Free ‘RELA' haircut service unlikely attraction at Perak PMR 2025
The free haircut service at the Home Ministry (KDN) booth in Lumut Waterfront here is being offered to the first 40 visitors daily throughout the three-day event, Perak Rela director Razib Buhaini said, adding that the department always prioritised service to the public, no matter what the situation.
'This way, RELA can deliver its service... with a bit of help from us, it might help reduce costs for families and those who have financial difficulty in getting a haircut,' he told Bernama today, adding that haircuts these days cost between RM10 to RM15 per head.
He noted that the quality was on par with what existing barbers offered as the RELA members giving the haircuts are skilled barbers themselves.
'Those providing the haircuts all have the necessary barber skills.... our service also depends on requests of styles, but if there are those asking for over extreme styles, we don't do it. At least we can keep your hair neat,' he said, pointing out that the haircuts were only for men.
A RELA member who was providing haircuts, Muhamad Zulhafiz Kamis, 34, said he signed up with RELA in 2016 with his barber skills.
He learned the craft by himself and now he was able to use it on a part time basis to help rural communities, especially those in his village in Beruas.
'My village is in a rural area, so barbers are quite far so I'm the one who provides the service,' he said, adding that he believed that RELA members needed to have a neat presentation to function as a bridge between the government and the public.
'It started out as my hobby when I joined RELA, we understand being presentable is important as we are an intermediary between the people and the government,' he said.
The Perak PMR 2025 is from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, and ends on 6 pm on Sunday. Government service booths operate from 9 am to 6 pm throughout the three-day event.

Ex-foundation CEO learned of Najib's AmBank accounts from media reports
FORMER Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M) CEO Ung Su Ling only learned from media reports that the AmBank accounts receiving RM42 million belonged to former Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak. As reported by an online portal today, Ung told the High Court that she was unaware that the funds came from SRC International Sdn Bhd when instructed by Najib's then principal private secretary the late Azlin Alias to transfer them via Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd (IPSB). The funds were deposited into two AmBank accounts ending in 880 and 906, between late 2014 and early 2015. Ung confirmed arranging three transfers from IPSB — RM27 million, RM5 million and RM10 million — but said she had no additional information about the money. 'At the material time, I was not aware of the source of these funds, nor was I informed of the same by Azlin. I can attest that these funds did not originate from nor belong to YR1M. 'However, based on subsequent media reports and the decision of the SRC International case, I understand that these funds, which were transferred to IPSB, originated from SRC,' she said during examination-in-chief. Ung acted on Azlin's instructions to transfer the funds to the specified bank accounts without knowing who owned them. She was testifying as the first witness for the plaintiffs in SRC International and its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd's lawsuit against Najib to recover RM42 million allegedly misappropriated from SRC International 's accounts. When asked about the link between YR1M and IPSB, Ung explained that YR1M supported IPSB financially through grants and funding for community programmes in line with the 1Malaysia initiative. During cross-examination by defence lawyer Farhan Shafee, she said she never felt it necessary to seek further details about the funds. In August 2022, Najib was found guilty on seven counts of abuse of power, money laundering, and criminal breach of trust involving SRC 1Malaysia's funds. His initial sentence of 12 years in prison and a RM210 million fine was later reduced to six years and RM50 million through a royal pardon. That man, Koh Teck Peng, is now the founder and group principal of an accounting firm in Johor Bahru . How tough were those days? There was no bank transfer back then, Koh recalls. Every month, I'd walk to UMBC Bank – now RHB – queue up, and hand my paper cheque to the counter lady with a smile, saying this is my allowance.' The bank teller would stamp it, count out the cash, and hand it over. That was my monthly ritual.
