Three Belgian Firms To Visit Lumut Maritime Industrial City In June
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the companies are Belgian Scrap Terminal (BST), Soenen Group Green Vessel Recycling, and Steinberg Logistics International.
'BST specialises in separating recyclable materials and has expertise in dismantling and recycling old ships.
'Soenen focuses on sustainable ship disposal and refurbishment, while Steinberg offers integrated logistics services that support the maritime industry ecosystem,' he told a press conference after the State Government's Customer Engagement Day (Series 3/2025) here today.
Saarani added that French multinational company Saint-Gobain, which operates in the Kanthan Industrial Park, Chemor, has also expressed interest in expanding its operations.
He said the company plans to invest an additional RM200 million, and the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) has proposed relocating its operations to the Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP).
'Saint-Gobain has visited SVTP to evaluate its suitability for the new investment,' he said.
On a separate matter, Saarani addressed public complaints about livestock roaming on roads, which pose safety risks to motorists. He urged farmers to use designated grazing areas to help resolve the issue.
'The presence of roaming animals not only disrupts farming activities but also endangers road users.

Masidi KOTA KINABALU (Aug 13): Sabah's Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun has refuted claims by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal that the RM1 billion State Government bond repayment in 2019 was an extraordinary achievement of the Warisan administration. 'The repayment was never a sudden burden. It was planned since 2014 under a Bank Negara Malaysia requirement to set up a Sinking Fund, with RM200 million allocated annually over five years. By the time Warisan came into office, the funds were already budgeted, and only the final RM380 million instalment was tabled during their tenure,' he said in a statement on Wednesday. Masidi was replying to the statement of the Warisan president regarding the repayment of the RM1 billion State Government bond in 2019. He stressed that allegations of RM500 million from the bond proceeds being spent in another state were 'unfounded and irresponsible.' 'Official records are crystal clear, RM544 million repaid the first State Government bond from 2009, and RM456 million financed development projects under Sabah's 2014 Budget. Not a single sen went to another state,' he said. Masidi reiterated that repaying the bond was a legal and contractual obligation, not an optional gesture. 'The financial discipline enabling this repayment was put in place in 2014, not 2018. Public discussion on State finances must be based on documented facts, not politically convenient narratives. The people of Sabah deserve nothing less,' he said.

Sibu journalists get gadget vouchers, flight subsidies from association
SIBU: The Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) has rolled out two new welfare benefits for its members, including a RM250 gadget voucher and RM200 flight subsidy. SJA deputy chairman Mohamad Alhadi Shamsawi said the RM250 PC Image voucher will be distributed in 2026 to help journalists upgrade their work equipment. 'Many journalists use their own money to buy gadgets for assignments, so this initiative aims to ease their burden,' he said at the SJA Sibu Hawana 2025 Dinner. The RM200 subsidy is for members purchasing flight tickets under a Communications Ministry and AirAsia partnership offering 50% discounts to ASEAN destinations. 'If a discounted ticket costs RM400, members can claim RM200 cashback from SJA,' he explained. Alhadi also announced RM100 birthday 'angpao' for members born between July and December 2025, following a similar payout earlier this year. SJA introduced the Tokoh Wartawan SJA 2025 Award, honouring veteran journalists with a trophy and RM1,500 cash prize. This year's recipient is former Bernama correspondent Edward Subeng Stephen, who served in journalism for over 40 years. SJA National Journalists Day (Hawana) 2025 organising chairman Mohamad Alhadi Shamsawi said under the first initiative, each member will receive an RM250 PC Image next year. The voucher can be used to buy new gadgets for daily tasks, such as new earphones or earbuds, and power banks. 'This voucher is given because we know that many of us have to spend our own money to upgrade our gadgets for our work. At least the amount can ease our members' financial burden for the purchase of gadgets,' he said during the SJA Hawana 2025 celebration last night. He said the second initiative is in support of the Communications Ministry's collaboration with AirAsia, which is offering a 50 per cent discount for tickets to various destinations in Asean. 'SJA hereby announces RM200 cashback initiative per person to purchase flight tickets to their chosen destinations. 'This means that if the ticket costs RM400 after the 50 per cent discount, you can claim a RM200 cashback from SJA for the flight ticket,' he said. Mohamad Alhadi said the two new initiatives would hopefully see a new chapter in for SJA as an association that truly cares about the welfare of its members regardless of their media organisation. He said the initiatives implemented by SJA previously were RM150 contribution to members' Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account, provision of parking coupons worth RM50, and RM100 birthday gift per person.
