British man who was ‘happiest he had been' since wife's death dies on holiday
Craig Bloomer, 54, was visiting the Greek island of Corfu for a family holiday with his two daughters, and their partners and children.
Craig, from Wolverhampton, died after a moped accident near the village of Agios Mattheos on July 26. He was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead, BirminghamLive reported. His body was flown back to England on August 6.
His family said the 'much-loved grandad' was the 'happiest' he had been since his wife Jane, 53, died of cancer two years ago.
His eldest, Rebecca, 32, said: 'Our dad's loss has left a massive hole in our lives.'
Craig ran The Cafe in the Low Hill area of Wolverhampton, alongside his two daughters.
Rebecca added: 'We lost our mum two years ago to cancer. Since then, he has been a bit down in the dumps.
'On holiday, it was the happiest I'd ever seen him, he had a new girlfriend. He was lovely and a proper family man. He liked motorbikes, old cars, going to the pub, snooker, drawing, he was really good at art. More Trending
'We own a cafe business which my dad started running after my mum died. The amount of tributes we've had off people for dad, saying how lovely he was and what a character he was.
'He was like marmite, you either loved him or hated him – and most people loved him.'
Craig's family has created a GoFundMe page to help with costs following his unexpected death – which has raised over £3,000 so far.
His death comes just days after another British tourist was found dead in a Greek hotel's swimming pool.

Among those dishing out deals is Labour-run Rotherham Council — which gives asylum seekers access to the Rothercard, aimed at helping low-earning families with bills. Around 500 in asylum accommodation in the South Yorkshire town are believed to be eligible. At Rother Valley Country Park's three lakes they get a 30 per cent discount, slashing the cost of a 90-minute double-handed dinghy or sailing boat rental from £20.70 to £14.80. A single-handed dinghy is £12.70, a third down from £16.40. The park also offers discounted watersports including windsurfing. The authority, where one in six live in poverty, raised council tax by three per cent this year. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: 'It's shocking that yet another Labour Council has been offering illegal immigrants freebies – this time offering discounts for water sports and boat hires. 'You could not make it up. Hard-working Brits are subsidising perks for illegal immigrants crossing the Channel, while at the same time seeing local services cut. 'This has got to stop. The British people have had enough. 'While everyone else has their benefits cut, asylum seekers are being pampered with perks at taxpayers' expense.' Nationwide, we can reveal an e-scooter firm offers boat migrants a 50 per cent discount — while only giving Army veterans, NHS nurses and firefighters a fifth off. He warned the UK must address 'pull factors' including freebies, luxury accommodation and easy access to black market work on Just Eat or Deliveroo. The Home Office operates around 210 migrant hotels at a cost of more than £3billion a year. The Government has pledged to close them all by 2029 — but has opened new hotels this year. Rotherham Borough Council said: 'The Rothercard scheme offers support to all residents on low incomes. We would not generally expect asylum seekers to be accessing sports facilities like Rother Valley Country Park. 'Rothercard also helps with the costs of services like pest control and waste disposal, which we would want to ensure were available to everyone who lives here.' Time Out has ranked Turkey as the eighth most popular destination for Brits, just behind favourites like Spain, France, and Greece, with visitor numbers on the rise each year. However, one Welsh TikToker, known as @northwalesboii, has a blunt message for those considering Turkey for their next jaunt: "Don't bother". He took to social media to share his disappointment after his summer trip to Turkey was marred by high costs. In his video, he lamented the steep prices, advising would-be travellers that they'll need to bring "a lot of money" if they want to enjoy their Turkish holiday. While he didn't mention where in Turkey he stayed, the country boasts renowned spots such as Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and coastal gems like Marmaris. The disgruntled tourist warned: "Just to let you know, if you're coming on holiday to Turkey, bring a lot of money. You will spend it. Everything has gone up," reports the Mirror. "It never used to be so expensive; it used to be so dirt cheap to come here. To eat out, to drink no more. It is f***ing expensive." Views were split amongst those responding to the footage. Some agreed that costs had certainly escalated, with many people sharing tales from their recent getaways of being stung 400 Turkish Lira for a pint, which works out at approximately £7.30. One person observed: "I go three times a year, and you are correct, it's gotten expensive. It will go up again. Next year, we're looking at different places." However, others insisted that their most recent visits remained "cheaper than the UK". A holidaymaker argued: "Don't know what part you went to. We have just got back from Antalya, had a great time, and it was cheaper than the UK. ". Another added: "I don't know where you guys are going, but it's really cheap in Turkey. I do a lot of shopping and the food is cheap as well. ". Come 2024, visitors were cautioning that runaway price rises could turn Turkey into a "ghost town" within a few years, with one individual bemoaning that holiday destinations were "becoming like London prices." He stated at the time: "I'm sat in this place now - for a burger it's £12. For a water it's £2 - it's becoming like London prices. "My sister, and her little family, said they're not going to come back again. ""I've seen some posts on here where people are saying, give it a few more years, and Turkey's going to be dead."

The family can be seen posing together in charming photos and enjoying the local wildlife, with kangaroos and snakes making appearances in the pictures. Posting on The Strawbridge Family account, they captioned it: "Thank you Australia for the magical memories. More to come on our adventures.. but we had to share some of our favourite pictures. "We have hugged, laughed and swapped stories with so many.. it's really been truly amazing. Thank you for the love. Until the next time!" Escape to the Chateau followed the family's journey as they purchased and renovated the 19th-century Château de la Motte-Husson, in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France. The show first aired on Channel 4 in 2016 and boasted an impressive 50 episodes across nine series before it concluded in December 2022. Explaining their decision to wrap up the show, the couple told HELLO! in 2023: "It was two years ago that we decided to end the Escape to the Chateau series. "We made the decision because the kids are growing older, and all the parallel activity was not sustainable at this level. We are doers and we are never going to stop completely, but we're also protecting them. "Arthur is starting senior school and the pressure on our little ones is phenomenal. When he goes there, people may have heard that his parents have done stuff on television." Angel added: "Up until this year, we were not on French television at our request because while we are the British family that bought the Chateau in the village, we are very much completely normal."
