quick thinking and super speed resulted in multiple passengers being moved out of harm's way seconds before disaster struck the pool deck on June Symphony of the Seas docked in Port Canaveral, Florida — the ship's first port of call on a seven-night cruise from Cape Liberty, N.J. — something highly unusual happened. While serving guests in the ship's Coastal Kitchen restaurant, Royal Caribbean's Nitin Kumar suddenly left his tables and zoomed down to the pool deck two decks below. Kumar was on a hero's mission to move passengers out from underneath one of the restaurant's windows as it cracked, and then shattered. Seconds after the passengers moved, glass rained down on their lounge chairs.A number of passengers quickly took to social media to share accounts of the incident. 'We were in Coastal Kitchen three windows over from where it broke. We were in the middle of our 180 spin and the ship was vibrating pretty good. Most people seem to think that the vibrations/micro cracks in the tempered glass caused it,' wild_n_free explained in the Royal Caribbean community on Reddit. 'Thankfully no one was seriously injured other than one person cutting their foot.' Although the glass was tempered, which means it breaks into smaller, less dangerous pieces, passenger injuries would have been much more significant if Kumar hadn't leapt into a public Facebook group for the June 6-13 sailing of Symphony of the Seas, passengers celebrated Kumar for his heroic act. 'You are truly an asset to Royal Caribbean and a hero to the many people you removed from harm's way,' Kathy Crisolo Sandoval posted, along with a photo of the shattered glass on the pool deck. Hundreds of other passengers chimed in to applaud Kumar as well. 'We were in Coastal Kitchen when this shattered and for Nitin to have foresight to run to the pool to get everyone out of the way is remarkable. RCCL should give him an accommodation for his actions,' Donna Schmitt wrote.'Nitin = Hero Of The Seas,' Josh Merante added. The post even made its way to the "Hero of the Seas" himself, who graciously thanked his guests. 'Thank you so much everyone for appreciation. You all are my family. What I did, I did for family,' Kumar commented. 'I'm friendly, passionate, and committed, and I'm Royal. What I did I learned from this company how to take care of my guests like family. So, thank you so much.' Royal Caribbean later presented Kumar with the Royal Way Hero Award for his "exemplary display of safety, honesty, and bravery in the workplace." 19 Slang Words Gen Z'ers Hijacked From Older Adults

The new and constantly evolving slang nowadays can confuse anyone, but older adults have another bone to pick with it. Recently, Redditor u/GrannyMayJo asked the older adults of the Reddit community to share the words or phrases younger people have "hijacked" that bother them, and I never even thought about some of these. Here are some slang words or phrases that used to mean one thing before, but mean a totally new thing now: "'Body count.'" —Hayabusalvr11"It's weird seeing this right now. I just watched a video of a street interviewer asking an older man what his body count was, and he said, 'Uh, three.' The interviewer said, 'Only three?' The Guy said, 'Yeah, just three.' Then the interviewer asked, 'What do you think I'm asking you right now?' And the guy calmly responded, 'How many people I've killed.'"—Robert_Hotwheel "I'm confused by young people saying 'you ate that' as a way to say 'you did that well.' Growing up, any time someone used 'eat' in that context, it usually meant something bad, like 'eat shit' or 'eat my dust.'" "'Out of pocket' used to mean you paid for something for business use, and now the company owes you money. Or it just means what your insurance doesn't pay. Now, it just means 'wacky' or 'uncalled for.'" "Apparently, 'crashing out' now means losing your shit instead of falling asleep." "I miss when 'hooking up' simply meant meeting someone. Like, 'Let's hook up later at the mall.' I'm a college professor, and I've made a bunch of apparently hilarious statements in class with that type of lingo before anyone explained to me how the phrase has changed. It's ruined to me now." "The whole 'red pill/blue pill.' That one really pisses me off. It originated with The Matrix in 1999, and it's now been hijacked by incels and male supremacy groups to describe anything they disagree with." —Prize_Sorbet3366 "'POV.' To me, this is a very specific term from film and screenwriting that means 'Point of View.' As in, literally filmed as if we are seeing things through the eyes of a character. Now, this term just gets thrown around with seemingly every TikTok video as a general term for someone's viewpoint or opinion." '"Goat' has completely flipped from being someone you blamed for messing up (short for scapegoat) to stating something is the best (GOAT)." "They refer to a regularly-packed dance floor as a 'mosh pit.'" "'Cornhole.' The word used to refer to anal sex, but now it's just a game played with beanbags." —ItsAlwaysMonday "I hate that 'psych' turned into 'sike.'" "It used to be bad to get 'duped' (tricked or deceived). Now, it's a good thing and means a copy or duplicate of a pricier product at a cheaper price." "'Goon.' It used to describe people doing something silly. Now, it's used for horny people." "'Gaslighting.' It used to only refer to playing tricks on someone to make them think they were losing their mind. Now, whenever someone gets lied to by another person, that person says they're being gaslighted." —hoosiergirl1962 "'Low-key.' It used to mean quiet, subtle, clandestine, etc. Now, it exactly? 'Sort of?' Ruined a perfectly good term with a rich history." "Whenever I hear someone say they want to 'level up' their kitchen, I always think, I've got a housejack they could borrow." "'Hack.' A hack is now used to describe any common-sense tip for doing something: 'New hack for avoiding dehydration.' Like, just DRINK WATER!?" —duckfartchickenass "I can't stand the use of 'rawdogging' for anything other than its original meaning. It's so crude. Do young people not hear what they're saying?" Lastly: "'Cringe' used to refer to a facial expression one makes when experiencing any kind of discomfort: 'I cringed at the sight of my aunt's disgusting casserole.' Now, it's an adjective used to describe something uncool or embarrassing: 'That dress is cringe.'" Honestly, I'm an older Gen Z'er, and I still can't keep up with the slang. Like, WTF does 'glazing' mean?! If you're an older adult, what term or phrase has lost its original meaning thanks to modern slang? Band removed from legendary metal group's farewell concert

Sharon Osbourne has pulled a band from her husband Ozzy's historic farewell concert for Black Sabbath. The music manager told Metal Hammer that one band was removed from Back to the Beginning concert — scheduled for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England — due to a dispute with the artist's manager. 'I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath. And it was probably the worst way I've felt in years,' Osbourne said without revealing the act's identity. 'I don't care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn't know me. And he's now going around making up (expletive) lies because I threw his band off the bill,' she continued. 'I don't care what people say. Because do you know what? I don't love them. I care about people who love me, what they say about me. You can't care what an industry says, because you don't love them, so how can it hurt you? It doesn't.' While it's unclear who was pulled from the show, Billboard reported it wasn't Iron Maiden, despite previously clashing with Bruce Dickinson at Ozzfest in 2005. 'Oh god, no. Ozzy only has respect for the guys in Maiden,' Sharon told Metal Hammer. 'I never told him, until the night that it happened when it was the last show, and he just looked at me and goes, 'You're terrible.'' Tool is also still on the bill, NME confirmed. The Maynard James Keenan-led group's name was missing from promotional materials when a global livestream was announced for the concert last week, sparking rumors on Reddit that they were nixed from the festival. Other confirmed performers include Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Mastodon and Rival Sons. The event will also feature performances from Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), David Draiman (Disturbed), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Mike Bordin (Faith No More), Sleep Token II (Sleep Token), Papa V Perpetua (Ghost) Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) and Zakk Wylde. Back to the Beginning will mark Ozzy Osbourne's final performance both on his own and with Black Sabbath. The 'Prince of Darkness' will be joined by his bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time in two decades. Tickets sold out quickly, but fans can now purchase tickets to stream the concert online. Proceeds from the show will benefit charities like Cure Parkinson's, the Birmingham Children's Hospital and Acorn Children's Hospice. Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham in 1968 and went on to become one of the most successful metal bands of all time. The band is credited with helping to define metal genre with the albums 'Black Sabbath,' 'Paranoid,' and 'Master of Reality.' Black Sabbath was ranked by MTV as the 'Greatest Metal Band of All Time' and placed second on VH1's '100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock' list in 2000. Rolling Stone also ranked the band 85th on its '100 Greatest Artists of All Time' list in 2010. The band has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, received multiple gold and platinum certifications from the RIAA and won two Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Black Sabbath was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. The last time Black Sabbath's original lineup was together was in 2005. The band went on a hiatus in 2006 before disbanding in 2009. The original lineup reunited once again in 2011, though Ward left before the band released its final studio album, and 19th overall, '13″ in 2013. Black Sabbath's last show was during the band's 'The End Tour' in Birmingham, England in 2017.
