French buyers to participate in flagship event at Mihas 2025 in September
Hosted by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) and organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), Mihas continues to serve as the world's largest halal trade exhibition – bringing together buyers, sellers and industry leaders from more than 90 countries.
This year, five French buyers from the modest fashion and food and beverage sectors are confirmed to participate in Mihas's flagship International Sourcing Programme.
Malaysia's ambassador to France, Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, said Mihas is more than a trade event – it is a global platform for innovation, sustainability and quality.
'Halal is increasingly recognised worldwide as a value-based certification that ensures safety, cleanliness and integrity. It is not just for Muslims – it represents a trusted system of quality control, traceability and ethical assurance for all consumers. I am delighted to see significant French participation this year, as Malaysia continues to build bridges across Halal economies and open new avenues for global partnerships,' he added.
In line with current market trends, Mihas also showcases products that emphasise organic, vegan and sustainable practices, broadening its appeal to the conscious consumer segment worldwide
According to the Halal Industry Master Plan, demand for halal products is estimated at over US$3 trillion (RM12.8 trillion) and is projected to reach US$5 trillion by 2030.
'Beyond Malaysia, Mihas is a strategic gateway to the wider Asean market of over 680 million people,' said Sebastien Chan Yik Sing, the newly appointed economic counsellor at the Malaysian embassy in Paris.
'French buyers can leverage Mihas not only to source quality halal products, but also to connect with the fast-growing Asean market through Malaysia's trusted and well-established halal ecosystem.'
In 2024, Mihas recorded RM4.3 billion in sales and welcomed over 43,000 visitors. The upcoming 21st edition, themed 'Pinnacle of Halal Excellence', aims to surpass these milestones with a sales target of RM4.5 billion, featuring cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools via the Madani Digital Trade Platform to enhance real-time sourcing, matchmaking and trade connections.

Tengku Zafrul officially joins PKR
OSAKA: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafru Abdul Azizl is now officially a PKR member. The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister confirmed that the party had accepted his membership application. He is now a member of the Ampang PKR division. 'I can confirm that I have applied (to join) the party and I have informed the secretary-general on the matter,' he said when met by the Malaysian media at the Malaysia Pavilion in World Expo 2025. Asked if his membership application had been accepted, Tengku Zafrul answered in the affirmative. 'Yes,' he said, adding that his membership was approved following the party's leadership council meeting about two weeks ago. In May, Tengku Zafrul submitted his resignation letter as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division chief and as a party member. He then said that he would begin the application process of being a PKR member and had expressed the intention to the PKR president. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is PKR president. Tengku Zafrul's departure from Umno comes just days after two PKR stalwarts – Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad – had resigned as Economy Minister and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, respectively. Rafizi had lost his deputy presidency in the PKR party elections, while Nik Nazmi lost his position as vice-president. Tengku Zafrul had quit as Selangor Umno treasurer in April last year, and speculation has been rife since late last year that he would leave the party to join PKR.

Tengku Zafrul joins Ampang PKR division
OSAKA: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has confirmed that his application to join PKR was accepted two weeks ago. The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said he is now a member of the Ampang PKR division. "I don't remember the exact date my application was accepted, but it was during a meeting of the party's Central Leadership Council (MPP) two weeks ago," he told Malaysian media here today during a visit to the Malaysia Pavilion in conjunction with Expo 2025 Osaka. On May 30, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from Umno.

Singapore, China and Malaysia dominate the foreign investment market in Indonesia
JAKARTA, Aug 8 (Bernama-ANTARA): Head of Indonesia's Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Hasan Nasbi, identified Singapore and Malaysia as among the five main countries with the largest investments in Indonesia as of August 2025. In a press conference at the PCO Office in Jakarta on Thursday, he stated that the data demonstrates foreign investors' confidence in the national economic prospects under President Prabowo Subianto's administration. "Of the five countries that have invested the most in Indonesia, Singapore is the largest investor, with an investment value of US$8.8 billion," he said reported ANTARA news agency. Also in Indonesia, he added that Hong Kong and China investments also reached more than US$8 billion, while Malaysia's investment was US$1.7 billion, and Japan's investment was US$1.6 billion. The five largest sectors attracting foreign investment included the basic metals industry, transportation and telecommunications, mining, services, and the housing and industrial estates sector. "These investments have been realised. This means they are truly investing here, not just commitments or promises," he stated. The total realised investment value as of August 2025 was recorded at Rp942.9 trillion, or nearly 50 per cent of the annual target of Rp1,900 trillion. He said that the achievement became a strong signal that Indonesia remains a prime global investment destination. - Bernama-ANTARA
