Unity key to making India worlds greatest nation: Ladakh MP
New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) Ladakh MP Mohmad Haneefa on Thursday said all communities and religious groups contributed to India's freedom struggle, and unity is key to making India the world's strongest nation.
In a message a day ahead of the 79th Independence Day, the Ladakh MP paid tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
'I congratulate everyone on the 79th Independence Day. This freedom was not easy to get, many sacrifices were made by people," Haneefa told PTI.
'Every time there has been a war, our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives on the borders. I salute all the soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country," he said.
Haneefa, who is from the Kargil region of Ladakh, said he has spent his childhood around soldiers of the Indian Army.
'I know in what situation our Army guards our borders. I come from a border area, Kargil in Ladakh, where we have spent our childhood amid soldiers — whether snow, heat or rain, they stay there guarding the border," he said.
'I appeal to the people, there are many sacrifices behind this freedom," he said.
The Ladakh MP said people of all communities and religions have sacrificed for the nation. 'We should contribute towards protecting the unity in the country. To make it the world's strongest nation, we should rise above narrow differences," he said. PTI AO KSS KSS

In an interview with news agency ANI, Jeffrey Sachs accused Donald Trump of acting out of hostility toward the BRICS bloc, which includes India, China, Russia, Brazil and South Africa. 'This makes no sense. It's not true. It's failing. Putting the surcharge on India was as stupid as it could be from any norm. It serves no purpose," he said. Foreign Secretary Misri to visit Nepal on Sunday
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Kathmandu, Aug 16 (PTI) India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will arrive in Kathmandu on Sunday on a two day official visit to Nepal to discuss connectivity, development cooperation and other matters of mutual interest, it was announced on Saturday. The foreign secretary of India, who is visiting Nepal at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai, is scheduled to call on high-level dignitaries in the Himalayan nation. 'During Misri's visit, the two foreign secretaries will hold discussions on various aspects of Nepal-India partnership, with focus on connectivity, development cooperation and other matters of mutual interest," Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Misri will leave Kathmandu on August 18 after wrapping up his visit. In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India attaches high priority to its relations with Nepal under its Neighbourhood First policy. 'The foreign secretary's upcoming visit continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and will be an opportunity to further advance our bilateral ties," the MEA said. People familiar with the matter said the main focus of Misri's engagements in Kathmandu will be on preparing the ground for Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's trip to New Delhi next month. Oli is likely to visit India around September 16, according to diplomatic sources. However, the official announcement is yet to be made.
