GCCs critical enabler of India's $1 trillion services export vision, says senior Deloitte official Romal Shetty

India Gazette4 days ago
New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): India holds the potential to unlock an economic contribution of USD 470-600 billion by 2030 through GCCs (Global Capability Centres) and it would be a critical enabler of India's USD 1 trillion services export vision, Romal Shetty, CEO, Deloitte South Asia, said on Monday.
Speaking at the CII GCC Business Summit, Shetty said India currently hosts approximately 1,800 GCCs.
'With the right policy environment, ecosystem support, and coordinated action, there is a realistic aspiration to scale this to 3,400-5,000 centres over the next few years,' he said.
He said 67 per cent of Fortune 500 and 77 per cent of Forbes Global 2000 companies are yet to setup GCCs.
Mid-market companies (USD 100M-USD1B in revenue) contributed to 35 per cent of new GCC setups over the last two years, Shetty asserted.
'This growth could enable the sector to support 20-25 million jobs by 2030--up to 5 million direct, and the remainder through indirect and induced impact across real estate, supply chains,' he said.
'It also holds the potential to unlock an economic contribution of USD 470-600 billion by 2030, factoring in direct output as well as ecosystem-level effects. This would position GCCs as a critical enabler of India's USD 1 trillion services export vision.'
GCCs are also evolving into innovation hubs, he said, adding over 70 per cent of GCCs now focus on digital product development--not just service delivery--necessitating proximity to innovation ecosystems.
Referring to Indian startups as key co-creation partners, he said 1.8 lakh+ startups and 100+ unicorns strengthen the provision of a vibrant innovation pipeline for GCCs to source frontier solutions.
GCCs are offshore facilities set up by multinational corporations to manage a variety of business functions and processes for their parent organisations. (ANI)

TMC Jabe, Tabhi Ashol Poriborton Ashbe: PM Modi Attacks Mamata Banerjees Govt In Durgapur

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a public rally in Durgapur on Friday, launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of obstructing West Bengal's development and forcing the youth to migrate in search of jobs. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for multiple projects worth over Rs 5,000 crore, the Prime Minister said, 'Real change will come only when the TMC government goes. 'TMC jabe, tabhi ashol poriborton ashbe'.' #WATCH | West Bengal | Addressing a public rally in Durgapur, PM Narendra Modi says, "Bengal wants change, development..." (Video Source: DD News) — ANI (@ANI) July 18, 2025 He further added, 'The TMC government here stands like a wall blocking Bengal's development. The day this wall of the TMC government falls, Bengal will begin a new and rapid phase of progress.' In a pointed reference to the economic decline under TMC's rule, PM Modi said, 'Today, the youth of West Bengal are being forced to migrate. Even for small jobs, they have to move to other states. Once upon a time, regions like Durgapur, Bardhaman, and Asansol played a vital role in India's industrial growth. But today, instead of setting up new industries, even the existing ones are shutting down. We must pull Bengal out of this difficult phase, and the projects launched today are a symbol of that very effort.' Calling Durgapur a vital part of India's industrial landscape, the Prime Minister stated, 'Being a steel city, Durgapur is also the hub of India's manpower. Durgapur plays a significant role in the country's development... These development projects will increase connectivity and strengthen the identity of the steel city.' PM Modi highlighted various development projects launched in the state, which span sectors including oil and gas, power, roads, and railways. He pointed out the government's focus on modernising infrastructure, saying, 'Today, factories in Durgapur and Raghunathpur are being equipped with new technology. An investment of Rs 1,500 crore has been made in these... I congratulate the people of West Bengal on the completion of these projects. We are working with the resolve of making 'Viksit Bharat by 2047'.' He also underlined the transformation in connectivity, particularly in railways, 'A lot of work has been done to improve rail connectivity in West Bengal. West Bengal is one of the states in the country where Vande Bharat trains are being run in large numbers. Kolkata Metro is being expanded... Railway stations are being modernised... Today, two new railway overbridges have been dedicated to West Bengal.' Highlighting the significance of the Durgapur-Kolkata gas pipeline, PM Modi said it would boost industrial growth and generate employment. 'The Durgapur-Kolkata gas pipeline will breathe new life into the industries here. The BJP-led central government is investing thousands of crores of rupees in this gas pipeline so that CNG-powered vehicles can run in the region, helping you save money and boosting the establishment of new factories. Most importantly, this will create new employment opportunities for the youth of Bengal," he said. Referring to long-standing infrastructure gaps, the Prime Minister remarked, 'For many decades after Independence, a gas connection was just a dream for millions of families in West Bengal. In recent years, such families have finally received gas connections. Now, our effort is to ensure that just like water comes from a tap, affordable gas reaches your kitchen through pipelines.' Striking an emotional chord with the people of the state, PM Modi said, 'It is the holy month of 'Sawan' and during this holy time, I got the opportunity to join the celebration of West Bengal's development. BJP has big dreams for West Bengal and wants to develop 'Viksit West Bengal'.' He concluded his address by reiterating the people's desire for political and economic transformation, stating, 'Bengal wants change, Bengal wants development... The people of Bengal understand that the 21st century is an era of new technology. Bengal's industries also need modern technology...'

Inside India's plan to locally make 600,000 AK-203 rifles in Amethi by 2030

The AK-203 assault rifles being manufactured in Amethi's Korwa by Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) are set to be completely indigenous by the end of 2025. As of now, 50 per cent of the components and processes are already locally sourced, and full indigenisation is on track, according to IRRPL CEO and MD Major General SK Sharma. "If you ask a soldier, then his most reliable friend is an assault rifle... AK-203 will be the most reliable thing in the future," Sharma told news agency ANI. He added that the Indian armed forces will receive 70,000 rifles by the end of this year, of which 48,000 have already been delivered. Delivery timeline to beat deadline by nearly two years Under a ₹5,200 crore contract, IRRPL is to supply 601,427 AK-203 rifles to the Indian armed forces by October 2032. However, the company now aims to complete deliveries by December 2030 — almost two years ahead of schedule. Currently, production is scaling up. An additional 7,000 rifles will be delivered in the next few weeks, with 15,000 more expected by December 2025. From 2026 onwards, monthly production will reach 12,000 rifles, helping meet the early completion target. 'Sher' replaces INSAS in border forces The AK-203, named "Sher" in India, is a modernised version of the classic Kalashnikov. Lighter than the INSAS (3.8 kg vs 4.15 kg), it is set to become the standard-issue weapon for troops posted along the Line of Control and Line of Actual Control. The rifle is built for reliability in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations. Indo-Russian venture backed by army expertise Formed in 2019 under an intergovernmental agreement, IRRPL is a joint venture between Russian firms Rosoboronexport and Concern Kalashnikov, and Indian public-sector companies AWEIL and MIL. The company is led by a team of Indian Army officers and operates from an 8.5-acre site in Amethi. Major Gen Sharma described the venture as the 'younger brother of BrahMos', highlighting its strategic value. High precision manufacturing and future scale Each AK-203 rifle goes through 120 manufacturing processes and comprises about 50 components and 180 sub-parts. The rifle has a service life of 15,000 rounds. Already, 60 critical parts have been indigenised, with components sourced from Indian vendors and assembled at the Amethi facility. IRRPL aims to manufacture 150,000 rifles annually post full indigenisation, eventually reaching a production rate of 600 rifles per day — approximately one rifle every 100 seconds.
